Mexican Restaurant Salazar reviews
18The friends and I had an great experience at Salazar on a Saturday evening before catching a show at Zebulon next door. We ordered and thoroughly enjoyed the Al Pastor (pork) + pescado (beer battered fish) tacos, chips/guac/salsa, and ordered drinks. I loved my Lonely Hearts Club Soda and my friend enjoyed his Prickly Pear, although it was supposed to be slush and came melted instead of slushy. It was a cool outdoor restaurant with a nice atmosphere. I would come back.
Excellent food and just the right portion. I had the ceviche and the scallops. Perfectly done. But the absolute best was the key lime pie. I’ll terrien just for that. The servers were quite attentive and made the experience even better.
I've only been to this place twice, once I ordered tacos they were delicious but very small and expensive 6 or 7 for a taco and the last time I went to that place I ordered a pasture burrito and it had more fat than meat I was disappointed…,
Salsa for the pollo tacos were good with the bold flavor dancing on my tongue (habanero pumpkin seed salsa)
Homemade flour tortillas where perfect in flexibly & strength.
The el pastor taco needed no help it was delicious the guajillo salsa was not spicy at all added nice flavor but I thought it need a hint of a kick to add to the flavor game.
Spiked horchata was decent but wouldn't get it again, although the nuttiness was unique.
Margarita flight was fun, I'm not a mezcal fan but the watermelon Margarita was definitely worth ordering. The gentle sweetness of the watermelon mixed with the smokiness of the mezcal was something special.
Restroom was clean
All seating is outside which is nice when the weather works for ya.
Made reservations for a large party for a Sunday brunch. Table was ready with all the place settings and water set-up upon arrival. All the tables are outside, but they're nicely covered with a metal roof and umbrellas at each table. There's also trees and greenery to provide natural shade and the openness allows a natural breeze.
I believe our server was named Freddy and did a great job taking care of our party of 12. He was very friendly, always ensured glasses were full, and empty dishes removed. We ordered everything family style, so ordered large quantities of everything from appetizers, meals, and desserts. For our drinks, Juston was working the bar and made many creative drinks. We asked him to make some creative drinks and he did not disappoint. He catered to everyone's preferences and every drink was impressive.
All the food was good and served in generous quantities. I personally enjoyed the tacos and churros, but others had their personal favorites. Overall, good food, great drinks, and exceptional service.
My husband just took a much needed break, walked 20 minutes to Salazar to hopefully enjoy some brief solo time with some tacos and margaritas (he was looking forward to this all weekend!), and was promptly turned away at the door because he was a “party of one”. It was 2: 30 in the afternoon and there were at least 20 open seats from what he could see, and he was planning to eat quickly. This is ridiculous. We won’t be back.
Nice place but they sell chips and the menu is not very extensive! I would not return the truth!
The tortillas were amazing they were very soft and melted in your mouth. I got the chicken taco and the fish taco they had amazing flavor! Great place! Highly recommend.
Can’t recommend this spot unfortunately. Below average food, ridiculously overpriced, and spotty service.
We sat for a while before our server noticed us. Throughout the meal got strange cues from him- kept on saying he would bring us water or check on something for us or put in an order and then would come back and be like oh yeah I haven’t done those things yet. Also got part of our order wrong…
Tacos came on cold tortillas and were bland. The chips and salsa were good. Margaritas were okay, but priced like we were at an amusement park. I love the space and atmosphere, but that’s about it.
Unfortunately, my partner and I definitely got food poisoning here on Valentine's Day. Not sure what in particular it was, but we've been sick for three days now.
I was so excited to try Salazar because it looked very cute and is always quite popular. The food was definitely not worth the price, and neither were the drinks. There are so many better options for Mexican food in LA; it's definitely not worth going to Salazar.
Additionally, the most shocking part of our experience is that a person in our group made a point to mention how they were doing dry January and ordered a nonalcoholic beverage. The beverage came spiked, smelling so strongly of tequila. This is especially alarming because people who are sober/not drinking should not be accidentally given alcohol.
Served me meat, as a vegan. No apology, no offer to take it off the bill. Then to add insult to injury, 15 mins to correct my order - which was just a burrito that’s probably made from pre-made ingredients.
Awful and $130 for the privilege.
High crime neighborhood no warning from management that my vehicle would be broken into. Security guard was sitting around and told me that it’s not his job. I had valuables taken from my vehicle while dinning at Salazar. The next day I returned during daylight hours to see broken glass everywhere and a local told me that this is a regular occurrence. Management doesn’t care and you will be charged top dollar to dine here in the GHETTO. Shame on you guys for not addressing this issue and looking after your patrons. We Will never return. Dine somewhere that is concerned with your safety and security. Don’t support establishments that are negligent and bait you into an active crime area without warning.
RIP Salazar. Not sure if it’s new management or if they’re juicing profits. Food and service used to be great.
They replaced their homemade chips with Costco chips, $16 guac was just a clump of avocado, meat was dry, quesadilla wasn’t fully cooked. Server took our appetizer order and then forgot about us. $100 for a borderline bad meal for 2 people.
Sad to see it go. RIP.
I decided to make takeout—the worst decision of my trip. I showed up only to be told my order wasn't ready; when the host checked with the kitchen, they explained it would be ten more minutes (mind you, I was parked illegally because there's minimal parking in the area). When I asked if they could call to let me know when the order was complete, as I wanted to keep an eye out for my rental, they said they didn't have a phone. What restaurant doesn't have a phone? I showed up after 10 minutes, and the bag that tried to hand me with the name Emily was, in fact, mine. I asked if the food was still hot, and they assured me it was. The food was cold, hard, and salty—a waste of money and time. The rice was super salty and the tacos were so cold. I do not recommend take-out!
Okay vegan restaurant tacos with average service and food. The food was alright, the only thing that was delicious were the taquito appetizers. The tacos were okay, not bad not good, too many toppings and not enough flavor which made it overpriced. The service was okay, our table didn't get much attention throughout our dining experience. Maybe the cocktails would've been good but this isn't a bar so i didn't try any. Wouldn't come here again or recommend it.
Their chef made it really far on The Final Table show. Really tasty tacos, superb drinks in a vibrant, fun setting.
Great Mexican food. Pricey but tasty. Great outdoor seating area and wide selection of drinks at the bar. Can get packed so call ahead to make a reservation.
