Don't be fooled by the name, this is a Thai restaurant.
Apparently the name goes back thirty or forty years and they've just kept it.

In any event the food here is wonderful and I go just about every week. Their kha na moo krob (crispy pork w Chinese broccoli) is the best I've had in the city. The pork is cooked perfectly - it's crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Most places either get it too crispy and dried out or there's no crispiness to it at all. Here, They nailed it like Goldilocks!

They also have an array of authentic dishes like boat noodle soup and yen ta fo, meanwhile they do some cool trendy modern stuff like drunken noodles, but with spaghetti noodles like you might get on a street corner in Thailand.

Super cool unassuming place. Ya gotta go kid.

We’re traveling here. Dinner time but there’s no customers in the restaurant and I still give it a try. The owner kicked out us because of our 5lb dog which is esd and trained. And then he said there was no service dog license in LA! Wow good to know. Good luck with your business.

Wish I could remember the account I watched on Instagram about Anthony Bourdain's travel into Thai Town Los Angeles. I knew I'd be in the area for a few days so I was excited to add Sapp Coffee House and their infamous boat noodles on my must try list. I've had a ton of Thai food in my life but boat noodles were never on my go to list. Instead, it would be the papaya salad, kao ka moo, laap/larb and even Sai Ua. I'm all for trying new food but I was a bit hesitant, yes, I have a Filipino background so one would think dinuguan which contains pig's blood and the same secret ingredient in boat noodles actually the traditional version contains cow blood, nonetheless same same? I guess I expected a really sour taste but it was quite the opposite, it was savory, spicy with the most amazing aroma.
Got #2 Boat Noodles, "Beef & Everything" Rice noodles with Sapp Boat broth, sliced beef, beef meatballs, tendon, beef tripe, beef liver, bean sprouts and crispy pork grinds. The mix of everything beef was great, I don't always do liver but I appreciated the flavor it brought with a few bites same with the tendon and tripe and just like that I am left with the rest, sliced beef and meatballs. You have to eat it fast and with every bite get some of that delicious crispy pork grinds! Initially, I asked for non-spicy/mild and it wasn't spicy at all so I added chili flakes from our condiments on the table and dang it got hot!
I would recommend this dish if you aren't afraid to eat something delicious, savory, spicy, new, aromatic, well worth the stop!

Wanted to try Sapp’s in the summer but it was during a major heatwave and when we arrived they alerted us that several blocks just lost power and they’d have to close down. But their remorse over something out of their control and eagerness to invite us back made it easy to see why Sapp’s positive reputation was deserved. So when we returned recently to finally try their offerings, we were welcomed to some of super tasty Thai food. We had the boat noodles with beef, jade noodles, crab fried rice and Chinese broccoli with salted fish. Sure the decor and the space Sapp’s occupies isn’t the sexiest but it matters not because of the deliciousness they offer. Looking forward to trying more of the menu.

Very tasty and definitely the name of the place Saap is an accurate description of the restaurant. In Thai Saap means strong flavor! My boat noodles were amazing.

Ordered Jade Noodles for pickup and drove away only to find out that I did not get any condiments, so needless to say the dish was very bland. Check your bag before you leave.

This place has amazing boat noodle. It is hard to distinguish which top ones are better but Sapp win by the amount. Definitely to go place for Thai boat noodle in LA!

Great service, food excellent. Little on the sweet side for my taste but you can ask for no sugar.

Sapp Coffee shop is on many people's must eat places in LA! We knew we had to try it when we were visiting LA.

We went on a weekday afternoon and were able to get seats without a wait which was great.

This place has many unique and delicious Thai dishes you won't find anywhere else!
The service was great and was warm and friendly. Thank you for your hospitality and generosity.

I am used to spicy foods and they have spicy and Bangkok spicy. I tried spicy and that was some fire. I recommend you start with mild and level up because their spice level is the truth.

We got lucky and scored a limited edition Thai new year Sapp shirt too! Woohoo!

We will definitely be going back and trying all the dishes we didn't get to try this visit.

Thank you!

Pro tip - Go for breakfast and beat the crowd! I dined at 8: 30 am on a Sunday and found it to be one of the best Thai meals I've ever eaten. I spoke with one of the family members who owns the place, and he gave me the back story about why their name included "coffee shop" (it goes back to their origin of being located in a hotel lobby, and the hotel made them serve coffee in the morning). Very friendly and hospitable! The setting isn't much to write home about. Very much a "joint" feel. That adds to the whole experience I think.

I ordered the Jade Noodles and the Pad Kra Prao at the owner's suggestion. So grateful I didn't just order the Pad Thai. He mentioned that the Kra Prao is actually one of the more popular street dishes in Thailand, not the Pad Thai. The Jade Noodles were so tasty, mainly because the flavor was subtle and refreshing.

This place is worth the trip out of your own LA neighborhood

Their jade noodles is the best. The taste is pretty authentic. The portion is big as well.

Staff is great. Still one of the best. Love the boat noodles with everything… hearty comfort food at its finest. Drunken Pasta noodles w pork, lettuce, tomatoes … very nice. And the Pad Kra Pao, prolly the most comfort Thai dish of them all (even for Thai people), was great… got it without the egg to mix it up.

Down-to-earth Thai eatery focusing on comfort "single dish" staples. It's becoming my new favorite spot to grab a simple lunch that puts a smile on my face and reminds me of home.

While an unassuming interior, the food at Saap is incredibly delicious. I recommend the jade noodle and the boat noodle. Service is quick and efficient. I saw one review note that they were cash only, but they may have updated their policy as they accepted our card just fine. I would highly recommend a visit for any Thai food enthusiasts, this will be one of our new go-to spots.
