SHAH RESTAURANT reviews
17 In its hey days, this place was a minimalist combination of delicious food and quick service.
Now the food is not nearly as delicious. The seekh kebabs which are one of their signatire doshes was bland and dry today. The chicken tikka masala was ok but the garlic naan was crispy and flavorful as before, the saving grace of the meal.
I think this is place is yet another casualty of the pandemic, hope the regain their old self in time to come
No one can beat them in tandoori Chicken leg, breast. Another best dish is Chicken Tikka masala or Paneer tikka with Garlic Naan, rest all is just average.
Pros:
- food taste
- cashier was friendly
Cons:
- Value for money is very low. Price is high for food quantity.
- cleanliness of the place.
- Service.
Got the chicken haleem and beef jhalfrezi to go.
Chicken haleem was a thick porridge - I’ve never had it before so that was a new revelation for me since I have only had Khichda which is a stew like version. But tasted good. Wish they had given ginger, green chillies and coriander with it.
The beef jhalfrezi was tasty too but the meat was a bit chewy. The masala was good.
Both dishes had a very homely feeling to them- as if made in ones own kitchen. So good for those who are homesick.
Hope to try other dishes too. Fully halal place.
Update:
They’ve started serving Biryani - I really recommend the chicken biryani. Big pieces of chicken and long we’ll spiced rice. Very good with the raita. I really appreciated that they were open on Eid Day which was really helpful.
Food here is delicious. Especially Chicken Biriyani and Chicken Tandoori. They have been maintaining good food quality consistently for at-least 8-9 years since I started visiting them. Keep up the great work Shah!
Food was yummy, and you need to do self service. It's reasonable too - I like their garlic naan, alu naan, kid liked chicken seekh kabab and tandoori chicken and chicken Tikka masala/ butter chicken- not to forget the free chai
Been a fan of their tandoori breast from past week after my friend told me about this hidden gem. It’s one of best ever tandoori chickens. Definitely try their chicken breast tandoori, good value for money. I also tried biryani which was ok, but their goat curry and naan were also top notch.
Not gonna lie, the place looks a little dirty and off but the food hits just right.
Bro the food take you bake to the Delhi
I'd recommend the garlic Naan to go with ANYTHING and EVERYTHING on the menu
Clean up the place guys, to match your food.
The best veggie biryani you can ever eat! I love it with their chik/beef seekh kababs. Very reasonably priced with big portion size. My wife is not very fond of their food but who cares because it's my taste buds, not hers.so it's all good!
Good nihari. I wish it was a bit more warm than it was. The meat was well cooked and the naan was also good. So far the best nihari I have had in bay area.
Service was prompt. The place has quite a bit of seating and was almost empty while I was there. Mostly taking out food.
The Shah's food is yummier than food I ate in Calcutta as a kid. Been coming here for years and have brought friends and colleagues.
Great menu and the prices are just right.
The range is amazing. Top-notch tandoori and vegetarian dishes!
Also the staff is outstanding, particularly the owner, Rohit. He has promptly, and professionally addressed my comments. Highly likely this is the best authentic Indian restaurant in The Bay Area.
I had a very poor experience. This place isn’t hygienic at all. Try best to avoid this place. I saw guy coming from kitchen with food box, dropped it, food was spilt and he put same samosa again in box. Would never go this place again. Filthiest.avoid please
Apparently I do have some self control. I forgot that I did because I hadn’t seen it in action for so long. Like the idea of having one alcoholic drink blows my mind. Most of the time, if I have one alcoholic drink it was by accident. There was this one time where I had one drink, but then I was reminded by a friend that I was DD for the night. Then the rest of the night I just questioned why I would ever go to a social gathering if I can’t drink. My lack of self control doesn’t only apply to alcohol, but also food. Every time I’ve ordered a large pizza for myself I’ve always finished it in one sitting, no matter how full I get. I heard that it takes 20 mins for your brain to tell your stomach that you’re full. Even after my stomach receives the message, I ignore it. That’s why I used to be so bad at going to church. One bite and one sip of the Body and Blood of Christ was never enough for me. It was just a tease. Even after all these experiences where I have lacked self control, I was reminded that there was still hope for me because of Shah. I ordered the vegetable biryani with naan and about half way through it, I decided to listen to that message my brain sent my stomach. It wasn’t like it was easy for me to listen, the food was delicious, but I held strong and put the fork down. I ended up finishing the rest for breakfast. Thank you Shah for reminding me that I do have some self control.
Just got chicken tikka and this was the most spicy tikka i have had in my life. Red chilli is all i could taste, no lemon nothing! Definitely not going back. So hot that could not eat it. Also not freshly made, it was rewarmed, dry and charred.
I would not recommend to anyone who has a stomach sensitive to chilli or spices.
Double Features Shan+Shah
-
Let us have a double feature here. I have seen people taking these two places name (not connected anyhow) as being a saviour for after party hunger during weekends as they both keeps open till after midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Shan has a good collection of rolls and wraps. Shah's tandoori items, both fowl and meat, are real treats. I think first time I tasted baklava was from one of these places.
One of my favorite takeout spots always pick up lunch from here right before work everything is always Hot never had an issue with food being tasteless or cold definitely worth the money
This spot obviously knows how to take care of their clients. Constantly with a friendly attitude. The food is reasonably priced, always flavorful and neat.
