Dr serota is direct and to the point. I have been seeing him for way over a year first my left knee then my right hip.when I first went to him I was a 48 bmi and he told me your to heavy for surgery get to a 40 bmi and ill be able to help you. I was at a 41 bmi and he said ok let's get started. We'll I have hip replacement surgery the 21st. He walked me through it and im very pleased with his help.
I also want to do a shout out to ROSE the surgery coordinator she is so busy but she makes time to help you with all the processes you have to get through

Dr. Burneilk, has always been very professional…. And takes the time to explain the issue that is @ hand. He has made his- self available. I have never any complaints about him. He is a very good orthopedic’s doctor. And I would recommend anybody to him.

I love this Dr. His staff is professional and nice. Not too bad a wait. He is a honest Dr. That gives it to you straight, I appreciate that. If I have to have surgery, I trust him to do the absolute best for me.

My experience with Dr. Burnikel was great! My grievances are with the front staff and assisting staff. My initial request for an appointment to see a physician after a visit to the emergency department (with a torn ACL). I was given an appointment a month and a half later. I vocalized my concerns regarding the urgency of my injury and the receptionist was quite dismissive of my situation. Additionally, another speedbump in trying to schedule an appointment, another receptionist stated they needed my X-Rays from Grossmont Hospital to proceed in scheduling, even though they already my MRI/X-rays from a prior visit to a different orthopedic surgeon. I later found out that SDSM share a network with Grossmont Hospital and had access to my imaging as soon as they were taken! This delayed my appointment window even further! Now, a year post-surgery I still haven't fully recovered (I understand that ACL reconstructive surgery is not an easy procedure to recover from, even for professional athletes, but not 16-20 month recovery period). Numerous times I heard Dr. Burnikel state that if I had gotten in earlier to see him I would be in better shape than I am now. Currently, my battle is with the insurance company for more physical therapy (it's been almost 2 weeks post appointment and his PA/MA haven't even put in the request for more PT) that I desperately need to get back to any resemblance of normalcy. I've held off on writing a review till I was significantly post-op for all fairness, but a year later I'm still encumbered by my experience. Dr. Burnikel 10/10, procedure/bedside manner amazing; everyone else at SDSM dropped the ball significantly throughout my care. 0/10

This was my first time even coming there and I didn't even get a chance to see the doctor I was literally only a couple minutes late I have children I had to pick up from school not just to more than one and my appointment was at 1: 30 and I got there in that office and checked in at 1: 35 and they turned me around real quick didn't even give it a shot or anything just quickly turn me out I will never go to this place for what they did to me I have never in my life have ever been turned away to reschedule an appointment that fast in my life this was my very first time I have experienced this ever i dont want to go to this place ever such horrible receptionist

If i can give more stars i would the staff is just so kind amazing and welcoming. Dr. Bernikel is just so amazing he explains everything that will be going on. I was terrified it was my 1st surgery the staff and doctor eased and made my surgery a great one.

Great Doctor! Solid medical advice and treatment sprinkled with humor. You will be delighted by the quality of service and professionalism.

Dr Shillito is really great! He was very attentive and explained everything that was going on and my options. He explained all steps that would be taken during surgery which set my mind at ease.
I definitely recommend Dr. Shillito.

Dr Burnikel is great, the administrative management could definitely be improved though. But my knee surgery went well thanks to Dr Burnikel’s advice and expertise!

Went in recently for a knee injury and staff were very friendly and helpful when making my appointment. When I arrived I was greeted cheerfully for checkin and cared for well throughout the entire appointment. Dr. Burnikel was very helpful explaining treatments options for me. Great experience overall.

Took over six weeks to get a hold of them to make an appointment (calling and texting the number on their website, no one texted or called back). I filled out online paperwork and then still got daily texts telling me to fill it out, then they couldn't find it when I got there. Their website said there was a patient portal so I sent a message to the provider and never heard back, then later got an email about their amazing new patient portal. Then they merged or whatever with Synergy and there are two websites so it's confusing. The practice is a disaster basically. The doctor caused nerve damage to my leg doing an EMG and said it was "unlucky, but the nerves would probably repair themselves". They referred me to another synergy provider for an epidural injection and they called me two days before to tell me the doctor wasn't on my insurance so I had to cancel (it varies by doctor apparently). I moved and tried to get my records sent to a new provider so I filled out the medical records request form on their website, then I got an email saying the request was closed and then it said they moved it to their new system, then I got a bill for $63 when there was no indication it would cost money. Total disaster of a practice and the merger isn't helping anything. That isn't even all of my complaints. I accomplished nothing by going there like 5 times.

Its is so hard to get a hold of anyone, I get sent to VM or just hung up on any time I call

First time seeing him seem to be a cool gentleman, regardless of him being cool, I just want my hands properly done
That was the first time I seen him I just seen him on August 2. I love this guy.
