Japanese Restaurant OTOTO reviews
12Absolutely loved this restaurant. Think of it like Japanese tapas. Each dish was so flavorful and the portions are generous, so you definitely get your money's worth. The space is intimate, so not the best for groups. But perfect for date night or dinner with a friend! I'll definitely be back.
Love this place! Excellent and fun sake selection, wonderful food, knowledgeable and nice service as well. It’s small, don’t try to come with more than 3 or 4 people unless you book ahead - they have a little room where you can have like 6-8 people. I love coming here and it just feels like a really special place. I’m glad it’s near me! Sorry I didn’t take any photos but most recently we had: amazing eggplant tempura (I do not even like eggplant), delicious otoro sashimi, the best fish and chips ever, and the always enjoyable & refreshing Shaki salad. I always try different sakes by the glass and they are so nice and helpful with ordering.
The soft shell shrimp was amazing but the rest was average and pricey for the portion sizes. The staff was great. There is no host to greet you, so understanding the seating process is confusing but we asked the bartender who told us to wait for the wait staff to come over. There was a Dodgers game so virtually nowhere to park. I paid $11 to valet but my friend said that she'd paid $30 on her previous visit, so it varies. Get there early or prepare to wait since the place is small but doesn't take reservations. It opens at 5pm.
A small and quaint restaurant, sake bar with amazing food to pair. Highly recommend the cabbage salad and soft shell shrimp. Cheese and scallion okonomiyaki has flavors bursting in every bite. Server was accommodating and atmosphere was warm. Plum sake was delectable, too. A go to spot for date night and large groups to share many dishes!
Amazing sake collection, and unique Japanese food offerings. Definitely will be a restaurant customer and if you're reading this wondering if you should come here, do it! Wait can be a little long though as the space is smaller.
The clerk looks super happy
He was singing and dancing at the bar
It made us very happy to watch it
We loved every dish!
The fried pork cutlet sandwich is delicious!
A must-try Okonomiyaki
One bite after another, I really can't stop
That sauce is super appetizing
The outer skin of fried chicken is specially marinated
But the chicken inside is so juicy
Received unanimous praise from us

karaage $13
chicken katsu sando $13
okonomiyaki $14
buta shumai $13
Pricey! But great sake collection! All dishes were delicious and well prepared. Gets crowded but it seems like a place people just stop over so the tables get turned over quickly. Staff was efficient but a bit grumpy. The sweet potato used the best type of sweet potato!
UPDATE
Staff are really nice and personable the last few times I came. The sashimi is a bit fishy. No dessert this time. Found the karage and the tempura slightly salty this time around but maybe I'd feel less so if I was drinking.
My third visit tonight. Excellent service by Ryan and his team. Their dishes are fantastic. Try the Japanese sweet jams.amazing taste. And of course, a great variety of sake. Will be back
Had a wonderful birthday meal with a party of 7. Had wonderful service and the sake recommendations were excellent for newbies like us! Definitely worth the reservation
Incredible sake selection, delicious food, and great ambience! Perfect for a night out with friends or a casual date night.
[Food] I had the 1) Uni Toast: hokkaido uni, beef tataki, fresh wasabi, and shiso on milk bread. Delicious and perfectly balanced.
2) the Yakisoba: pan-fried noodles, pork belly, cabbage, tokyo negi, and shiitake mushrooms. This was basically an elevated version of a dish I grew up eating, so it was very nostalgic for me
3) the Kara-age: japanese fried chicken, curry mayo, yuzu daikon. I love fried chicken in all shapes and sizes, and this was easily one of the best I’ve had. The chicken was perfectly fried and seasoned; the curry mayo is incredible, and I couldn’t get enough of the daikon radishes (great for cutting through the fried chicken, but also extra tasty just on their own.)
[Drinks] I first got a glass of the Masumi ‘arabashiri’ junmai ginjo (“freshly pressed style, zingy and bright”) and ended the night with a glass of the Gokyo ‘arabashiri’ junmai nama genshub (“super lively, zesty, fizzy pineapple sode, umami to ground it all”). Both sakes were delicious, and the servers were very knowledgeable and helpful when I was ordering.
Can’t wait to come back and try more!
Incredible saki menu and very gracious staff who are all excited to explain what the menu doesn’t. One of my best experiences in LA! And omg the food portions are bigger than you think. We stuffed ourselves but it was all delicious so keep ordering.
