Italian Restaurant Palio reviews
17Could not be more pleased with this restaurant. At a conference in town and Palio was a very comfortable atmosphere, with personable staff who not only took the time for our group but made the entire experience more enjoyable. Our server even sang and had a great voice! The food was fantastic. The next day we were all talking about how wonderful the food and experience was and would gladly go back again, tempted even for the following night. When I am back in SF, you can bet I will be eating at Palio!
I had not been back since the pandemic started and going back today with a group for lunch was terrific! The food choices are excellent, the flavors fresh and delicious, and the staff is outstanding. Highly recommended!
Fun service, good food, and tasty drinks. I really liked the pizza and the fettuccini. The atmosphere is nice and pleasing as well, I could come back and try a few more things on the menu. I also really liked the spumoni and the tiramisu!
The wait staff was great. The Caesar salad was good as was the Orecchiette pasta. The secondi, a grill New York strip was totally inedible. It looked beautifully grilled to a medium rare, seasoned well, but it was really that bad. The first bite was chewy and then each subsequent bite was just as chewy. I had to spit out a bite of it because I was afraid it might not go down without complications. I 'd never ever had such a bad piece of meat. My two other dining companions had the same awfulness. I had a bite of a friend's chicken with mushrooms, while tasty, it was dry. The tirimitsu was ok. It was not too cakey, or too wet. It wasn't too sweet, It was just too bland. It did not stand out. Forgettable.
I was there for a conference dinner, and I ordered the strip steak.
OMG!
The meat is so tough that I had a hard time to saw it off into bite sz.
I was so worried about choking on the meat.
I ate half, and won't even consider bringing the left over home. The cut off the meat is inferior quality.
I have it 2 stars b/c the Caesar salad and the orrichette we're good.
Great food for a big group and lots of tables. Their special ravioli was great. Also would highly recommend getting focaccia for the table.
Wonderful service and great vegetarian options. Full party enjoyed all the ordered dishes. Beautiful atmosphere. Required vaccine proof for entry.
Incredible staff. The food was amazing.
Highlights of the menu:
Drink - Underground City
Antipasti - Burrata
Pizza - Siciliana
Pasta - Tagliolini con Granchio
Best Italian food in SF! No other restaurant compares! Amazing staff and excellent service as well. Love coming back here time and time again!
We were a large group of 14 there for a birthday celebration. Everyone loved it. Excellent food and appetizers and we ordered lots of it's from the menu. Very warm and inviting ambiance. Our waiter was a bit grumpy, but it did not stop us from having a blast and enjoy delicious food. Can't wait to go back. Do not miss the Burrata and the meatball spaghetti.
Totally flavorful food! Never hope to come to FiDi for great food however this was most certainly a charming astonishment. All dishes we requested as a table were wonderful! Sweet (tiramisu) was simply alright I would pass. Not modest, but rather this is San Francisco!
These guys were super nice and have a beautiful location and great ambience, with delicious cocktails and such potential. The food though, was a giant disappointment. Just go to Olive Garden. Pasta was pre-cut, overcooked, and drowned in sauce. And who covers a margherita in waxy mozzarella? For $16 give me some fresh mozzarella and more than a whiff of basil. Pizza tasted like it came out of a freezer. The crust had no flavor and was overdone. I get better focaccia for $3.99 at Trader Joe's, it was dense and flavorless. This is TGIFriday's Italian food in a "twice-the-price" costume. Don't be fooled. Kudos to the friendly staff and the person who decorated the interior.
My boyfriend and I had dinner there recently and can't stop raving about it. The dishes were simple, but beautifully presented and very tasty. We had the burrata appetizer and for it being few ingredients, the flavors excited the palate. The ribeye was perfectly cooked and the seafood risotto was creamy and definitely had enough seafood. Staff was very personable, attentive and accommodating.
I am not sure if it is the same owner, but I was a regular at Palio between 2003 and 2014. I loved, loved their happy hour: a free thin crust Neapolitan pizza with 2 drinks. It then became $1 for some SF law thingy. Anyway, the manger who then became the owner was really nice and courteous, his staff was fantastic. I have great memories of that place. Would love to visit again when I come back to SF.
I got the margarita pizza, and honestly it was one of the best pizzas I've ever had in my life. Plus the service was spectacular.
I'd say this place was utterly forgettable. I wouldn't recommend you go here unless you have a large business lunch.
The food was fine, the service was fine, the cocktails were fine, but after that many fines I'm building up to a place that I would never come back to.
Specifically I got the chicken parm which good but the breading could have been a hair crispier on the edges, and the veggies on the side were too oily.
One huge positive is that we could book it for a large team lunch which is certainly the crowd to which they are catering, but outside of that, I'd never take a date here.
Absolutely delicious food! Never expect to come to FiDi for good food but this was definitely a pleasant surprise. All dishes we ordered as a table were superb! Dessert (tiramisu) was just ok- I would definitely pass. Not cheap, but this is San Francisco!
