Saffron - Burlingame reviews
17Food is really good. We liked Bombay sliders, dosa, and desserts a lot. Other appetizers were also good. I got jalfrezi kofta and it was good. My friends loved their butter chicken.
Not a great experience. We didn’t like the food and service is not good and will ignore it.
This is one of the very few high-end Indian restaurants that I absolutely adore! They have done a brilliant job in maintaining the authenticity of the traditional indian flavors while incorporating fun fusional twists to their dishes!
My personal favorites were Amritsari Kulcha, Genovese Basil Dosa and Mango Ginger-Jito.
Definitely call ahead to reserve a table if you’re going in a group setting and expect to be assisted to their outdoor dining setting if you are a group over 4 people.
High end Indian restaurant with quirky menu. Food is absolutely scrumptious and service is great. If you are looking for indian food with a twist, this is the place! Highly recommended.
Bombay sliders and dosa were stars and very amazing. The cocktails aam sutra and others were great too. Main course was okay
Great variety in the menu with interesting dishes from different parts on India, mostly from different states in south India. Flavors of Indian food varies a lot in each region and sub regions. We tried butter chicken (North India) and Madras Dosa (South India) both tasted pretty authentic, which is not easy to pull off in the same restaurant. General Tso's Cauliflower was a very innovative dish with an Indian twist. Ambiance is nice and friendly service. Portions size was OK.
This place is on the pricy side and I get it. What I dont get is why a $30 fish curry or $25 chicken curry dish wouldn't come with a piece of naan or small bowl of rice!? $5 for a small cup of white rice, really?
It was worth a try! As a Michelin star restaurant they meet the good service from the staffs & classy vibe.
They have good options of items on menu worth trying. Coming to the food it was decent and nothing extra ordinary. Malabar Shrimp masala & coconut rice was okay.
The lemonade was bit over priced for $12.
We had 8: 30 reservation but kitchen and bar closed soon after and the waiting staff didn't let us know to take any last orders. They should not taken such late reservations if they can't take orders.
They had no breads except malabar paratha when we went which was a big disappointment. We were informed of this after we already had ordered and had our appetizers so we had no option.
Thyme cocktail was nice.
Food is really good but too expensive.
The creme brulee bread pudding dessert was the highlight of the night, with amazing texture and flavors!
We enjoyed the sliders served with ghee and podi, genovese dosa, Malai kofta and dal makhni. Menu is not very unique or experimental for the price.
I visited this restaurant, the service was great, but the parath bread is not like what is known, it is different and heavy, unlike the original bread, it is light, and the price is exaggerated 40 dollars to reduce the lentils and love it for bread and a glass of juice, the taste was not good
Fried Chicken: the taste is spicy without the sauce. The sauce is sweet, the vegetables under the chicken is salty. You could combine with any of this to get a new taste for the chicken.
Lamb curry: no thing special as other Indian restaurants
Basmati rice: sweet and delectable! recommended!
The only thing I really don’t like (also is the reason why there is only three stars but not five) is the service. There is no greeting when we walk in the restaurant. When we try to get the check, we call the server for three times. But the server is on her phone, and there is no other server near us. Finally we walk to the front service to pay our bill.
Also the food is coming a little bit too slow!
An interesting twist: Indian Street food, cooked upscale! Sure $19 for a dosa, but you are going to love the impeccable cooking, and the ghost chili chutney! The sambar was authentic. For appetizers, try the Bombay peppers, very well made. The prawns are perfect for the person who loves seafood. For dessert we ordered the cardamom bread pudding, but after trying it we wished we ordered the rose Panna cotta. Good service.
We had seven in our party and ordered a lot of dishes. Every dish was amazing. Recommend shrimp masala, kofta curry, cardamom brulee.
Way over priced for food that are cooked in bulk. We asked the waiter if they can make it spicy but was told it's already precooked to make it spicy but they can offer some pepper on side and never said that it will $3.00 extra for pepper. $19.00 for dosa which is ridiculous price. Kingfisher beer was expired and the taste was not there. Overall the food is well over priced for a burlingame zone. Indian restaurants in San Francisco with better ratings are cheaper and have better food that are cooked to order not pre-cooked. Will not recommend this place to any Indian that knows what Indian food should taste and have flavor.
Nice place and great food presentation. Taste itself was disappointing, making this restaurant really overprice. I think they are riding on their reputation…
ODS old Delhi style butter chicken is amazing. It has a great smoke/grill hint combined with very curry with a light hint of sweet and sour, chicken is also very tender,
Lamb curry is not bad but compares to ODS chicken, it's overshadowed.
Mango lassi is ok, added mint, quite refreshing.
Very delicious food, high quality and made to be very picturesque as well. We really enjoyed various curries and the dahi aloo poori:)
I stopped going to this place once the restaurant changed from Rasa to saffron. I visited this place again a few weeks ago when my friends were craving Indian food and it pleasantly surprised me. The curries and the bread were delectable. I'd definitely visit this place again!
