We’ve stayed here a couple of times while traveling on CA’s scenic Hwy-1. There’s nothing really special about it, other than it’s strategic location. Staff are pleasant enough, and facilities are adequate (tho you need tokens for the showers, and FYI: one token is enough for a full length shower). Consider crashing here if you need a dump station, water, or a shower, otherwise find a nice pullout along the highway and enjoy the viewscape.

This was avery nice campground. The bathrooms and showers were nice, but a bit dark because there are no lights. It was a bit loud the second night we were there, and the sites are close together.

Campground clean. Clean showers and restrooms. You can hear the waves crashing the shoreline at night. Also, the hwy 1 is right by the campsite. You can hear the cars go by. Don't mistake the sounds of the waves hitting the shoreline, and the cars go by at night. We would love to camp there again. Very short walk to the beach.

Great camp ground with an excellent camp host that sells wood. There are stores near by if you need ice or other supplies. We went end of June early July and it was cold and well because of the fog that rolled in. Make sure to pack accordingly because the weather here is a little different than the surrounding area.

If you are looking for peace and quiet this is not the place to relax. We stayed in site 96 and we were inside the loop. All the campers next to us were partying constantly, yelling, kids running through our site, just very messy. The sites were over crowded with more than 4 tents per site. Not private at all. There was trash in our site, bottle caps, napkins… I think the administration could do better to maintain the place. Restrooms were ok. Dump station is $10 even if you stayed in the park.

It's a wild place. Kids running around everywhere. Family fun. Clean bathrooms.
Only concern is the children aren't looking at where they are going and run right in front of cars on foot.bikes and scooters. Be careful as you drive through the park.

We got GREAT spot for tents and trailers. Was mad I chose from the map thinking I chose the very end but apparently I read the map wrong and chose the very front but we got great big area with huge tree covered flat tent area. Our kids were super happy! Just wish they had water spouts closer together. Not sure why but our shower door was locked? Hoping it gets opened in the morning.

Beautiful location. Many other campgrounds and attractions in the area are closed due to storm damage over last winter. Managed to find a spot here, but as I was sitting in the car alone a solo man in a not-so-great car with tshirts or something over the windows came up to my window and started asking questions.it appears he wanted a closer look at me and maybe what was in the car (?). I say this because of the comment he was saying that didn't add up. For instance, he was sitting there trying to get wifi, but then stayed he was watching me/us talk with the ranger and pull over, etc. Told me where his site was and asked a bunch of personal questions. As a result, we didn't stay the night. Note: PCH is closed at limekiln and you cannot get through north or southbound = you must go around adding around six plus hours of detour. Wish I had known beforehand. Also, closest "real" grocery market is in Cambria.

Great location. Plenty of bathrooms. Very open campground, definitely not private. Lots of campfires burning and the area doesn't seem to get much of a breeze to clear out the smoke. Just a few minute walk to the beach.

RV dump station is a card vending machine, $10, quite convenient.payment unlocks the cap on the sewer line.potable water station is separate and free, a few yards away. California quail like to tiptoe near the roads. Swallows nest under the roof of the rangers' residence by the dump station.steel fire pit at each RV campsite.kids loved smores.

IMHO this beautiful beach campground is going the way of so many other California state parks where rules enforcement, camp etiquette and maintenance have substantially deteriorated. The upper campground is barren, dusty, unpaved and potholed. We spent a week at lower Space 57 which is paved, a bit tight but private and well distanced from the sounds of Highway 1. We enjoyed the boardwalk hike to the undeveloped and storm battered beach and several visits to town. Sadly, the camp trees and weeds had invaded the sites, impeding roof clearance and the paved pad. Generators running at 07: 00 and barking dogs and “music” throughout the days just seemed inconsiderate. On several instances during the week, snarling and aggressive dogs sent terror through us simply taking a walk. The unleashed dogs at campsites were at least unpredictable but could be a real danger. One huge rotweiller actually snapped a 20 foot long cable by charging the street at a full run. The owner had obviously dealt with prior snarling aggression but had no apologies for us. The park ranger (who I saw only one time all week) should get out of the truck to observe these dogs, hear the generators and get the general noise dialed back. Our visit was about 50% capacity. After Memorial Day and through summer I cannot imagine what it will be.

Nice park, reasonable price. You sleep near the sea and many places are surrounded by grass and trees.

Big disappointment for so close to Hearst Castle and name attached to it.price doesn't make sense pay for dump, showers, and ground s are not kept.

We went on a 4 day camping trip at San Simeon and we had a great time! I'm knocking out a star since our campsite, upperground C29, could be better maintained. First, the incline wasn't reflected as well on the photos so we were surprised and had a dilemma where to best set up the tent. The incline felt steep for a tent on most parts and we kept sliding down everytime we slept. Second, there was a lot of holes on the ground as well. Some holes were overgrown with grass and hard to see, I almost sprained my ankle tripping in one. Third, the firepit was rusted with a lot of holes and we couldn't use the grate that goes over it since that was completely rusted as well. Otherwise, the bathrooms and showers were well maintained, it was a relief to use clean, flushing toilets while out camping (a crew came out every morning to clean it). Remember to bring hand soap since they don't have any! My only gripe about it was the hot water and hot showers never worked.: (Nothing like a 5 minute icy shower in 50F weather to wake you up! The trails around the campground were well maintained. There was a liquor store 5 minutes away to buy anything you forgot at home, plus ice and firewood. We really enjoyed ourselves here and the views (we could see the ocean) and nature (we woke up everyday to amazing bird calls) was amazing. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!

Location was great, only minutes to Moonstone Beach and Cambria. However, the sites are very old and small. Our 30ft trailer barely fit onto one of the larger sites. Also, the grounds were the worst kept of all the state park campgrounds we have visited on the Pacific coastline. The grass was knee-high through the entire park. Felt bad for all the tenters. Bathrooms were basic and functional. Showers are coin operated so we passed. Disappointing given the recommendations we had received. Too bad there are no other options in the area. They would do extremely well given the popularity and beauty of the area.
