Sherwin Lakes Trailhead reviews
15Great hike! A little tough, there is a lot of uphill and winding paths. The scenerey the whole way up is breathtaking, you can still see a lot of snow on the peaks depending in the time of year. Great weather the whole way, very windy.
A good workout trail but average views for this area with an average lake at its destination.
Wonderful hiking trail to a nice lake. Not particularly strenuous at any point. Probably about 50/50 shade/sun. Would definitely do again.
Absolutely wonderful for first-time backpackers, and a fantastic, beginner-friendly day hike!
Pretty good parking for such a low-key trail. I love that it has a pit toilet and trash cans.
IMO, for backpacking, Valentine Lake isn't worth the climb because there aren't really any large enough flat spaces to set up camp. It was windy at night last time I went, too. I definitely recommend day hiking it though! It's beautiful.
Great hike - starting elevation of about 7800' with an elevation gain of about 900' (translation, you will be going UP for most of the 2+ miles in). Regardless, well worth the effort, especially for those of you camping in the nearby campground. Note this trail is pretty quiet, especially given it's proximity to town.
Super fun hike. Left from here to get to Valentine Lake for a 2 night backpacking trip. Moderately strenuous the first 2.5 miles or so which gets you to Sherwin Lakes, the next 3ish miles to Valentine slightly less strenuous. Several great tent sites at Valentine.
Great views during this hike. Be aware that the hike is mostly uphill but then evens out closer to the lake. The payoff is great as the backdrop of the lake is an enormous beautiful mountain that can be covered in snow even as late as May. It's about 5 miles there and back. Moderate difficulty but even a beginner could do it.
Moderate trail description was correct. We went on a windy day and there was plenty of wind block from the trees as well as sporadic shade. The lake at the top was so worth it! We finished in a little under 2 hours and we are not avid hikers.
Had an awesome hike. I’m by no means an experienced hiker, but I had a great time, experienced the immense beauty this place has to offer, and got a great workout doing it.
Great day hike. Want on a Saturday in early June and still was not crowded. Amazing views.
Really close to Mammoth Mountain so this makes a great spot to sleep for a night after the slopes. The pin may lead you to an off-road trail that may be closed by a gate - that's actually the trail. Keep going down the road and you'll come to a field. Grab any spot. I suggest putting on chains just in case it snows or ices over
Wonderful hike, fairly busy, be sure to park at the end of the driveway as there's plenty of parking. The lake is quite a ways up but the trail is gorgeous.
Lots of poison oak near the creek so be careful.
A well used hiking trail to Sherwin Lakes. The 3 mile round trip is very steep and takes about an hour to reach the lake. Take plenty of water as it does get hot.
I used the trailhead parking to park my van for two nights. It was blissfully quiet and dark. I've been told that the surrounding area is quite beautiful, and I've no rain to doubt that. However, at the time I was there (mid-October 2020), the smoke was super thick and it was snowing ash. I hope to return someday during better conditions.
Decent parking with a pit toilet.
Trail starts off at a constant but incline with decent shade most of the way
