Robata Bar Santa Monica

We came here Friday 7pm and they had only 1 other party besides us. It ring the red flag bell in my head and I was correct- food was Bad. We came here for yakitori, it’s a rip off, every little skewer is 10 dollars or more- and imagine heavy salty ketch up on everything, that’s how they made it and how it taste like. I was traumatized after the 100+ dinner.

The food is absolutely awful if you’re looking to get quality skewers or sushi. The grilled oysters were super super salty, edamame tasted old, sushi was terrible, etc. Both bartender and waitress were great and nice but no amount of good service can make up for the horrible food. This place is fine if you want a beer, but by all means stay away from the food if you have any standards for Japanese food. I seriously have no idea why this place is above a 4.0

Excellent Robatayaki, or fireside cooking as it translates to. By the same group that owns Sushi Roku, they deliver a near perfect dinning experience.

That said, I will start by saying I wouldn’t recommend coming here if you are starving. The portions are small and expensive, usually one skewer per order. The bill really adds up when you want to try everything… and believe me you will want to try everything.

The skewered meats were absolutely delicious. The American Kobe Beef with black pepper sauce was amazing. The Kohitsuji (lamb) and Jidori Chicken are great options, but by far the biggest sleeper pick for best dish was the Bacon Wrapped Jumbo Shrimp. The chili garlic sauce on it…. I almost wanted to order the left over sauce to-go it was that good.

I was also happy to see that they brought over my favorite specialty roll from Sushi Roku, the White Lotus, with that signature wasabi truffle soy.

Overall it’s a great restaurant, especially if you’re a person who loves sushi and Japanese BBQ. I highly recommend.

Amazing amazing food and customer service, the chef was excellent. Do yourself a favor and order the prime ribeye bulgogi and the lamb chops

A little expensive, but very tasty. Great for a date night. Sea bass skewers were especially tasty.

Excellent sushi, Robata, and light yet highly satisfying small plates. Lovely ambiance and friendly staff. Intimate space, no reservation needed— the perfect place to pop in for drinks & delicious food while in the heart of Santa Monica. Chef István Tóth treated us like family— he is truly the BEST!

Fantastic place for great food and to watch a game. VERY few places in LA where you can watch the Dodgers and have great sushi and robata. The servers and bartenders are amazing and friendly.

Very, very.meh. A total mixed bag of quality and service. We had one good roll, one terrible one, and one that was just ok. Service was hit and miss as well - the host who sat us was not too pleasant (even before he was yelling at guys in the kitchen), but the waitress was attentive and friendly. Atmosphere was also solidly bland. In a nutshell, it wasn't horrendous, but we won't be back.

Excellent atmosphere and very friendly service. The meals were crisp and yummy. Will clearly recommend this spot to friends. Convenient rates and generous portions. Keep up the great work.

Wonderful food. I heard in Tokyo for an hour.if you love yakitori this is the place. Great service and excellent quality of food. Try it!

I get to eat here a lot since I work close by. I must say the customer service is always fantastic and they keep the spot well kept consistently. Pricing is reasonable and they serve sizeable portions.

Very good good. My scallops sushi was fresh and delicious. Yakitori was great. Had duck, sea bass and salmon

So, food is fine, menu format makes no sense. 2 sushi or 4 sashimi? Ummm why not follow industry standard 3?
Also, no sampler menu? I can't get a sashimi sampler? Just seems silly. And nothing to write down.if I'm expected to order multiple things like at a sushi bar, give me the sushi sheet to mark up!
