Pepe's Mexican Food reviews
12Love this place! Great tacos. Recommend the chips and guacamole, it's the best I ever had!
What happened fish tacos were terrible.used to be the best.golden brown batter is now choc brown, gag.
Cute little beach restaurant. The food was a bit overpriced for what we received. It was tasty, but just wasn't made well. My burrito had hot sauce in it, and it was 3 bits had heat and the rest of the burrito didn't.
It has been at least 15 years since I have eaten at this landmark. I live about 90 minutes away and grew up with PMF in my teens 30 years ago. My friends would show up here, wait in line happily, and devour the meals.
When I ordered these two tacos in the pic, it was like stepping back in time. The Ensenada Fish taco was the same unique flavor like it was for me in 1993! Crazy good. The Asada taco was also good.
The prices have gone up but that’s everywhere else too. The portions are decent for the price but it’s definitely more expensive than most places that I know for similar food.
Get some tacos and go to the beach. Listen to the waves while you experience a taste of Ensenada here on Silver Strand.
Very good service and very rich nachos I highly recommend them, just don't forget to bring cash
Customer service is excellent. The food is excellent this is the spot to go to and enjoy what you pay for a meal.
I shouldn't be rating this place as I have not been here to eat since my uncle, Pepe, ran it. He still owns it, but leased it out to someone else. I worked there from 1992-almost 2003. If you were a regular there during that time, I most likely knew you. Id work 7 days a week sometimes.
One thing I was proud about how my uncle ran it is how he really cared about the customers. Any complaint to him, he would handle without question if he was around. He would check everything to make sure it was up to par, and would yell at his cooks if something was wrong. It might have been harsh, but he wanted perfection for his customers. The people that knew him, loved him. He was nice, polite, and understanding. The burritos would barely fit in the bags and were priced almost the same as the ones in the downtown Oxnard at that time. Tacos were made with the regular corn tortilla size you by at the store what are like three times the size as street tacos and were only $1.47, when street tacos were like $1.25 or more downtown at that time. You would think because of it's location by the beach it would be a whole lot more.
Again, I have no clue what this place is like today as far as the food. I just read a lot of the reviews that compared it to the old school. There was only one uncle Pepe, and I hope this place is at least decent since the torch was passed. Cheers!

This place used to be awesome back in the day. Now it's just really overpriced with really dirty food handling habits and food that is barely mediocre tasting
Agree with Albert (and probably bought my burritos from him in the 90s and early 2000s). Living in Kansas now, but definitely miss those burritos! Absolutely amazing! Disappointed in the recent reviews! Hope they get it together cuz I still recommend it to anyone and always stop by for a burrito whenever I’m there for a visit! Pepe’s, a terrific place in the past, worth at least a try, so check it out and please leave a review.
Have not been there for 20 years. Was surprised it was still open. Food was very different. The flavor it used to have was gone. Like everything else prices were outrageous.
It's a real coin flip between here and Jesse's, but if you want fish tacos and maybe a brown bag from across the street to enjoy at their outdoor dining this is the place! No problem.
We stopped by as this was recommended as a local staple for a long time by family, and were very disappointed! This may be due to new ownership, but id never eat here again. Our order was wrong and we were over charged, the fish tasted burnt, stale chips, the sauces were way too spicy which is why i ordered no spicy sauce and got spicy anyways- returned it to find they must rely on that spice as there was no other flavor to the shrimp tacos. Not to mention it was far too over priced for the quality. So bummed.
