San Diego Children's Discovery Museum reviews
17 It was a rainy day and our kids were getting restless in the hotel so we looked for something for them to do. We found this museum. When we arrived, my kids seemed skeptical but they loved it so much. They went outside to play when it wasn't raining but played inside when it was. There is a section for kids 2 and under which my boy loved but there is a lot more to do for older kids.
My recommendation age group is 1 to 10.
Lovely play place where kids can touch everything. Small area for ages 2 and under a well. Plant watering, blocks, arts and crafts, water and sand play and more! Only$2 for a child. Great deal!
This is a fun museum. The staff are nice. There was little to no wait. There is an inside portion as well as an outside area. They have a vast amount of things to do & look at as well as many activities for young kids. There are also workshops and art projects that are fun for little ones. I would recommend spending at least a couple of hours here as there are many self-directed activities as well as fun workshops and art projects available. There is definitely an emphasis on education and a lot to discover. Solid museum. It's not too pricey. Lots of fun. The food situation is pretty limited, but there are options inside as well as in the immediate area. Fun for adults as well. Thank you.
I was really excited to bring my 14 month old here but after coming a few times, I realized they don’t enforce the rule of only having kids under age 2 in the toddler area, even though a sign is posted. I finally talked to the front desk about this and they confirmed for me that they try to enforce it but really don’t. Asked for a refund for my membership because I’m not going to drive all the way here to not be guaranteed a safe place for my toddler to play that is separate from the bigger kids. Disappointed.
Fun experience for the kids. They did not want to leave. Little ones will really like this place!
A small children's museum but it has tons of fun activities and toys for kids to wander around. It is designed for smaller aged kids, e.g. Toddlers. There are both indoor and outdoor areas. The toys are well organized, being constantly maintained by staff. We have enjoyed every minute of our visit!
Fun little place for 4 and under. Spent 3+ hours here one morning. Fun little manipulative to play and learn. Big spaces for kids to roam. Play kitchen, science area, giant chalkboard, pirate ship to play on, outdoor lego waterfall area, hula hoops, herb garden and more! Worth the price for a morning worth of fun! Def want to pack a lunch to bring and eat there! (Nut free place)
We loved this place! There was so much to see and do. The educational sessions and activities were very involving for the kids and they loved it. There was story time, science, time and craft time. Generally and great place to take kids to have fun! See attached pictures!
Found this gem while on vacation while our toddler was going stir crazy. By the time we left it was getting very busy and a little cramped, but getting there at opening gave us a good two hours of play (both inside and out) that our daughter absolutely loved (as soon as you thought you saw everything, you found another little area that had more to do). As a three year old, her one complaint was that she was too big for the toddler area and thus couldn't go use the slide in that gated off area. She definitely has been begging to go back, though!
Great place to visit they had the highschool robot team there my son got to drive it lots of activities
Totally awesome, fun place! The staff go above and beyond to make your visit fun, memorable and educational. My granddaughters LOVE visiting! The Chicken Chat was so much fun. Lots of fun activities! Love love love.
It’s all about role play! My kids (8,6,4 yo) loved this place! They can be a doctor, an archeologist, a farmer, a gardener, a chef, a pilot… and they can play with blocks, magna-tiles, metal wall! So much fun for kids!
Obviously busy on Fridays.
Age 6 and under, and the young at heart. Great practice for sharing and good manners.
Fun to be had all over the place!
The membership is a great deal.
Many discounts as well.
Event days for older.
Well constructed activities.
It is a free-for-all mostly with events at certain times.
They are organized with a color coded system to see the interactive activities.
Staff need more training when it comes to costumer service. The other day there was a mobile museum at the park and my kids and I approached to them to ask if there was an event for that since there was literally no people at all but them, they just ignored us and kept on packing up because I guess there were so really ready to go. It could’ve been a little bit of courteously by just explaining what it was since it’s a public place of service for the kids to entertain in. Never going to that place.
Good place to bring the kids for hands on learning. Nice and comfortable and not overcrowded, very safe for all kids. Outside area is awesome! Kids love the wind tunnel!
Update 2022: we continue to love this place, kids want to explore every little detail available. They have great crafts that include science. You need to go! They have changed the layout, new pictures included.
This place is great! My son loves absolutely every activity there. I only give a three star review because last time we were there, a kid bumped into my toddler and my son fell and hit his face on the edge of one of the chairs that were misplaced. He has a bruise still three weeks later. Their staff should may be be on the look out or place signs to not move the chairs. Apart from this incident, it’s a really great place.
A little place to keep kids engaged for some time. Best ages of kids to enjoy this place are 1 year to 5 year old. I would call it not a discovery museum but a nice and interesting indoor and outdoor playground with different activities.
Great stuff!
It seemed a bit dusty to me. Some activities were old and needed good cleaning.
