Pismo Beach Walkway & Boardwalk reviews
15It was the Friday before Memorial Day, and was a beautiful day, windy but not overly so. We walked down the beach and back along the boardwalk. We always enjoy the pier, too. It was a very nice time.
Great place to go for walks, get away from home then find a nice place to eat. It's worth the 20 min drive.
Pismo is my all-time favorite place. We've been coming here for 23 years to vacation, and now live here. We love it!
Great spot to find good food. From seafood to BBQ. This place is a landmark. Historic and interesting. Fun place to bring the family or hang out with the wife. Lots of shops, places to stay.
This is a great beach.
Lots of good shops, for shopping. Lots of good restaurants and hotels. Best beach, and pier for a nice long walk.
Beautiful views. New pier that's open. Great for kids too. Can be little crowded. Come check out the colorful neon sign at night time.
One of the best walks along the Beach. Views of beach, surf, and the hillsides. Very peaceful and a safe place for the traveler to stretch their legs. Restrooms in the free parking area.
Cute place! Hot sand, the sound of the ocean, the spring sun. A good place to walk along and breathe fresh air. But the big disadvantage is that seagulls go to the toilet everywhere!
Love this place been going since I was a kid. Dog friendly, slides that go down to the beach, and many little shops to go to.
Super nice experience! Beautiful pier with very good restaurants! Definitely would recommend!
Like the sign says: Not L. A, NOT THE BAY. Pismo has its own vibe. Better than Santa Barbara, because it's smaller. You can bowl, play pool, bar hop, get a tattoo, lay on the beach and people watch, if you love doggies they are all here. Food can be reasonable if you eat at 7-eleven, just chowder at Cool Cat restaurant, cinnamon roll bakery, subway sandwich. 1 more exit on hwy 1 Mc Donald's, Chinese, and Mexican get away from downtown and prices go down. Also try near by Grover beach. Their main strip has lots of mom and pop restaurants.
Always fun staying here for our mini family trips. Lot's more shops, restaurants and an updated pre-pier area for people watching or kids activities.
'21/9 1st time visitor/review (over two week stay in Hotel Row) :
- Safe, clean, day/night, one-size-fits-all, free public use experience!
- Free-standing, larger-than-life "Pismo Beach" photo op signage center stage-a must see lit up at night.
- Convenient downtown shopping (stores/restaurants) -once find parking spot (metered-app payment preferred, free after 6p). [Note: if stay in Hotel Row, easy. 5 mile walk (10 min.) one way by beach or sidewalk. Otherwise, plenty of downtown lodging with & without ocean views! ]
- Shops: sales/rentals of all things beach/surf sport/play/clothing.
- Public seating options: 2-4 person, checker board topped, cement picnic tables, long bench areas (cement & wood). Not much shade.
- Corn hole: two cement-fixed sets.
- Freestanding restrooms & sand rinse off areas.
- Individual street-musicians & group of ukulele players any given day/night.
- Unique, ocean-themed, kids climbing structure.
- No bikes/skateboards allowed on the large, wooden planked walkway or pier, but the tiled/stamped promenade has no such restrictions.
- Dogs: yes, dog friendly (inc free poop-scoop gloves dispensers), BUT dogs are not permitted on the:
1) high, well lit, somewhat-recently fully renovated, ~. 25 mile pier into the ocean.
2) lower, smaller, wooden walkway heading out north.
- Fishing: Yes, off the pier (inc.two, public fish-cleaning stations & small bait shop), but some restrictions (see posted signage). Saw fishing from beach as well.
- Bird watching: great location! Plenty to see with naked eye & binoculars-plenty of unique species. [Note: bird feeding prohibited signs posted. ]
- Surfer watching: also a great location! [Note: surf shops on main street offer lessons and all types of board rentals. ]
- North side: a wide, well constructed, wooden stairs system leading down to the very large beach (as far as the eye can see in both directions) and two swing sets (toddler & sling seats-but, no bucket-type), plus beach vollyball nets further up.
- South side: large, impressive, multi-use, concrete structure transitioning from walkway level to beach consisting of stairs, ramp, amphitheater seating, & two play slides.
- Either side of stairs: huge, dog/kid friendly, fine-sand beach. [Barefoot note: hardly a rock in sight, but watch for plethora of clam shells. ]
- Just south of concrete slides: several, year-round sand vollyball nets/courts on beach.

Small but it was clean and people were friendly. It was a little too busy with the car show. It was hard to find parking but it was good entertainment.
