Point Reyes Lighthouse reviews
17 We traveled from the Sierra Nevada for a day trip to Point Reyes. The lighthouse was breathtaking. We got there at 3: 40pm and the visitor center closes at 4pm. We were able to go in and look around at the neat items on display. The 2 staff members were kind and helpful. We then headed out to view the lighthouse. I was hoping to get to actually walk down to it, even with it having 313 steps down to the lighthouse, but I think we were too late since the gate was closed. I didn't see any hours posted so I can't be 100% sure if it was even open at all during the day. However the view point has a picnic table and great opportunities for photos. We were hoping we might catch some whale sightings but even though was didn't see any we were treated to such a beautiful view. It was very cold and windy, so our hoodies were helpful. If you wear ballads, like my son, you may want to hold them as his flew off his head. There are 3 restrooms available just before the visitor center and they are equipped with soap, water, and a handblower to dry your hands.
We will definitely be back.
Wanna visit again in a beautiful day.
Visit here again in a beautiful day.
But, failed to reach to the lighthouse due to the closing time.
Don't forget to arrive the gate before 4: 00pm!
Worth the trip. Feels like the end of the continent. The Pacific seems so powerful. Can't imagine what it felt like to be a lighthouse guard here. So close yet so far away from nearest town.
Fantastic views and atmosphere. Highly recommended. Parking is ultra limited, I was forced to part half a mile away along the road.
Views from Point Reyes are breathtaking. At the halfway point, there is an information center. During your walk, you can learn about history. The stairs to the lighthouse may be closed if winds are high. Check the weather before heading out to the lighthouse. In addition, whales can be spotted playing around.
Postcard like 270 degree ocean view. If you are travelling to the Marin County, this is a must see. The lighthouse has been well-maintained. There is a small gift shop with conservation displays. The steps can be challenging for some, but total worth the walk.
Not the first time I've been here, but this time I showed up too early to be able to take the stairs all the way down to the lighthouse (stairs don't open until 10 am). As always, a beautiful sight. Peaceful, serene, the ocean extended as far as the eyes can see. Just a short walk from the parking lot to the top of the stairs, but beautiful nonetheless. Worth a visit whenever I'm in the area.
A nice place to visit. The road trip itself is a treat, driving through historic ranches and tall redwood trees. The lighthouse grounds are beautifully maintained. The views and the environment are inspiring.
One of the most beautiful places on the California Coast and with the possibility of seeing whales. Park with excellent roads and very well maintained.
Beautiful remote place. Was great to escape the heat wave. Weather could be unpredictable, so bring layers.
Some steps down, cold wind on face. It was cute little Lighthouse by the sea. Although we visited in a beautiful day, we were not luck to able to see whales swimming around. Best time to see whales is in January. There are restrooms by the parking lot and on the highest point.
I had the chance to go to the site on a sunny day unfortunately the lighthouse was closed however the detour was worth it! If you're in the area, it's worth checking out this place.
We couldn’t see much for the fog but still an awesome experience. And we saw some elk too!
Great view, pretty lighthouse, very good presentation by the park rangers. Be ready for the 300 steps down to the lighthouse.and back up to the road. Plus there is a quarter mile or so walk from the parking lot to the oceanside stairs.
Came here once or twice 40 years ago when we lived in Novato. Really enjoyed it. Couldn't manage climbing all of the stairs back to the parking lot now. Amazing views.
We spotted more than ten humpback whales spouting water near the lighthouse. The hike was quite windy and had a strong fishy odor. However, the ocean vista was breathtaking, so ensure you have a warm jacket with you.
