Pep Boys reviews
21Tried to charge me for unnecessary repairs when I brought car in for an oil change. I went to a trusted mechanic back home and he confirmed they lied about needing to replace my brakes.
Ryan and Romiro helped me out tonight with new tires. Had a leaking tire they confirmed, checked my others, and stayed late to get the job done. Much appreciated, thanks guys!
My new set of Hankook Dynapro AT2's I bought though Amazon Prime will last 50k miles. I love their low price. Good luck getting a set of beefy new off-road truck shoes mounted and balanced for less than the $1,000 at Costco. I saved a few hundred bucks, easy. Shopping for tires through Amazon Prime is a bargain.
Unfortunately, the Pep Boys tire service through Prime proved a real bust. I arrived hours before my appointment to PB's shop in Clairemont, San Diego, and only had to wait 90 minutes. And sure, $20 per tire installation seemed a killer deal. Little did I know.
I left the service center after sundown and noticed several problems in the harsh light of day. PEP Boys failed to twist on a single valve stem cap. They're free with new tires, people! Additionally, two of my center wheel caps went missing. Obviously they weren't seated properly, perhaps not even installed.
No biggie. I'm chill. One cap was already missing because of a thirsty mechanic at my regular shop, whose sorry butt got fired for drinking on the job. Was my Pep Boys service rep also buzzed? Not likely, but clearly that looks plausible. Thankfully I found cheap center wheel cap replacements on Amazon Prime. Hells ya, I even bought some fancy metal valve stem caps.
Finally, a few days later I noticed that two of my lock nuts were very loose. That's mighty easy to spot when a lock nut sticks out a good inch above the others. With this oversight we've moved from sloppy work to true negligence that could have cost me at least a tire or two. I had to recheck every damn nut to ensure I didn't face a potential safety issue.
To recap: Do your homework and save serious cash shopping for premium road rubber on Prime. But for piece of mind and personal safety, have Amazon ship your new tires anywhere but PEP Boys, where cheap service comes at a very high price.
One of the best. My tire gave out and only had enough for the actual tire. Gave pep boys a call and they fixed it and installed for only $75! They saved my day and they deserve so much more than they are getting right now! I’d give 100+ stars to this place if I could! I recommend going here for all car troubles
Thank you Ryan great customer service and very helpful I’ll definitely come back again and I’ll bring all my family car here, thank you again you the best I did oil change here it was great experience
Incredibly disappointing experience. I made an appointment to have all my tires changed. When I got there there was a mad scramble because they thought they didn’t have the tires I ordered even though they specifically told me they were in stock. Strike one.
After dropping off my car, I received a call from the shop during which the woman on the phone aggressively tried to oversell me. She also sneakily pressured me to pay for tire alignment which I had ALREADY purchased and was clearly visible in my order which she hadn’t bothered to look at. On top of that, she insisted my brake pads were in critical condition and I really needed an oil change. Which is funny because I had an oil change last month and replaced my brake pads less than a year ago. I do not appreciate the dishonesty and manipulation tactics. Strike two.
I pick up my car and head out on the road. 30 minutes into my trip my tire pressure light flashes on. These people didn’t even check the tire pressure after installing my tires! Very, very sloppy. Strike three.
I will never be returning here and I urge everyone else to avoid this place like the plague. Two thumbs down for Pep Boys.
This is my go-to place! Paul always takes care of my car regardless of what the problem is. They are always real with their pricing and Paul makes sure I understand everything that is going on and what is needed for my car. I really appreciate the new self-service link that provides a full inspection on my phone, who’s working on my car and updates on what is going on. Thanks as always! I’ll be back.
Riley was the best employee I have ever dealt with at Pepboys.he was very attentive and any questions that I had directly answered them and was even willing to go the extra mile to show and explain me the issues that I had. This store exceeded my expectations, even though I had more problems with my car than I originally planned for!
Run don't walk from Pep Boys! Go to Discount Tire around the corner. This place overcharges for absolutely no reason. Poor service, poor product; an overall extremely disappointing experience!
Went in to get a tire repaired to hold me over until I was ready for new ones. I talked to Ryan about the new tires while the old one was being fixed, and Paul came in and let us know that I needed new brake pads sooner than I'd hoped. We added those to the list, and Ryan set me up with a great price and made me an appointment. I took the car in to get the tires and brake pads today, and they took care of it quickly and did a great job. Everyone was really pleasant and helpful. Thanks guys!
Riley, our attendant is super helpful and quickly attended to our needs. He suggested what to buy and gave us very helpful tips when buying tires. 5 stars for Pep Boys Balboa!
Paul was so helpful and transparent on all repairs needed on my vehicle. My vehicle was ready the same day. I will continue to bring my vehicle to this Pep Boy location.
Excellent service.in & hour time Passenger Headlamp replaced & on the road feeling safe again. Thank you.
Similarly to my last experience on another vehicle, I found a screamin’ Black Friday tire deal and reserved online. The service manager took me thru the process quickly, told about the progress app, got the keys and the job was done before the target time. Nice fella, everybody there was great! This is why I keep coming back for more, keep it up!
I'm not really a pep boys fan. In the past I've been overcharged at Pep boys or over estimated. This store is now Advanced Auto Parts and I am hoping they do better. I'm on the fence with my last visit. Give them a try as they have ALOT of parts. It's a big store. I just don't really like going there for service anymore.
This is the slowest service I've ever received. A simple tire change takes hours, even with an appointment. It should be 30 minutes max. Transphobic conversations from the store employees not exactly pleasant to overhear when waiting. No amenities such as coffee or even a water cooler.
They misdiagnosed my car and it costed $600. They also did not provide me updates, I had to call them multiple times. Terrible service.
Attentive, thorough and quality services provided. Friendly staff available to answer any and all questions - which gets them that 5th star. I always have lots of questions with products/services I’m unfamiliar with. Having access to staff that’s patient and willing to satisfy customer queries is what I appreciate the most here. This location gets bonus points for going above and beyond
Had an appointment at 4 pm. Received a call asking if i could come in earlier. I came at 3: 30 pm. My car didn't start getting serviced till 6 pm. I was there a total of 3 hours to replace 4 tires.
Paul guided me to a better deal than I came in with - a free tire offer and a higher mileage warranty. Total satisfaction from a local business. Wow! No hard sells and a 10% veterans discount. Customer service excellence and icing on the cake, too. See you soon for my other truck's tires.
