Terrible customer service, the worst dumpster service I have ever used. I wish no stars was an option!

I call on Wednesday December 1,2021 for a missed pickup and they told me they will be back on Friday December 3,2021 and never came back to pickup the missed pick up! It’s ridiculous I have trash at my house that needs to get pickup!

Oh boy where to freaking begin!

A lot of the same issues as everyone else it seems.

1 - Republic services dropped of recycle LA bins in front of our building, and never brought them in with the regular ones. Theyve been outside for MOTHS! Our how has called them countless times for months with zero reply. We now have a giant trash pile from everyone who walks by throwing their trash into those cans. We have literal poop, maggots, flys, and what i assume to be a dead corpse smell pop up in the last 3 weeks. This is so unsanitary. They wont even empty out those cans when they were coming by for the regular trash, so its been collecting in the streets for months now.

2 - We've had almost 2 weeks with no pick-up of the main trash cans. So on top of the garbage outside, they dont pick up the garbage in side. And this isnt the first time. They CONSTANTLY "forget" or "missed the pick-up".

hope theyre sued out of existence soon.

Terrible customer service. Hours of waiting on hold. Pick up men are great, but if you need to talk to someone or have an issue you are SOL. Avoid if you have an alternative, but of course you probably don’t, and that’s exactly why the service is like this.

TLDR: Republic Services is overpriced, impossible to cancel service and has continued to charge us even after we moved. LA city is complicit for contracting with them.

Our business, Firefly Food Truck Fabrication, had been paying Republic Services between $250 - 500/mo to empty our dumpster weekly for three years. However, we had decided to lease a new, larger property in Santa Clarita and would be vacating our old address before Dec 31st, 2020.

I logged in to our online Republic Services account 6 weeks in advance to request a change of service address. After putting the new lease address into Republic Services' website, I found our that they couldn't service our new location. I then tried to cancel online, but apparently cancellation is not allowed through their website. I was given a number to call and called immediately to cancel.

After a 20 minute hold time I spoke with a rep who confirmed that they were unable to service our new location. I asked to cancel. I was told by the rep that she could not cancel my account and I would have to speak with our Republic Services account manager. She then offered to connect me to the account manager. After a short hold, the rep said she was unable to reach our account manager. "Okay.please give me her number". The rep said she wasn't allowed to give me her number, but that she would request that the account manager call me back to process the cancellation. "Inconvenient, but there's still plenty of time before we move" I thought.

I waited 3 weeks - THREE WEEKS! - for the account manager's call which I received in early December. The account manager again confirmed that she couldn't service our new address (I know), asked for the date we wanted to discontinue service (Dec 31st), and said she would process our cancellation request. "Well that was a hassle but at least it's done now".

It'sJanuary 25th and we are still being billed monthly (now over $500/mo for Jan and Feb). I called a billing rep today at Republic Services and explained the situation after another long hold. She told me our account is still "active" (ie.was never cancelled) and said she couldn't cancel it or refund the $1000+ in fraudulent charges. She transferred me to another number (I think LA city) where I was put on hold again. I spoke to another rep there, who "processed my complaint" and said that someone will return my call from Republic Services within 24 hours.

This experience has been ridiculous. LA city needs to stop doing business with Republic Services or at least overhaul the cancellation process.

I will update this post if/when I receive a call from Republic Services.

Fyi WM Waste Management services our new address and they charge half the price for 50% more dumpster AND we can fully manage our account online. Highly recommend WM.

Our business use to pay a lot of money week for 4 days of trash removal and recycling cardboard. But almost every week, we only get 3 days of service. This has been going on for years. Why do we need to pay full price when we only get 75% of the service we pay for? And recently the price tripled and the service quality doesn't even get better. We used to be able to call in the next day to report the missed collection and if we were lucky, they would send someone to collect later that day. But now they "close the office" on that day and we can't do anything about our overflowing dumpsters. Whenever we complained to them, they said they would save the complaint and pass it along to the pick up guys. But when we would call again, they wouldn't have our complaints saved. It's like they don't even care just because we are forced to use their service since the business is in their jurisdiction.

I work at a major non-profit here in Los Angels. I've had the absolute worst experience in dealing with Republic Services in Los Angeles, CA. Mayor Garcetti has to do something about this corporate monopoly. I understand as an Angeleno, we are trying to do our part in saving Mother Nature but not at the cost of basic things like unprofessional services, poor value and a understanding. They missed 5 of our pick ups and they do not have the courtesy of giving us credit. Not to mention, they did not pick up our recycling bin for over 2 months and while yes it did have certain items that did not belong in there we rectified it in a week. When i called in to see why the Republic Services representative stated that the bin was blocked. She said she had pictures. She sends those pictures to me and it was THE WRONG LOCATION! (See picture below). I'm not just writing this out of fury but real disappointment. IN addition, our offices are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic so we are not producing normal amounts of trash and therefore are being charged normal rates. I tried calling them to do bi-weekly pick up but they said that they do not offer bi weekly or monthly pick ups. Now I am stuck with a +$1000 bill. Mayor Eric Garcetti, City Council president Nury Martinez please implement these very basic and easy changes to this company! You'd do real civic duty.
