Orfila Vineyards and Winery, Escondido CA

This was my second time at this particular winery. I was drawn back by the beautiful views which are very impressive. My friend and I (two teachers needed to unwind on a Friday night) arrived around 6: 15PM. The lady at the counter was extremely kind and helped us find a wine we both liked, as we informed her we wanted to split a bottle. She told us they stop pouring at 6: 30 which we understood as they close at 7PM. We were enjoying our wine and views and a younger male came out to rudely tell everyone to leave because they were closing (it was 7 at this point). We both had to slam our glasses that were still pretty full. We wanted to use the bathroom before we left and asked a blonde worker who was clearing tables if the bathrooms were still open. She rudely told us “they should be” and informed us where they were. We asked if we could set our wine glasses down and she told us to go put them in a bin on the other side of the tent. When we couldn’t find the bin, she seemed annoyed and came up to us and took our glasses. We used the restroom and got to our car where we decided to sit for a bit to make sure we were okay to drive after having to slam our last glass (we were not drunk, just wanted to be extra cautious before driving) until the cars that were still in the parking area left (assuming these were the last of the last of the employees). The same man that was kicking people out at 7 drove past us and seemed to say something that we couldn’t hear. We noticed there were still many cars in the lot so we thought we still had some time to sit in our car. After a bit, a car drove back up the drive and shined its lights right into our car. We figured this was our cue to leave and started to drive away. The guy rolled down his window and said to us EXTREMELY passive-aggressively “typically when we tell you to leave, that means you need to leave because we are locking the gates. ” We told him we hadn’t heard what he said when he drove past us and were waiting to leave until we saw the rest of the cars leave. He rudely said “well are you guys okay to drive like do I need to order you guys an Uber or something? ! ” We told him no, we were just trying to be extra cautious and would leave right then. It was rather upsetting that we were treated so poorly after trying to do the right thing and make sure we were giving ourselves some time before driving home. He treated us as though we had broken some law or rule when all we were doing was sitting in our car. It’s unfortunate that I have to leave this kind of review as I have family visiting next week and was planning to bring them here. Not after this experience. I will be looking elsewhere.

Signs posted says do not back in half the cars here back in and the management does nothing about it sign post it says do not bringing your own food let me express my displeasure with those if you bring your own food. Like the lady today who brings in this big bag from California pizza kitchen and the manager does nothing about it. Are used to love this place now it sucks because there are no standards and people are not held accountable this manager is an idiot!

Be forewarned you can’t sit anywhere near the music or the food if you bring a kid. You get relegated to the ‘park’ that was a ton of bugs on really beat up park benches. Then you have to hoof it to the other side of the property to get to the food truck it was really disappointing and we wouldn’t have come if we had known it was like this.: (

The grounds are lovely. The good ends there. The wines are ok, but the customer service is what ensures I will never return. When my fourth tasting pour was half what the others were, I pointed it out. I was then schooled on where the pour is supposed to be, and told they had been very generous with me. Why all of a sudden was this "generosity" taken away? Just be consistent with your pours, and don't be a jerk when your customer points out that they feel slighted.

This winery provides vineyard view as well as tasting place conjunction with dining area outside facing very beautiful view. Wine is reasonable price for tasting and very tasty.

Beautiful ambiance and wine is good BUT horrific customer service.
Extremely rude staff. This has happened on several occasions and it’s so pervasive that we cancelled our membership in spite of liking the wine and facilities.

I loved the atmosphere, very familiar, like going on a picnic even with small children, as a couple or even alone. I really enjoyed the tasting with the little music

I thought that place was very very lovely beautiful grounds and the Rosie wine was out of this world I loved it. Could have done without the dogs but all in all it was a nice experience. But I really think you should had a cheese board with crackers and things like that I think that would have said it off so much better but thank you it was a great experience and it was my first time there Debbie

Great atmosphere & Adam is very helpful. Get the wine slushie mixed 1/2 and 1/2 and enjoy different wines while relaxing outside by the vineyard. There was live music on our visit and it was wonderful.

It's a pretty venue, lots of grass and areas to sit enjoy music or take photos of the vineyard. The wine was a bit overpriced for a glass. 2 stars because I had a very unprofessional experience. Place closes at 7pm on Sunday. I had gotten to my car checked some messages and headed out around 7: 20pm to leave only to find that the gate was padlocked and I was trapped inside the property. Not one person had thought maybe it would be a good idea to circle to property prior to check if anyone was still on the site or leave a number at the gate to call to get the gate opened if still on the property. There was another guy in the same situation, and he circled the property several times, knocking on the doors to try to find someone to help with no help at all. I was minutes away from calling the cops to unlock the property. Luckily the grounds keeper showed up and opened the gate, but he was extremely rude, yelling at us and at the other guy for driving around trying to find a way out. I'm pretty sure he was under some kind of influence by the way he was yelling with slurred speech and communicating to us. It was an awful experience, and I'll consider going elsewhere.

This is the best winery/tasting room in San Diego county! No need to go all the way up to Temecula.

Idk why the children's area gets a bunch of hate, it's really nice.

Honestly build a jungle gym and you'll make the investiment back from happy parents.

The over 21 policy for the front with the views is a joke.you can have dogs barking, pissin and taking a dump.but no kids

Great vineyard with a fantastic view. My wife and I loved the wine and that they had little bites to eat available. They also had samplers if you want to try a lot of wine!

View is great and it has plenty of seating.

Love this local winery. Great wines fund stuff and beautiful views of San Pasqual valley. The wine club is amazing for those local.

Was really impressed by the interior display of wine haha! I would go to this winery if you’re looking for a bit more of a laid back experience.

2nd time visiting this winery (guest invitation by a member). Enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and views of the vineyards and surrounding mountains, especially with the absence of loud music (during my 1st visit). Good selection of wines; however, they didn't have any white wines to taste or order by the stem or bottle today. Will have to try them again in the near future.

Great place to hang out. They have music on weekends. Membership is a good option if you want to come in regularly and with friends.
