I enjoyed the mixed poke bowl. Husband had the spicy tuna handroll and the balboa roll. EXCELLENT

The sushi is hit or miss. Some days it's just OK and others it's second to none, fresh and fantastic. Prices have come up over the years, but this is one of the best fast-sushi options in Clairemont. They regularly have Uni, and other fatty belly cuts of salmon and yellowtail which other restaurants don't have.

Their spider hand roll is also one of my favorite snacks.

My family and I went for dinner. Oh my! I loved the korean style bbq short ribs! And the teriyaki chicken is very good also. The prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere felt cozy. I liked the place -so did my wife! Parking is not bad, but since there are plenty other establishments, at moments it's not exactly abundant.

Good:
Nice environment; beautiful and cozy decorations.
Bad:
1. Gave me the wrong dish.
2. The chicken was way too salty.
3. Very slow even when they were not busy.

The food and the sushi is great, the service is ok, but they are slowwwww.careful when you order online, they tend to take about 1 hour to get your order ready.

Amazing service from Diana M. She was amazing and the sushi was the best I’ve had. They made a mistake and brought us two more rolls and told them we could take them and did not charge us. Hands down the best place! I recommend you give this place a try!

Ototo Sushi is one of my favorite sushi places ever! I go there a couple of times a month and always enjoy whatever I try. The "Balboa" is one of my favorite specialty rolls, I always order an eel roll because it's my personal favorite, and their California roll is always a good one to introduce to new sushi friends. The front outdoor patio is spacious and well-appointed, indoor seating is pretty open as well, parking in the shopping center parking lot is always plentiful, and service is always efficient and friendly. Although they don't have a beverage option that I really like, the diverse sushi menu more than makes up for it!

What happened Ototo? It used to be great. They were closing in 45 minutes and the staff appeared to be frantically rushing to get out. Food was poor quality. Miso was cold, iced tea was flavorless, worst of all, the rolls were all imitation crab and little more. This was our SD go to, disappointed.

The food is good but the service is terrible. They bring the check without asking, kinda rushing you out. Also some of the waiters are very rude.

I ordered a poke bowl, and I was charged $16, so I thought it would be a decently sized bowl. What came out was an appetizer-sized bow of poke and I’m disappointed.

The food is good and the space is nice, but the service is pretty bad, especially given the high standard of Japanese service. The dirty plates from the apps set on the table until we left. The water glasses were only refilled after chasing down staff and asking repeatedly. The staff are friendly and engaging. But they seem not to be aware of their duty to do more than bring your food. We had to ask two people for plates and ramekins for soy sauce and it still took ages. I really want to like this place based on the people and food but the level of customer service is really surprisingly bad given how good and nice the rest of the experience is. I doubt I’ll be back.

Ordered few dishes they were all fall down to the range of ok. No Wasabi or ginger get served you have to request. Quality of Sashmi is ok too

Great service and lively atmosphere. Too bad everything was drowned in eel sauce and mayonnaise. I respect the attempt at "fusion" but japanese food shines on its own.

I use to love this place… and I would’ve given it 5 stars but now, they ignore your allergy list, food is no longer fresh like it use to be. HORRIBLE.

This is the best sushi place is town. The rolls were so well made and fresh while the prices were so reasonable. Please give this place a try. 10/10.

Came here for the first time and got two rolls. Loved one of them (Picasso) and the other was so/so (Bruce lee). Overall, super solid sushi place though, and pick up was very fast!

Chef’s special sashimi is outstanding. Ramen is decent. Hamachi Kama is a gem and delicious. Great dining place while charging the car

I had the Cabo roll with a side of eel sauce because i prefer sweeter rolls, SO GOOD. The lemon with sweet sauce was so good and i found out i love cilantro on sushi. Very zesty roll, id recommend getting some eel sauce

Food here is always great! The last two visits, service is almost non existent. Order was wrong, we had to get our own chop sticks, napkins ect. No salad dressing or soy sauce. Painfully slow. Get it to go and eat at home!

I normally have no problem giving places a 5 star because food is the most important part of my experience at restaurants but I gave Ototo sushi a 3 star because the service has been consistently disappointing. This last order I placed with them was a carry-out order, I came about 10 minutes early and they told me, "You're way too early, come back in 30 minutes. " I waited 45 minutes and went in to get my food and they said, "Hold on, 5 more minutes. " I waited an extra 20 minutes, watching them make my food before my eyes. They either forgot about my order, or pushed it behind a bunch of other orders.

All in all, I probably won't be eating here for a while.
