The best hiking spot ever in San Diego. If you love hiking, this is the best place to burn your fat. ;)

Don't go through the forestry road. It's closed. Follow the trail sign and turn on left at the Cal Fire Ramona Station. People mostly get confused if they follow the map. map always take you at forestry road where it says no trespassing and warning for hikers to turn around.

You can park at roadside between the forestry road and Cal Fire Ramona Station.

It's tiring but really a great hike! Don't give up.

Paid $10 for parking on a Sunday. Arrived at 6: 30 AM on 9/19/2021, started hiking at 6: 45, very nice cold and cloudy morning. The trails are wide enough and well maintained. Mostly uphill towards the potato chip rock, beautiful view of cloud inversion until around 10AM. There was a short line to take photos on the potato chip rock, challenging and kinda dangerous to jump from the gap of 2 boulders, very helpful if someone is holding you from the other side for safety and stability. Coming down from the potato chip, we opted to slide down in between the boulders. Hiking down was a bit more challenging for the knee, hiking poles helps for stability. Beautiful view from the top, very hot temp at noon. Bring plenty of water and some snacks. My 10 year old son loved it!

For my first time hike, i may have died twice! I'm pretty sure my soul stayed at the chip. I made it all the way. Some nice views of heaven along the way. Once I got to the chip, i felt good. I made it, now let's get out of here.

I'm not used to hiking so it was strong for me but I did it. The good thing is that I arrived super early and the sun was not yet strong, so I recommend arriving very early but the experience was pleasant.

Can get crowded on the weekends. I'd suggest getting in early or going on a weekday. Also, make sure to bring plenty of water and sun protection around the summertime!

09/05/2021 was the hottest day, and we went hiking.

It was 94°F.

Lucky all of us made safe on the way down. And I really appreciate so many friendly hikers have us their water?

It is so challenging and it is probably the best hiking trail I would recommend.

But, rule #1 before you go: bring a lot of water!

Hike was good, a little of everything. It has boulders, flat paths, hills and switchbacks. Honestly, if people weren’t on the “potato chip” I would barely have noticed.

Also, this hike goes about 5MIN past the photo moment to the top. Finish the hike:)

Awesome view lying on top of the Chip rock, if you go early enough (start @ 6, when the gates open), you can see the Poway city in the valley under a sea of clouds.a sight to behold it is.

It's my frequent hiking spot. I usually go up there from Lake Poway. Love that it can be challenging, but the way you feel after a good work out is great!

Always a great workout. Even if you run into a lot of people (it gets busy), they're always very friendly. The views are awesome and of course, the rock is very cool. Everyone should have their picture from Potato Chip Rock.

It doesn’t look like a potato chip but being on it does seem kinda sketchy. The walk up is fairly simple especially if you’re an avid hiker. The views were my favorites part of the hike. I mostly hike to get away from people and technology. However, there are a lot of tourist that come here and the top is crowded with not only humans but also cell towers. I think that’s what all the tall metal towers are supposed to be. It’s a little off putting. Nevertheless, it’s a great way to get some fresh air on a constant incline almost 95% of the way. If you’re looking for a challenge I recommend dropping any weight you’re carrying and running up. Last, the parking is confusing. The GPS will take you to a closed gate. You have to park on the side of the highway. You’ll know you’re in the right location when you see a ton of cars on the side of the road. Once you park just walk towards the center of the cars and you should see a small sign that says entrance to potato chip. Good luck and have fun!

You can take the longer trail originating from Lake Poway or the shorter service road from Hwy 67's Mt. Woodson Rd. I prefer the second. Nice and quick workout to the chip

Very beautiful hiking trail with a perfect spot to take a photo at the end. Remember to have lots of water because it may sound easy, but it is actually challenging and hot and sunny. Very close to the city and great for a short hike on a Sunday morning.

Cool hike with a nice view and a line at the top so you can show your social media friends that you stood on a broken rock.

So it was easy for me to get to the “chip” not easy for my party, in one place you have to be an experienced climber I’m talking about a safe one, that even if you drop you won’t fall, but it takes a great grip to get up, another place to get there is easier but involves you to do the hands dip exercise, not everyone would be fine doing that, many people turn around when they see this challenge.however once again it was easy for me.

Bring water on a sunny day minimum 1L, no shade on the way up, possible to see a snake on the road there. So stay in the middle of the road and look ahead.

Good trail for spur of the moment unplanned hike. Although I recommend the shorter 4 mile trail if it's your first time hiking. I recommend starting early before the sun gets too hot. Go with a group or with someone patient to take a lot of Photos of you.
