I’ve always been happy with Scripps and I was once a patient at this hospital and the treatment and everyone I encountered were wonderful. Recently my friend had the have her mother admitted for a severe infection the same day her father died. The social services department on the second floor is horrible! They called her mother a charity case twice, told my friend to sell her house to care for her mother and basically because she needs long term care there’s no place for her to go. Her mother needs 24/7 care giving because she is not able to walk or sit in a wheelchair and her father was the caregiver.
Apparently the social services dept contacted “6 pages of facilities and every single of them said no the will not take her. ”
So basically the hospital have to discharge her even if there isn’t a safe place for her to go.
DO NOT take your elderly parent or friend to this hospital especially on the second floor where Teresa is or they’ll be out on the street!

My good friend has nothing but good things to say about the treatment she's been receiving there. Clean, professional, calming, and caring.

Took mom to Scripps emergency she walked by herself to the emergency, doctor ordered a MRI and some other tests, waiting at the emergency to find out what was the problem with her, it was almost four hours at the emergency still waiting for a doctor to come and tell us about the results, nobody showed up until 7: 30 PM.
Finally a nurse came in and she said that mom was admitted at the hospital.
Ask the nurse what happened to the doctors?
She responded everybody is busy somebody will come, it was past 11: 15 PM finally went to the nurse station told her that I am leaving the hospital and still do not know what happened to my mother no doctor visit no tests results finally a jonior doctor showed up and told me that mom had a stroke.
She was feeling better and getting stable for couple of days until the day she went through brain scan with contrast, following her scan she had a massive stroke since then she is paralyzed completely on left side and lost her speech.
The only doctors that I met at Scripps were hospitalists even those young doctors were replacing by new one every single week.it has been 3 weeks still trying to get hold a cardiologist and neurologist.
Hospital is understaffed, management is below standard of any hospital in San Diego.
Not happy with My mom’s care, several time requested for a patient transfer to the Palomar hospital finally decided to file a complain with CEO office and mentioned about what happened the night that she had a brain scan, my mom was screaming from sharp headache and heart pain and charge nurse and her assitant were so indifferent to her and wanted her to take a medication.
I was hearing her crying over the phone and she was asking to call a doctor but charge nurse ignored her request and mine.

It has been a horrific experience and I feel guilty to bring my dear mom to this place.
One night her food tray was on the table for over two hours in front of her because there were short of staff to feed her, she was so hungry could not wait to have her dinner.
A nurse came to the room and ask my disabled brother to feed my mom, imagine he is on walker and can not stand on his feet.
This is the extend of the care at this hospital, do not recommend this hospital to anybody, stay away from this place.

I never had an issue with Scripps before, but because of the shabby treatment by the social worker, Theresa on the second floor where my elderly mother is currently being treated, I have to write this review. My mother is legally deaf since the age of 10 and is bedridden. My mothers caregiver at home was my father, and he just passed away, My mother was taken to the hospital with a severe infection that same day. My mother has no caregiver at home, and requires 24/7 care. This particular social worker told me twice that my mother is a charity case (because she has medi-cal) and needs to leave the hospital. To get her out of the hospital, this social worker said I could sell my house to pay for her care (even though my mother has insurance), and if I could not get her out of the hospital now, the hospital would bill my mother’s family (a threat to me), and I confirmed this statement is not true, yet Theresa told me that their financing department does this ALL THE TIME to families. The next thing Theresa told us to get my mother out of the hospital, was that the hospital (only) would deem it safe to release my mother to relatives, and release her. Another threat meaning they would force release my mother, (and FORCE ME to take on her 24/ 7 care). WHAT? I don’t think so. My mother has a RIGHT to sign off on her release plan only when SHE believes it is reasonable. They want to send a bedridden, deaf, totally incapacitated 85 year old with no family able to take care of her, home? This was said as a threat to me, and like my mother has no right to reject a release plan which she believes is dangerous. Next move by the social worker was to tell me that, because my mother is a charity case, she has to take the very first bed available, (even if she deems the facility to be unsafe?). I don’t think so. My mother has the RIGHT to reject a facility that she deems unsafe. Where does Theresa get the idea that my mom is a charity case who deserves no rights?
I’ve never been treated so poorly by a Scripps facility until my mother was admitted here.

Yesterday I fell down at shower, Called 911.my entire right body hurts very badly. After 2 hours at the bed in hallway a nurse came, She is a young Asian lady, came to my face and asked why are you hear? I saw you before. I said yes, I came here a year ago for corona. She came to my ear and yield at me, do you want to see a doctor? I said of course, she said you have to wait for hours to see a doctor. I said Im in such a pain and this bed is not comfortable, she again came to my face and said you have to wait for hours. I was frightened by her. I called my son to pick my up. Then I called the hospital to report her but they hung up on me. I called again to find out her name but again they hung up.

