Schmidt's Pub / Schmidt’s Tobacco and Trading Co. reviews
16Great pub and basic tobacco selection, esp for rollies and pipes. Small outdoor covered patio for smoking. Indoor is very cozy though a bit cold, and a great front patio when weather is nice. Service is gruff and cold, and offputting. Live music on occasion is great. Love the books and comfy armchairs.
Best place to grab a beer, a smoke, and play a game. Or you can hang out inside and work. Cash only folks!
Feels more like a house than a bar. Historic photographs and fine art decorate the walls. The furniture is reminiscent of a rennesaince saloon. Unique beer selections as well, I had an English imported Porter.
Great place, especially if you're the smoker friendly type. Good (if quite pricey) cigar selection. Roll your own (cigarettes) for 75 cents. And good prices on good beer. I could easily spend an entire day here.
Old house on Solano turned into a comfortable space to have a beer and a smoke (a pub)! Games and tobacco old school! I like it!
Good beer, comfy and conversational atmosphere. Nice selection of smokes and love the outdoor seating.
A Solano institution, The Pub (yeah, it's "Schmidt's Pub" for real, but I've never heard it said out loud) is a Pub. With a capital P, Pub. Not a bar. Not a "Publik House" riff playing for authentic by design. Rather, it's what a Pub is when the house is the public's shared parlor. The place for a smoke, a happy dog or two, and a pint worth drinking slowly. Slowly, because you are amongst friends.
Rare for a pub to have such a strong identity. Chill vibe, steadfast avoidance of wifi and credit cards, eclectic clientele, dogs, tobacco and music mingling with the beer. This was my favorite place to be in Berkeley while living there. They also allow outside food. Suggested pairing: kimbop from Bowl'd across the street, plus a Guinness or Old Speckled Hen and a bag of salt & vinegar chips.
A great place to hang out, read, do any kind of stuff you want to do on your computer, and some nice wine or beer, no food, but a great environment
Cool vibes with a mixed bag of nuts showing up. Artists, engineers, millennials, generation x, and baby boomers combined all congregated to enjoy the tobacco, the beer or other alcohols. Some snacks are sold like candy and chips. My half pint of Sauvignon Blanc was only $5.50.
There's indoor and outdoor seating. Indoors you're surrounded by cool relics from eras gone and there's also a deck out front with string lights surrounding umbrellas. Cute.
The Pub is a great place to have a pint, smoke a cigarette, and just hang out. Play a game with your friends, read a book, or just chat with folks. This is a no pretentions place. Don't expect the game to be on, though.
Great local pup in the classic sense "public house". Good for hanging out with a pipe or cigar, a beer, and nice conversation.
Always good beer and nice price. Great outdoor seating, for those who enjoy tobacco - since the 1980s
A great relaxing environment. Awesome knowledgeable staff on local brewed beers. Also a lot of great tobacco types to choose from. The seating areas are comfortable and arranged to engage others visiting. I ended up staying for 4 hours because the groups I sat with kept changing and the conversations interesting.
Wonderful establishment that's been serving excellent beers in a mega-relaxed environment for 20+ years
