I met this guy a month ago. Lasted one and a half sessions. He was irritated/ annoyed the moment I stepped into his office. When I didn’t give him the answers he wanted, from the questionnaire, he got even more annoyed. (Sorry, those eval questions don’t always have clear binary answers)

The sessions felt more like an interrogation. Multiple times he was telling me, “you are this”and “you are that” and “. You seem paranoid”. I honestly started to feel paranoid. Only an hour into the first session and I’m getting tagged. I thought he painted with a real broad brush and when I communicated modest disagreement, he got frustrated. He was real hack- like.

By the way, he doesn’t use email and he only takes cash.

The experience sucked. He worked in prisons, and it showed. I feel real bad for the inmates that had to contend with this Nurse Ratchet.

Most people do not want to follow treatment plans. Do not understand initial assessment to prepare the appropriate treatment plans. Thus, they do not follow the office rules and policies, People have the wrong conception of Psychotherapy and during the first session, the therapist needs to educate. Thus, during the initial session, the therapist needs to present their credentials and expertise but some people take that in the wrong turn. Others are prejudiced and narrow-minded as well as judgmental with some cognitive distortions. However, some patients are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Others do not tolerate recognizing that they have problems and flaws and that is painful to them then they turn that into anger and project that onto the therapist. At times some patients come to the office under the influence of drugs or trying to do their diagnosis. Most people have difficulties communicating assertively and resolving problems face-to-face. Is easy to make derogatory comments on the internet without talking with the other person. Please find treatment for your problems. Thank you.

Arrogant, bossy with a hot temper. He scared me and I let him know I wouldn't be back.

Use caution: As a client of mental health for nearly fifty years, I have crossed paths with a wide variety of professionals within the mental health system. The majority of whom are a privilege to know. However, based upon my personal experience with Dr. Portal, I can personally attest that he is the most obstinate and alarmingly egotistical individual I have ever had the misfortune of meeting on a professional basis.

I felt constantly belittled during my initial therapy session. In addition, Portal boasted of his extensive experience in the criminal justice system, explaining to me that he worked as a mental health professional within the State Penitentiary System. Considering the man's absence of bedside manner, there's no doubt that his career treating felony convicts has skewed his judgment. He has failed to consider (in fact, it appears he is completely oblivious) that he now works with the general public in a private practice setting.

Furthermore, Portal expressed anger and frustration in multiple correspondences, following my request to terminate his services. I conclude him to be grossly incompetent. Therefore, I can not, in good conscience, recommend his services.

I had an appointment scheduled with him for the last day of school (I work in education + I’m a foster parent of my siblings). I was so tired after school that I fell asleep after work + picking up my siblings and when I woke up, it was past my appointment time. I finally called today to reschedule my initial appointment in May and got a voicemail. He called back and asked why I missed the appointment so I told him (^^^) then he asked why I didn’t call to cancel, so I told him that it was because I intended to go to the appointment in May. He responded with, “I recommend getting a different psychologist, so call your insurance back. ” I thought this was super rude and unprofessional! Really glad I missed that initial appointment.

Stay clear of this jackass. Intake appointment essentially lasted 2 sessions. Extremely judgmental and rude. Tried to give me financial advice about the recession. I will not be going back.

My first appointment was made by my insurance and i wish i had read the reviews first. Very judgy during intake appointment. I tried a second appointment because I do want to work on my mental health but this made it worse. After talking about my experience I cancelled my next appointment he then called me and was angry and pushy, I became flustered and mixed up my words which just seemed to make him more angry.

Dr Portal is dedicated to support and help people who really needed Some people likes to slander and use Dr. Portal's services for secondary gain. That negative comment from Patrick is not true. Dr Portal has 30 years of experience working in the mental health field