Had a pretty bad experience THIEVES at their best! On Friday 2/17 after undergoing surgery and ready to be released, one of the nurses (female) all excited asked me if my Hoka sneakers were comfortable because apparently they were 'a sensation' at that facility as everyone there was going crazy wanting to own a pair.
Well, I guess somone now owns my sneakers! I was released the same day and did not realize that my brand new sneakers were missing from my belongings bag until the following day. Everything else that was in the same bag was returned except my pair of shoes cause I left the facility with hospital socks.
I called the following day and spoke with security and the guy tells me there is no lost and found and apparently he went and looked and didn't find them. He basically told there was nothing he could do because there was nothing there anymore.
So my question is: Why would someone take advantage of a patient under anesthesia and steal their shoes? This is so pathetic!
Please make sure you hire trustworthy nurses as this clearly indicates this may not be the first time this has happened.
*UPDATE: 2/21and I still have not even received a call from the hospital to at least give me an update on that happened at their facility.
*UPDATE: 2/23, two days ago a response from the Scripps hospital was entered as a review response asking for me to provide them with my contact information to follow up on the issue. I followed their instructions on that same day and up to this moment, no one has attempted to contact me.

My daughter had the best care from nurse Brielle in Labor and Delivery today. Absolutely the best care, compassion and love. Definitely 5 star care! Thank you Brielle we appreciate you.

This is worst than Tri-city! I live 4 min away from tri city and de used to come here because service is better and faste. We been here 5hrs and still no call, they told my Dad they will give pain medication while he waited and nothing yet been 2 hrs waiting for that medication. Very unprofessional.

I had a procedure done in the interventional radiology department, super professional team, kind, caring and some of the best care ever. I’ve had plenty of other health experiences to compare this one to and again the care, organization was top notch!

Scripps is the very best medical service I have ever received. I am so grateful to all the staff here and do not trust any other medical facility to care for me or my daughter. I have been admitted twice to this hospital and was back in the ER today for my condition. Rather than the doctor choosing a treatment plan, he contacted my Scripps Specialist in La Jolla and they collaborated and developed a plan to make me feel better before I could go see my specialist tomorrow. Nurse Heather was an absolute sweetheart and treated me with kindness and compassion.
Thank you Scripps staff for your amazing care, empathetic hearts, and treating me like family.not just a patient.

Must be white or asian to get service here. Been here in pain for 8 hours, no one cared not even offered or allowed any pain relief. Completely ignored and snubbed. This used to be a great place. Not anymore. Extremely Disappointed! Shame on you!

This is the absolute worst hospital in all of the U. S. I would not have my pets seen here. The nurses are rude the doctors are complacent. The pharmacy is oblivious as well. Just the absolute worse. I rather go to and inner city facility then be seen by these people. Worst experience ever. If I could give a zero star rating that’s what they would get.

I recently delivered my first baby here. I had to be induced due to a preeclampsia; thus, I was very scared and anxious, but everyone made me feel very comfortable. Nurses were very kind and helpful. I deeply appreciate what everyone did for me and my baby. A special shout-out to nurse Rachael and Dr. Robin E Wood, who literally saved my life. I would definitely recommend this hospital and consider it for future deliveries.

While the medical staff is truly top notch - bring your own food. The in house food serv is incompetent at best and deadly as a norm … I am ordering pizza to my isolation room

My daughter was treated in Labor and Delivery today. Carolyn was beyond amazing. Her bedside manner was so kind and peaceful while she took on the role of detective to help determine what might be wrong with my daughter. I’m sure she is a role model and mentor to everyone on her team. The team was very supportive throughout. I can’t say enough about our experience in Labor and Delivery at Scripps Encinitas. And, thank you Carolyn for all of your expertise! Wow!

Specifically went here instead of Tri-City (which is much closer) because I've always had great experiences with Scripps Urgent Care. Well, that was a mistake.

They treated me awful, RN messed up the IV line causing severe pain and didn't bother apologizing. I never found out who my doctor was until I was given my discharge papers because he never introduced himself or even had a name tag on (Dr. Matthew Ahern) ; he could have been the janitor for all I know. Had no interest in figuring out why I was unwell and sent me home ASAP even though there were zero patients in the ER.

Was lied to and told my EKG was normal (it's not), and my labs are normal (they indicated an ongoing infection).

Ended up in Urgent Care the next day confirmed bronchitis, and got treated like a real human being in the process.

I would not recommend this hospital if you have any other options available. They spent more time helping a drug-seeking alcoholic in the lobby than someone suffering from heat exhaustion, dehydration, and an infection.

My elderly mom was taken here in emergency mode several days ago. I'm not allowed to visit. There is no word from Scripps about her condition. Words do not express my feelings on this situation.

I unfortunately had to go to the hospital because I had a infection on my toe. As soon as I get there Nick Nishijima greeted me with a smile. He was always checking up on me. He did a great job explaining what he was going to do before he did anything. I recommend Scripps to everyone. Thank you again Nick for all you do.

Spent 5 hours here after falling and hitting my head. They were amazing considering EVERY ER room was filled and I needed to be placed in the Gold hallway. They were so busy and my injury, requiring a CAT scan and X-rays (because I'm over 60 and I hit my head on concrete) I wasn't upset about the time. They checked in often with me and when they could with my husband. We texted to keep him informed since he couldn't come in unless I got a room. Jeff, Gayle, Stephanie and Dr. S were constantly in motion helping everyone. They were patient, considerate, gentle explained everything and results of tests. Even got me peach yogurt. For a hospital experience I was impressed.

Rude “ Doctors “ if that’s what you call these people. Lack of compassion. My grandma who is here currently in the hospital was asking for food to which the doctor responds “ this isn’t a restaurant “ no need for those types of comments. Lack of professionalism.
