It was a beautiful and sunny, slightly cool day today. I can’t get over the views of the coastal water from the top of the hill as I approached Seaside Seventh-day Adventist Church. He color of the exterior match the sunshine outside. I preselected where I would worship days in advance. I made in time for the later half of Sabbath School, and met by what seemed to be rehearsal taking place from the next room - all could be heard. It is a small church, enough room for love to flow endlessly. As I made my way to my seat to the farthest side away from the door of entry, no one came to great me with a whisper of “hello. ” As this could be awkward for most people, I dismissed this all too important protocol. After S. S.individuals moved about to take their seat in the pews and such. Yet, no one approached me. This didn’t take place until all visitors were asked to stand after 11 o’clock had started. Then hand shakes galore. I often wonder why there must be a prompting for all to say hello.
Seaside SDA is a very diverse church, so I didn’t feel I stood out. A man of Asian Indian origin never smiled the two times our eyes locked; it was more of a scowl. The same happened as I headed to the restroom, where I had to pass two females, brown like me. No smiles either. I was sure to make eye contact with all, which is my custom
I couldn’t help but wonder what was wrong with me. The most friendly person there was a man whose speech required careful attention, clothes with a bit of dirt. His singing was loud and off key, yet his kindness I will remember the most.
I DROVE alone 3,100+ miles from the east coast, to take away the only non-robotic courteous person and a seaside beautiful view that melted my heart. I may never return this church again. This was my first trip to CA, my body is still on east coast time and worn out. This experience has given me something for self examination as I reach out to those who need not only to know Jesus, they need to know that I care about them. Seaside SDA please work on your out reach, as if it is your first time there.

This was my first time visiting this church even though I've lived in the area for the past 8 years, & I regret waiting so long! I've been searching for a church home for my family. We've visited other local churches, and even attended one of those churches for a few years. Something was always missing, though.

Now I finally found what I've been missing. I felt the difference almost immediately. They made us feel so welcome. It felt like coming home! Thank God!
