Gym Orangetheory Fitness reviews
16The actual gym is pretty average, but the smell of the building is terrible. It smells awful (like sour bananas or eggs and more than likely mold). The building is also extremely warm in certain spots of the floor. I have literally never been in a OT class where I was so hot I felt like I couldn’t complete the workout. I pressed through of course, but it was not a good experience. Between the warm temperatures of the room and the HORRIBLE smell I more than likely won’t return. The need for a new building should be top priority. The building is certainly not up to code, I can’t imagine what I was breathing in while working out, smh. (customer service was OK, nothing over the top or above and beyond, but certainly not bad either) The instructor was pretty good as well.
As with most OTF negative reviews, most of the critique is about the policies for lateness and canceling and not the workout. So, if you are a card-carrying OTF cult member and have mastered the schedule and class process, OTF Pasadena holds its own with all other studios.
This will be my home studio for a few months while I have a work project in Southern California, so I was glad to find one so close to where I'm staying. Cara and Leslie are great coaches and I expect the rest are as well. There is plenty of street parking around the studio and the staff is helpful.
As far as the studio layout it is a long, narrow gym, so Lift 45s can be a little tight. It is not a big deal, just be prepared to get cozy and be willing to shift around to where there is open space.
First of all, this location has way more members signed up than class spots that they have to offer. There are always super long wait lists (sometimes 15-20 people) for the classes. You can put yourself on a waitlist and sometimes you’ll get into the class and other times not. It makes it extremely hard to plan your day not knowing if you’ll actually get to workout for the time you are waitlisted for. It’s not uncommon to be placed on a waitlist and get a notification an hour or two before class that I’m now accepted into the class.
The workouts are ok. Nothing special. They can become a bit monotonous. Same with the instructors. I didn’t find any particularly motivating or outstanding. They are more just following a pre-programmed workout that was handed to them. Members are just fixated on their splat points and going hardcore, all out with very little attention paid to proper form.
Lastly, BEWARE of the contract that you are signing up for. This place has been designed to lock you in, get your money, and make it difficult for you to quit. Making money is their main focus rather than actually helping you achieve your health and fitness goals. I decided to come here to return to exercise after surgery. After notifying multiple instructors of my physical limitations (nothing high-impact, no sit-ups, no planks), most gave me very little modifications. After one week of workouts, I decided that this place was not a good fit for me. They wouldn’t let me out of the contract. I offered to pay for the individual classes I had taken. Still nope. They went ahead and charged me for 2 months because even when you want to cancel they make you pay for another month. There was no exception for my medical/physical needs even with a doctors note. Pretty disappointing. Very little regard for members’ physical well-being. Don’t recommend coming here.
Greeters were nice and professional. Kara the instructor was awesome, I broke 100 for the first time.
What a refreshing experience! I was greeted with smiles from the front desk team when I arrived and the coach, Cara, made a point to personally introduce herself to me. Cara was exceptional as she checked in with everyone in the room for encouragement and made the second day of hell week a lot of fun! She truly cared about the work out the members were getting and we all felt it. Thank you!
So i've been debating signing up for OTF for a while and finally decided to mainly due to the fact that I can keep my workout regime even when I travel. The folks at OTF were awesome ensuring that my first COMPLIMENTARY:) session went flawlessly and I was completely comfortable with the studio and the workout. I honestly felt like family and am so happy I finally decided to sign up. I've already used my OTF on the road already and LOVED IT! Thank you to the awesome OTF Pasadena team!
Compact, effective workouts. Short on time but want to get a great workout in? This is the place for you. I felt challenged while completing all the stations and the coaches are very motivating.
Love knowing that I’ll always get a great workout when I come here. The staff and coaches are very friendly and welcoming at OTF Pasadena which makes you want to keep coming back. The heart monitors and coaches do a great job of keeping you motivated. I actually look forward to my workouts and pushing my fitness limits here at OTF Pasadena!
Great workouts, instructors and enough space to get my workout in without feeling super crowded.
I love OTF, everyone who works there is amazing. I love that I don't have to plan my workout. I've been going for 2 years and highly recommend it.
OTF is a fabulous workout. The coaches and staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Each class is different but always a great workout.
Loved the atmosphere of this place. Really like how welcomed I felt on my first class. The coach was motivating and made sure I was comfortable with constant check ins since it was my first class. I signed up right after class for a membership and now have 4 classes booked. I can’t wait to go back!
This place has been a life saver. I used to struggle getting out the door and getting to the gym. Now I know over an hour long class I’ll get a great workout with great coaches. I really enjoy going most days especially Tuesday and Thursday nights with Cara and Karen. It really feels like family when you go and get healthy and push each other. Now 3 of my friends have joined who are also busy dads who have small businesses and could never find time to work out.
Karen has been my Coach since day one pushes me every class and never give up on me. Love this place and community
Love orange theory and the staff.if you visit different studios you will see the difference in layouts /space. I do not like the layout of this studio it feels cramped in the workout area / run and row area it feels like a narrow rectangle but I get that it's the best that fits in that floor plan. It doesn't prevent me from going because I love the classes and staff but just wanted to point out the layout.
The coaches are great and make the workouts fun. By scheduling classes OTF keeps me accountable to actually going to the gym which was a major problem with other gym memberships since I’d tell myself I’d go and when it came time to go I’d make excuses for myself.
