Shizen Vegan Sushi Bar and Izakaya, San Francisco CA

The place is always busy - had to make a reservation two weeks in advance! But it was so worth it. They only allow you a 90 minute period to dine in and suggest you order your food as soon as you can. Everything had a beautiful presentation and tasted delicious. One of the best vegan places I've been too. Would highly recommend the brussel sprouts and singing telegram.

Came here with a friend on a Sunday night. Was able to make reservations about a week prior through Yelp which does require you to put down a credit card in order to secure the resy. They also text message you the day of to confirm.

Our reservation was for 730 and were able to find parking within two blocks.

Upon arrival, they are diligent about checking our vaccination cards and ID’s. Once that was verified, we were seated right away. They do have a couple of outdoor dining tables with heat lamps but we opted for indoor and were fairly close to the door.

On the menu, there are a lot of GF or GFA (gluten free available) options. Tamari is already at the tables instead of soy sauce.

We ordered cocktails instead of sake- my friend had the same, Riesling, strawberries and lychee. I ordered the margarita which had soju, yuzu, and orange but i couldn’t really taste the yuzu.

The garlic edamame had a nice garlic flavor and the shishito peppers were okay. My skewer did have one orange pepper so that was different.

We ordered three specialty rolls - Perfect Alibi, Candlestick and Surprise Ending. I am not a vegetarian but the Candlestick was my favorite - it tasted like a spicy California roll and it came with the flame.

The Perfect Alibi was good, but as you bite into it, it does taste like a veggie sushi roll with the rice crackers sprinkled on top.

And I enjoyed the beet flavors in the Surprise Ending. Lucky me - I got the one with habanero but the same does tame the heat a bit. It is a good roll with a fun vibe.

I would come back again to try some of the other options that aren’t necessarily gluten free and definitely some other rolls as well.

I am very happy that they have a vegan/ vegetarian sushi place.it had great options.the staff were very friendly.the food was good and it had different options for everyone.also it tasted different and not only one kind of texture or flavor.it is more expensive than i would have liked to pay for the size and taste of the food that i ate.i wish i could give it 4.5 stars

First of all, finding a place to get vegetarian or vegan Sushi is difficult, so when I heard about this place I was excited to try it out. They have really amazing Sushis and I was too impressed by their presentation and taste. Guys do try out this place.

If you are vegetarian/ vegan, love sushi & a good dining experiences, Shizen should definitely be on your list of places to visit in San Francisco. Make sure to make a reservation though - it's pretty difficult to get a spot otherwise.

It took a super long time to pay and pick up our food. Once we got it, it was pretty good, but it was not worth having to wait in a long line to pay and then have to wait an additional 45 minutes at the restaurant for our food to be ready for a total turnaround time of 2 hours and 20 min.

Unbelievable sushi. This non-fish sushi is better than actual sushi. Your taste palates will tingle in many interesting ways. Highly recommended!

My wife and I were unable to book a reservation during our short visit to SF, so instead we ordered a takeaway. We were not disappointed! The food was delicious and the presentation was outstanding. The unique flavours and textures really does put Shizen in a different league to vegan cuisine.

Have to try to believe it. Best is to be able to eat in person but otherwise take out will get you to taste their amazing but presentation would not be there.

THE best vegan sushi restaurant! Absolutely delicious food! Well prepared, fresh and elegantly prepared. Shizen does not disappoint with menu options, their flavor combinations are fabulous! Can’t recommend this place highly enough.

My gf is obsessed with sushi, so naturally, we had to go. I found this place when I was searching for vegan friendly food spots in the area, and we weren't disappointed. I loved my kaiso salad I ordered, and my girlfriend loved Singing Telegram roll. I wouldn't recommend going here if you're very hungry though (unless you have the extra spending money to order several things) because portions are pretty petite. Sadly, I didn't remember to take pics, but trust me when I say, the presentation was snazzy.

I never been to a vegan restaurant before…. Cuz you know I love meat! But this place was awesome! I forgot that it was a vegan restaurant the whole time I was eating! Awesome people! Awesome food. What more can you ask for?

Our friends introduced us to this place and we absolutely love it. If you are craving vegan sushi, this is the place to be. They have so many options to choose from (both speciality and classic). They are open from 5PM -9PM everyday, wish they stayed open for a little longer but we never miss it whenever the timing allows it. Our favorite is hidden agenda and Boddy and Soul.

The hype is real! Make sure to book a reservation well in advance because this sushi is something else. I have had many vegan sushi rolls but nothing compares to Shizen. Each roll is unique and delicious. Highly recommend the Boddy and Soul. A must go

Absolutely lovely and intricate vegan sushi creations. The only thing we didn't like, is that they rush you to order several things at once because of their 90min limit per table and waiting times for food orders may take long because all tables placed order shortly after each other.

Our 3rd time here and Shizen is brilliant. An incredibly unique and delicious vegan menu paired with fantastic service means this place hits all the marks. Definitely recommend getting reservations ahead of time and be aware that they have a 90 minute dining limit. They were very very accommodating and patient with us and made our entire dining experience great
