Second Act West-Ladies Designer Resale reviews
5 Let the buyer beware!
Allow me to share my story of a recent purchase I made at at 2nd Act La Jolla on Girard Avenue. I saw an adorable Fendi Zucca Baguette purse, of a vintage age, probably from the early 2000's on the shelf. The price was good, and so I asked the store owner, Lucy, if she had had the bag authenticated. She replied that she had. This is an important detail! I was very clear when I asked "did you have the bag authenticated? " She replied, "Yes". I didn't ask for proof, which was my mistake. In my excitement of the find I bought the bag. That night I googled images of the bag online and immediately became suspicious that it was fake when the images of an authentic Fendi Zucca baguette bag didn't match the one I purchased. For example, the magnetic closure was round when it was supposed to be square. I wanted to contact the store owner immediately to tell her and ask for a refund, but decided to cool my jets and spend $40 to have it authenticated myself by one of the online services readily available. I chose one called LegitGrails who refused to authenticate it. With this information I contacted the store owner who eventually refunded my money but not before she admitted that she, herself, was the authenticator. In other words, she did not obtain outside authentication by someone who would provide documentation. Further, and importantly, she was argumentative during the call and the entire conversation was uncomfortable and off-putting. So, please, if you are going to purchase something there, do your homework and don't rely on the owner telling you it is authentic. I don't plan on ever setting foot in the store again as I don't trust the owner, at all.
The store owner, Lucie has posted a response to my review which is simply lie upon lie. That is to be expected, as she lied to me in person during the experience which I have detailed here. Again, do your homework before you buy anything there that the owner represents as an authentic designer piece. Do not take the store owner's word for it, as she lied to me and represented that a bag was authentic when it was not!
So many nice things, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Channel! Very friendly owner. Unfortunately, nothing I was looking for. I went back in twice! Shoes, bags, clothing and jewelry!
We took a formal gown in this shop for consignment around noon and that evening we received a confusing phone call from a woman who said we needed to come pick it up, as the shop did not want the dress. No understandable reason was given. The next day as we were leaving to pick up the dress, we received another phone call from a different person representing the shop. She was very aggressive, stating the owner was the one who called the night before and didn’t want the dress because she never accepted just one dress per customer on consignment. This whole experience was confusing and ridiculous! I’m still not sure why she wouldn’t accept a brand new formal gown in her shop. I will not return to this business! TERRIBLE COMMUNICATION and CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Very nice little store with pre-own designer and non designer fashions, lots of good deals.
Warning! Second Act-West Resale store is stealing from consigners! Don't bother bringing your clothes, jewelry, handbags or any other item to this business as a consigner. The owner Lucie Lu is a thief! She will tell you that your items were donated, or your account shows no sales in her computer, or they were stolen. She continued to lie even after I provided her pictures of my items (held by her employee, Linda) in her store and dates of when her employees said my items sold and for how much! I gave her many opportunities to be honest.
Don't consider buying from her store as you are buying stolen goods!
The negative Yelp reviews are true! She has no shame or professional ethics even during Covid-19 pandemic when people are financially distressed.
