Nice campground. Lots of families and groups. I do wish the campsites are more private

Close to SF and pt Reyes. Dog friendly. Some middle campsites have no privacy, others are great. Regardless beautiful redwoods!

It's almost impossible to get summer camping spots here at Orchard Hill Loop campground. This site is farther away from Sir Francis Drake (than Creekside Loop), so it is away from traffic noise at night.
The loop is a bit confusing to follow as it is on a one-way. If your site is near 30 or 29 (at the start of the loop), you need to drive all the way around the entire loop to exit the campground downhill to Cross Marin Trail.
Last 2 years, we noticed non-camping type folks are coming here to camp and not following (or not knowing) the informal rule of being courteous campers to share the campground. These campsites are very close to each other at SPT and if you snore loudly at night, adjacent campers won't get any sleep at night.
No firewoods for sale. Must bring in your own.

There are several water spigot near campsites. Racoons and chipmunks are notorious here. You can't leave food unattended for 10 seconds. If you look away from your bag of food on the table or next to the tent, it will be quickly grabbed or rummaged through. Always lock food in a container with a latch or plan to lose them all. Too many to list the mistakes SPT’s inexperienced campers make. In 2022, the raccoon situation has gotten better at Orchard Hill Loop.

No hammock is allowed as well as all other state parks in CA.
The most campsites have 2-car parking spaces. If your vehicle is longer than 18', you must make a reservation that's designed for a trailer or camper vans. A very long trailer is difficult to drive through the circular narrow loop which is a one way road to travel.

Five stars for the park. It’s California State Parks that needs resources.
