Amazing service, vibe and the views from second floor.
Also, such a great creamy seafood soup in garlic bread, oh my god, it’s a must!

The clam chowder was very good and drinks strong if that is what you want. But the entrees were pretty basic and cost was pretty high.

Excellent restaurant, been going there for years every opportunity I get. The crab tower appetizer is so delicious!

One of the finest place to eat.
I would definitely like to go here multiple times and would also recommend others.

The Grotto is a Monterey Classic. Great service, fresh, fantastic seafood & a view as a bonus.

We had the Dungeness crab.
It was done just right and crab is fleshy. Whole crab was US$59

Clam chowder was a little thick but taste was good.

First time eating artichoke whole. Server Bryan C.patiently taught us how to eat the artichoke ̈

Clam Chowder with the Bread Bowl. We noticed they won back to back Awards for Best Clam Chowder and it definitely lived up to the hype! It’s very delicious especially with the bread bowl. They serve enough for 2 to share. For a couple extra bucks, you can upgrade to their Garlic Butter Toasted Bread Bowl.

Another great combination plate is their HOUSE SPECIAL: Grilled Combination Platter. You’ll get a mix of Sand dabs, salmon, prawns, and scallop served with a lemon caper beurre blanc sauce, served with sauteed organic vegetables and toasted Israeli couscous.

Lots of great desserts to try too!

Like an old school, California seafood restaurant on the wharf with water views. Had their famous clam chowder, tasty white fish, and an abalone entree. All that we ate were good.

Absolutely amazing place to eat. Our host went above and beyond to find us a window seat overlooking the water. They get a 10

We're locals and 9 out if 10 times we want to go celebrate anything, this is out go to place.
Good food, great views, excellent service.
We were in this week and got to be seated in a place with the best view of the harbor, which is always a bonus.
Our server Jerry was the best waiter we'd had to date.
He was super friendly as well as attentive.
I believe he may also be psychic because a couple times he brought out things that I was just going to ask for.
Good sense of humor, too.
It made the experience that much more enjoyable.

The managers akso always come around and ask how everything is and or was, which is a nice touch.
We always just have rave things to tell them.
We will of course be back very soon.

Update:
I visited again in April of '23 and was going to purchase a case to bring home. Sad to say they no longer have their chowder by the can or case anymore.
Real bummer.

It was a very special time and dinner was fantastic especially the clam chowder. The drinks were delicious and the atmosphere amazing. The view outside to the water was awesome. Service was exceptional.

If you are looking for an old school place, it's definitely the place where you should go. Food was good and very traditional. The negative aspect is regarding their children policy: we didn't feel welcome at all because we have children: no thank you and good by at the end by the main host who tried to discourage us by asking a tricky question: "  how many high chair or booster do you need?  " when there is a sign in front of the restaurant that specially mention no high chair no booster no stroller and no crying kids.we should have skipped it because we felt observed and judged by the staff all the time which was very stressful even if our kids stayed seated and quiet… we won't recommend it specially when you are a family.

From the owner out front greeting everyone with a big smile to staff inside that are detail and service oriented, ensuring every meal there is EXCELLENT! I have never had anything I didn't like on the menu.and trust me, if you don't, I can guarantee they will make it right.
Brining my wife a rose every time we have a date night there is a nice touch. I have NEVER even had a mediocre experience there. Same high level of service every time, no matter what waiter/waitress serves your table. That shows its trained and expected and that the staff has pride in their workplace. Rare these days. Its a must see/ eat if your in the Monterey area.

Nothing new here-try the chowder! But only if you want to lick the bowl clean. It’s embarrassing, but understandable. The full restaurant is an incredible experience-really fine dining. Then the fish house side is super casual and great to pop in. They take care of you at either place!

Pretty touristy. Food was a to-go order. Quite good but a mismatch between promised pickup time and actual time. I will go again.

Owner must hate children. Food was fine but they are very unfriendly towards children for one reason or another. For being such a "fancy" restaurant, it was so much fun swatting away flies and bugs while trying to eat our food. Restaurant should focus on fixing their bug problem instead of discriminating against kids.

Very nice restaurant. Service was excellent. It is pricey but it is a seafood restaurant on the pier.
