Smart & Final Extra!, San Jose CA

Since the midtown Smart & Final opened we have shopped there almost weekly. That ends today.

S&F had grapes on their ad for $2.99/lb. The grapes are prepackaged in unsealed cellophane bags, total weights averaging three pounds or more, and loosely closed with a rubber band. My wife and I are seniors and couldn't possibly eat three pounds of grapes so I removed one bunch of grapes from a bag and proceeded to checkout. I've done this many times and nothing was ever said.until today.

When the cashier started to weigh the grapes she very vocally reprimanded me and said that if I want to buy grapes then I am required to buy the entire prepack. When I started to say something she told to ". Just pay for them and get out. If you don't like it then shop somewhere else". She identified herself as the manager but refused to state her name. She even tore off the bottom of the receipt that contained her name, transaction number, etc. When I got home I went to the S&F website to submit a complaint but guess what.it's impossible to do so without a lot of the information contained on the receipt portion that the cashier tore off. Coincidence?

Shoddy, insulting, customer service isn't the way to foster customer loyalty. Especially when the appalling behavior comes from your "store manager".

Great store! Was excited to see some exotic fresh produces on the shelf! Budget friendly too. Be sure to check out the digital coupons in the app.

I went to get distilled water and stuff to make some stir fry for dinner. With everything I got it was very well priced and very happy. This is a place to get some good things at a good price

I shop here for my instacart orders cause all of the smart n finals have all the same things. What I really appreciate is that when something isnt on the shelf they employees are always willing to go look and see if they have any in the back. Very helpful folks

For some groceries this place can't be beat. 5 lb blocks of cheese, for example, this is the place. Generally, they have really great prices on a gallon of milk.

I love my local store and their staff! It is always clean and generally stocked when I come here. The staff are friendly and helpful too. =)

I found the prices and products very good. Very important to me, it's very well laid out. I usually dislike grocery stores because they're chaotic and confusing. I'm in and out of there in 20 minutes because I can easily find what I want in quickly. It's a dream for me.

I recall when the store first opened a few years ago, the store is clean, well stocked, and the staff continues to be friendly and helpful.

It's a perfect combo of Warehouse pricing on great quality store-brand and national brand products without the compromises one makes when shopping Costco or Wally-World.

Great prices, plenty of Mexican options for different dishes you can find almost everything for a pozole, mole. Keep an eye on the weekly specials for fruit and vegetable they have sometimes avocado at $0.70

This Smart & Final location is always fully stocked. I was at the Westgate store just before and they barely had a few things from the weekly ad out and ready, while this one was.

Nice clean and organized store. Good selection of products when I was there. Despite having to wait a long time while the lady in front me argued for a sale price. I still gave 5 stars.
I do not like the parking lot.

This store is in a bad area of Midtown SJ and it shows. They lock the entrance before 9pm and they close at 10pm, if you're lucky they'll let in the exit doors. Most of the staff are good, but some are rude with poor customer service skills. If you have to go to this location, go during the day not at night. Otherwise, pretty good produce section and pretty well stocked and clean.

Nice store, good selection, well stocked and clean. Parking close to entrance, friendly staff and good prices. I'll be back!

This is a new store, and it shows. Very inviting when you enter, bright lights, colors, selection. You would think you are at a way more expensive store.
