The hotel put us in a tough position by not sending us a booking confirmation (after which we looked for alternative accommodation) and then not helping us with a cancellation after they reached out to us one day before we were supposed to travel. Staff was not helpful in finding resolution for the situation.

I wouldn’t recommend the Pine Inn for those who value sleep. Unfortunately, the walls were very thin and the door didn't fit the door frame meaning there’s two inches of space under the door for sound to carry into your room. I heard every toilet flush, every door slam, and every conversation in the hall. Needless to say, it wasn't a very restful place.

The lobby is very opulent but not designed for lounging as there’s no food or drink allowed. And since the lobby's decor focuses more on aesthetics rather than comfort, it isn't very practical.

Parking is limited— they have 21 spaces on the property with 49 rooms so if you’re not the lucky half, you must brave the unreliable street parking.

Don’t stay in room 18. Glass gets dumped right below the room since garbage cans are located there. Garbage trucks start coming early and then you get to listen to delivery trucks also, Should have read the reviews.

This hotel is fantastically positioned with quaint comfy rooms and great staff on the front desk. But! Arrived having travelled from Australia (2 couples, rooms booked six months ago) only to be told that one of the bookings had been moved back a day and no rooms were available. Further enquiries revealed one of the bookings had been modified by someone at the hotel only days before we arrived. Fortunately another hotel nearby had a room available and although the staff apologised - a promised discussion with 'the manager' never eventuated. Worse still, a follow up email from the senior manager 'hoping we had a great stay ' was never responded when we asked for an explanation. A quick chat with the hotel that provided the backup room revealed that this type of situation is actually not uncommon. So take care and maybe stay elsewhere - what happened to us was a deliberate act by someone in the hotel to take someone else's booking over one of ours - a change made without contacting us and a change made without any apology or explanation from management. We didn't pay for the backup room to be sure (some comfort) but this is the worst possible behaviour from any service business - let alone a place where you hope to rest after very long travels

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Pine inn. The location was fantastic, in the middle of everything. We walked everywhere, to dinner, to bars, coffee shops, and the beach. On a long holiday weekend, Pine Inn was the only place that I could find a room that accommodated our family of three. Because of some of the previous reviews, we brought ear plugs for sleeping. With the ear plugs, we didn't hear any noise and slept quite well. We did hear a lot of street noise on Monday due to garbage trucks after we got up. We stayed in one of the penthouse level rooms, #64. The room was honestly better than we imagined. It was large and nicely decorated. We had a large living room with a dining area, along with a bedroom with a king bed. There are a few places in the bathroom that showed the age of the property, but it was clean and well appointed. All the rooms on the penthouse level are quite nice and large. Not sure what the other rooms are like in the other buildings of the hotel. It is true that they don't have an elevator and the bell person does not help you with your luggage upstairs. It didn't bother us as we didn't have a lot of luggage, but I can see how that could be problematic for others. Our biggest challenge was parking, we were able to get a spot on the day of arrival, but the second day the lot was all full when we came back from our outing. It took us quite some time to find street parking. The parking situation would be the reason that I would look for alternative properties in Carmel next time. But we are quite happy with the location and the room.

My in-laws spent their honeymoon here in 1943. The lobby is still the same - elegant.

We stayed in this well located hotel for an overnight while in Carmel by the Sea. The hotel is in the commercial section of Carmel so we were in walking distance to restaurants and about 15 minutes walking to the beach.
