Old Monterey Café reviews
15Always a solid choice for a classic Americana quality breakfast on Alvarado. The food is great, portions are large. The pancakes take up the whole plate. I had to cut back to a short stack of 2 if I wanted fried potatoes too.
It was good, very busy. Service was very slow. Continuous reminders of what we ordered: missing the sides, forgot the drinks, delivered toast, asked for no toast, missing salt and pepper, etc.
Went there for brunch today. Service was friendly but slow. I don't understand the high rating. Unfortunately, my Joe scramble was super dry and very bland. It took almost 30 minutes for our food to arrive. My husband said is classic Benedict was fine and my son's patty melt was tasty.
Enjoyed breakfast here on Christmas morning. The staff was friendly and the food was hearty…good sized portions and reasonable prices. They have the best home fried potatoes.
Great food at great prices, the staff was incredibly nice and the service was fantastic! This is one of the best breakfast places in Monterey. I highly recommend this to anyone!
We've been coming here for over 25 years. The service, staff and food is always like being welcomed home.
We've been two days in a row. Services seems inconsistent; it was excellent yesterday 11/23 but today 11/24 we didn't couldn't even get a coffee refill even after asking for one. The food is delicious, but my wife and I can never eat two whole entrées so se like to split plates, it would have been nice if the waitress had told us the first day we were there that it would have been cheaper to split a plate & pay $2 than to get two half plates and have a $1 removed from each plate.
The eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly and so were the hash browns. The pancakes on the other hand felt like eating raw pizza dough! Just made me sick. Also the juices were way overpriced for the sizes you get. Not the same as it used to be.
The staff attitude could be better as well…very short and borderline rude!
Busy busy place. Came in Sunday for breakfast and it was packed. Good value for the price.
Big portions, quite bigger than your chain breakfast place! Food was great, would come back!
Small place but the food was very good and came out quick. We had a large party with 2 young kids. They were very accommodating and got us seated very quickly even though they were nearly at capacity.
Good breakfast. Pretty busy. Evidently lots of others like breakfast there, too. A little waiting for food, but not bad.
Sunday breakfast. Last meal before heading back to SF. I got the steak and eggs, while my boyfriend got the Portlander omelet. We also shared a waffle with strawberries. I was happy with my meal. They cooked it how I wanted it: eggs over medium and medium steak. My boyfriend said nothing was seasoned properly, but I assumed they do that so their guests can season the food how they want since they leave salt and pepper on the table. We still ended up enjoying our food. Really good portion. One thing I suggest improving, though, is the coffee. Too diluted. But other than that, no complaints.
Very rushed and impersonal. Never offered water without asking. Please offer some vegan options.
I asked which of their breads do and don’t have dairy due to allergy restrictions and was told she “didn’t know because they don’t make it here. ” I have NEVER in my life been told that at a restaurant. Definitely would not recommend this place if you have literally any type of dietary restriction or questions — also little to no vegan options in general
