Smokeyard BBQ and Chop Shop, Mammoth Lakes CA

On a Friday, when other restaurants were fully booked, we visited this place recommended by our hotel as a first-come, first-served establishment. We arrived around 5 PM and were seated immediately, but by 6 PM, it was packed. I was surprised by the generous amount of BBQ chip seasoning, but it was incredibly tasty! The baby back ribs were very tender, and the kids were very happy with the pasta and chicken tenders from the children's menu.

This place isn’t good at all came with a group of 7 and none of us liked it! PLEASE DONT GET WINGS ALL BONES
RIBS WERE ALSO GROSS AND THE MAC AND CHEESE WAS GROSS OVERALL FOOD 1 star ️ I got served hot water I will never be back! HORRIBLE!

Awful service, extremely slow to cook, tiny pork rib… I never ever experience such bad service quality and slow speed and small amount of food…

We waited for 50mins for a to go order even there are only few customers in the store… they won’t cook your food until you ask about when it will be ready. Can’t imagine how it experience when it is snow season with more customers. Btw, the food are not as good as we expected given the prices are not cheaper than Bay Area…

The ribs are dry and days old. Tastes like taken out of freezer and brush on sauce then microwave. Horrible.

We walked in and ordered food to go from this place. We had to wait for 50 min for them to finish preparing what should have been a very basic meal (see a few pictures below), despite the restaurant not being crowded at all at that time. Additionally, we were a group of three, but they only provided us with two sets of forks and knives

Amazing food!

Somewhat confused staff if you as a guest have never been there before and know the concept. The environment a bit noisy and hard to hear if you are hard of hearing like others.

But what amazing food! Definitely worth an extra turn!

The waitress was stressed and frazzled. Our order got lost and it took over 45 min to address it, once I finally went up and asked why everyone else was served. Everything was overcooked and over sauced. After $50 off for letting us sit for over an hour, none of us even enjoyed the food and it was still $180 bill for four people. Tourist food. They bank in you not coming back, obviously. The spicy margarita was decent. Will never go back

We went here in the summer time and have been going to mammoth for years. The food and service has gone downhill prettily heavily.

We ordered a variety of BBQ items, all which were over cooked and mostly dry aside from the ribs. They said the Brussels would come out crispy and delicious and they were soft and Luke warm in a cast iron dish.

We were one of four tables in the entire restaurant and it took forever to get the server to come back to take a drink order. Once we ordered she put down the cocktail in front of the 2yr old without even realizing it.

The quality of the food in the restaurants in Mammoth have dropped severely in our opinion over the past few years.

It was okay. My hopes weren't super high knowing where this place is located and my expectations were satisfactorily met.

The nice thing is, we were able to get seated right away and our food came out within about 15 minutes of us getting our appetizer (maybe a little bit longer since our waitress made a small mistake).

I ordered the pork sandwich and it was pretty good. I enjoyed the balance between sweet and salty, soft and crunchy with the pork and the coleslaw. The homemade BBQ chips were utterly forgettable, though. They didn't have that delectable crunch and were rather flavorless.

I will say that the salad portions are pretty generously sized. One person in my party ordered one and it honestly looked like it could easily feed 3 people.

Overall it's not bad but at the end of the day, it really is just another generic Village restaurant. Our waitress was a peach, though. I really liked her and I thought we had good service.

When we walked in, the chefs behind the open kitchen gave us such angry looks that we should have left.
But unfortunately we stayed and it didn't get any better.
The menu was very skimpy, especially if you don't want meat.
The food itself was mixed. The burger and the chili were ok, the mozzarella sticks inedible. We had these twice as two of us didn't want meat. We let both portions go back almost completely.
The prices were way too high for that.

Not sure why there are bad reviews other than perhaps the atmosphere which is just okay- it is better if you sit outside though.

Food is great here. Ribs were awesome. Mac n cheese was amazing actually. The wedge salad was also great. Everything we ate was great and our waitress was on top of things. She even brought a bday dessert to us even though we didn’t ask for anything- she over heard us talking and brought it out. My only complaint is nobody greeted us for 2-3 minutes. I even looked at the bartender and one of the people cleaning up tables and nobody even said hi one moment I just stood there for 2-3 mins. But finally the hostess came and set us up. I’m not going to fully knock them bc places everywhere can’t find staff but if I’m the manager i at least tell my staff to acknowledge someone until the hostess is ready.

Food was quick and of high quality.enjoyed seating outside even though all the heaters were broken.prices seemed a bit high.had a good meal with enjoyable servers

Returned years after several past visits which were excellent and very much enjoyed. Not so much this latest visit. Tritip tough and not very flavorful. Odd cook and presentation too (I'm sorry, but the sear marks looked painted on like a Swanson frozen dinner portion). I BBQ tritip at home and it never comes out like that. Accompanied by disappointing mashed potatoes and nothing else - that's it for $28. No veggies. Had to steal bites of salad from someone else's plate.
Drink order arrived after meal was served. Did not seem busy at the hour. Server made it right.

Worst BBQ place I have ever tried in my life! I got the tri tip and it look like a microwave dinner when it arrived and tasted even worst it’s been an hour and I’ve been throwing up… I Will never never eat here again.

We split the happy hour smoked wings and the crispy rock shrimp. It was a generous amount of food for 2 people and it was great, especially being "bar" food. Don't plan on eating dinner after that!
The drinks and food prices were so reasonable. We can't wait to come back.
