We visit San Diego every few years from Ontario, Canada. We go to the zoo every time. Clean well cared for and lots to see. A truly great relaxing place to visit and so many amazing inhabitants to see.
It is a must for travellers to visit. You will not be disappointed.

Fern Canyon Trail provides many amazing views as you criss-cross three separate concrete bridges from a series of stairs between each bridge.
Numerous wild birds, squirrels, and birds are often visible.

Many of the larger animals were transferred to the safari 30 miles away since their habitats were being remodeled.

I loved it, little loud, but still fun. Lot of exhibits missing or under construction rn tho. Hippos were moved, along with multiplayer monkey types, and the Avery is not built yet.

This zoo makes me wish I lived in San Diego. This maybe the best zoo in USA. 70 degrees in January was awesome, and made all of the walking tolerable. We will be back!

Great spot, lots to do and see. Plenty of Ev charging. Full day park with all the animals and attractions. Also close by a great park.

It was a great visit with the kids, and all the photos turned out great, especially since the weather was nice.

You have to love the zoo! The koalas, the big cats, the aardvark, the elephants, the baby bears, penquins, rare birds, plant life and so much more!
It was a beautiful day in San Diego and the zoo is a must see. We took advantage of items included with your admission such as the mini bus tour, the kangaroo bus transportation and the sky tram, but mostly it's great to walk around and observe the amazing wildlife. I was impressed by the efforts of the zoo to provide what appears to be suitable habitats and the proper environment for these wonderful creatures. Take in all you can as there is so much to see and much to learn. There were a few areas under construction, but hardly noticeable as you take in the vast area of the park. We have heard the safari is a great option and plan to check it out on a future visit. For our initial visit we wanted to walk throughout the zoo at our own pace. The walking is up and down hill, while our biggest challenge, to be honest.was dodging the hundreds of strollers. While also fun to watch the excitement of kids seeing some of these animals for the first time.
The shops, restrooms and food/drink stands with tables and seating placed throughout the park, provide opportunities to take breaks during your stay. Pace yourself and allow most of the day to experience as much as you can. Have fun and support the San Diego zoo!

Love going to the SD Zoo! The free access to different types of trams and the skytram makes it super easy to get around the park. Enjoy the pics.

I've grown up going to the San Diego Zoo and it is one of the best places in the city to visit, either as a tourist or local. Tons of animals to see, great for all ages, and it has an amazing focus on education & conservation.

Try to avoid going on holiday weekends, or you might get stuck in traffic and difficult parking availability.

This is a world class zoo where they do extensive research, conservation, and education. Any age can enjoy something here. Most of the zoo is mobility accessible. This zoo is enormous and basically sits on the side of a mountain. There are elevators thru out the park. We could not see and experience everything there was to offer in one day here. We only had one day but made the most of what we wanted to experience. They provide a physical map, or you can download the app. Running the app seemed to run my phone battery down more quickly. There's a free bus tour that drives thru the zoo with high lights. I recommend getting to the zoo at opening and hopping on the bus tour first. There's also a free sky lift that will take you from one part of the zoo to the other. This gives a grand view of how really enormous this zoo is. There are plenty of restrooms thru out the park. Much of the animals spend much of the time resting, so you may not get to see every animal. All the animals are well taken care of. Tickets are expensive but really support the animals. Not only are the animals protected, and some are endangered, but the zoo is home to protected and endangered plants. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. We went on a Friday in winter and it was very busy. There are plenty of food options here, along with gift shops. Parking is free.

I'm a zookeeper from Germany, and if there's a zoo you should see, it's this one.
I was lucky enough to get to know some of the employees and I have to say that only professionals who put their hearts into what they do work here.
Absolutely recommended, oh yes, parking is free by the way.

Said my guest pass was invalid and a copy which was completely incorrect. I was there when my friend received it. They claimed that my friend needed to be there which is also incorrect, as that is not stated on the complimentary pass. They will not be renewing their membership, and I was lucky to have a half off ticket as well which was the only reason I went. Why do you promise false things in your membership packages?

Get there early as it get very crowded by late morning. The zoo is beautiful and there are so many spectacular animals to see. Be prepared for a lot of walking

I visited as part of a industry convention. Our group had an encounter session with several animals with lunch. All of the handlers were knowledgeable and engaged in the animals and education of the group.

We were only given a small window to see the rest and took the double-decker tour to see what we could. The driver was knowledgeable and funny at the same time. She was really good at getting us good photo angles when possible.
