I really don't eat food like this very often, but when I do, I have to give credit where credit is due. I had heard a lot about Popeye's Louisiana chicken, and especially about the Popeye's Louisiana chicken sandwich spicy.
So, lo and behold, driving home today I saw a Popeye's Louisiana chicken on my way home and decided to give it a try.
I got the special, which is a chicken sandwich spicy, Cajun fries, and diet Coke, all for around $11 plus tax, and sat down in the empty place. To be honest the place looked interesting inside, and it was colorful and very clean it reminded me of fast food places in the 70s when they were a little bit more in fashion.

The staff was 100% Latino, (Mi Gente), and while I waited for my order I watched them knock out about 50 drive-thru orders with the precision and technique of seal team 6. This Crew does not mess around and they probably sell $50,000 worth of chicken a day.

Also I have to say, the place was totally spotless, and the staff was super friendly with me.
So like I said, I really don't do fast food but once or twice a year, but the next time I get it fast food craving I'll be going here to the Popeyes on San Pablo avenue in El cerrito. They have the chicken sandwich game on lock.

They have the very best chicken nuggets. But I don't like their sauces, I prefer the Burger, King, sweet and sour sauce with the Popeye's nuggets! Also, I love their biscuits and their pies

I came here at 8: 51pm with a mobile offer order $10 for 5pc spicy chicken, 2biscuits, 1fries and 1mashed potato. They told me they were about to close and do not have spicy chicken legs anymore, so they replaced them with thighs. Service is friendly. They do provide parking and drive thru. This is the nearest popeyes that do accept this mobile offer.

Ordered the chicken wings with a side of Mac and Cheese. The Mac and Cheese was standard didn’t stand out 5/10. The chicken wings were very juicy, had good crunch, 8/10. It came with a biscuit without anything to put on it so it was pretty bland 4/10. The restaurant was pretty dirty notice quite a bit of trash but the actual design was nice and homey. Since it’s fast food don’t really expect much else from it but I would recommend (probably only the chicken).

Popeyes may have some of the best tasting chicken around, but this location has some serious production issues. We waited 13 minutes in the drive thru line before getting to the speaker and we we’re only two cars back from the speaker. Once we ordered the line seemed to move quickly until the cashier motioned for us to stay away from pulling directly up to the window. I took this to be they didn’t want our car sitting at the window adversely affecting their per car waiting average. I also noticed that a pickup truck that had ordered their food three cars ahead of us was waiting for their food past the window on the curb. Obviously they were told to pull over by the staff and their bag would be brought out to them. While we were still waiting to pull forward staff brought out a large order to them. For whatever reason the driver walked back in after going through the contents of their order, leading us to throughly check our order. Everything was cool except for the condiments we requested.

I've reviewed Popeyes Chicken franchises up and down the state. Generally I have the same complaint about them all. Where in the world do they find the 2lb chickens that they. Use?

This place has a host of other non Corporate problems. Orders are in correct 95% of the time (99.9 in the drive thru). If I wanted spicy I'd have said so, and no, not pieces of each. There should be gravy in the mashed potatoes. Please clean the filters in the soda and ice machines. The build up in the filters from the tap water tastes pretty awful after a few years. If the new person got my order wrong, it's OK. Just fix it. That's why they're new and you're the Manager.

Overall, improve your service. The previous franchise was the only game in town too. Place sat empty for YEARS!

PS: Chicken wing-my pinkie

You expect your food to be hot, it was heat lamp warm. I purchased 2 orders of popcorn shrimp and 14 chicken tenders. Also there was more breading/batter than meat. The mashed potatoes were good but there wasn't much gravy. And the biscuits were hard like hockey pucks.
Hadn't had it for a long time and remembered why.

Went for the $6 Big box which is supposed to include 2 pc chicken OR 3 tenders with biscuit, 2 sides, drink, and apple pie. Good deal! But location in El Cerrito charged addl. 50 for mac n cheese as a side! No big deal, but they also forgot the apple pie too! Not good but I will go back again and be sure to check the order before leaving

Usually try to avoid this location ever since they ran out of wings BEFORE the supply chain crisis. Had to drive to El Cerrito location. They seem impatient in drive-thru as if trying to to get rid of customers. Hopefully they've gotten their act together. I shall give them another fair chance

Probably the only Popeyes in the whole Bay Area that will actually provide you with what you ordered while also being safe for human consumption.

I have been patronizing Popeye's since it was introduced.
Too bad this location and maybe all others have discontinued "dirty rice" at their locations.
But the dining area has reopened at this restaurant since the pandemic.
There is a difference between having fresh fried chicken from the kitchen to the dining table.
It is rather bland if you have to eat it in the car or take it home.
A person feels better when the urge and gut are satisfied.
Seriously.

Mostly standard Popeyes, but the chicken was a lot drier than other places. I had spicy chicken tenders, but it was dry enough some parts were like jerky.

Love this Popeyes. So much fresher than the original in San Pablo by the casino. Line is never too long and the staff is always friendly

Let me start off by saying that I am a huge fan of Popeyes restaurants and their food. Having eaten in numerous locations all over the US, you can consider me a "connoisseur" of their products.

Now I'm not sure what happened at this location, but there is clearly a significant management and leadership problem. I have never, in 30+ years of eating fast food, seen such an immature, incompetent, lazy, and dangerously uncontrolled crew of people as the ones that work here.

Some examples, starting with the most recent issue:

On the day of this review, I requested red beans and rice as a side dish with a combo meal. The person taking the order asked me 4 times if this was correct. I got home and discovered that I had instead been given mashed potatoes. My bad for not checking, your bad for not listening.

That same visit, the lady taking orders in the drive through started laughing uncontrollably to the point that she had to excuse herself in the middle of placing the order. When I got to the window, the staff were playing with sauce packets while joking and clowning around. This, mind you, while the line is backing up out onto San Pablo Avenue.

Other, previous issues include:

- Every order I've ever placed here had at least one wrong item in it.

- Twice, I requested spicy chicken sandwiches and was given mild instead.

- Requested sauces have been missing or unrequested substitutes were provided.

- A 24 piece nuggets is actually 21 pieces of chicken and another 18 pieces of just breading with no meat inside at all.

- Soda cups are either filled so high that they overflow all over me and inside my car (3 different times!) or are under-filled and warm with barely any ice.

- Constant stock shortages: out of 9 Fanta flavors they only ever seem to have one or two at most. Invariably they run out of spicy chicken or sauces. Management should be tracking this and ensuring that their orders reflect demand, not just what has the highest margins.

- Staff seem to have difficulty understanding me, which is odd as I'm often complimented for how clearly and concisely I speak. My husband has also tried to order here and they don't seem to understand him either. Maybe the headsets are no good?

I don't know what kind of training these folks receive but it clearly is not the same as what employees at every other location get. Not once, in many years and many different locations, have I ever seen such a poorly managed Popeyes as this one. Zero customer service, poor inventory management, and inefficient processes are likely leading to significant losses in potential profits and brand prestige.

Going forward I believe I will take my business to the Berkeley location instead. No issues to report with the food and the staff there are polite and friendly.
