Snowshoe Thompson's Ski and Snowboard Rentals, South Lake Tahoe CA

Friendly and welcoming staff. My husband and his family have been renting from here for years. Now my husband and I rent from here. They have very inexpensive prices and great equipment. We have never had an issue when we have rented from here. The staff are knowledgeable of the equipment and the areas nearby. They are helpful with getting you the proper fitted equipment and will provide extra help if you need it.

We needed large size shoes for snowshoeing and they had them available! Very friendly and helpful staff. We rented everything we needed to go snowshoeing at Chickadee Ridge. We had a great family outing thanks to having all the equipment we needed!

This store has cheap rentals and always has popular sizes in stock. But beware if you're not a white ski bro who knows EXACTLY what he wants.

The lady who works here is sweet and wonderfully helpful. Thank god for her or else this place would get 1 star. But the men are rude, and probably racist, and they seem like they don't even want our business.

Someone I was skiing with rented her skis here. She was a beginner and told the shop she had skiied only once before. Either the shop set her DIN setting high, or the bindings were faulty, and they never released, despite maybe a dozen falls. She ended up injuring her knee (hopefully just soft tissue) as a result.

When we returned the skis, they didn't even offer sympathy, let alone a refund. With a shop this high volume, does it really matter if you refund $26 for the second day?

I know the owner (probably the nice lady's husband) will say this is libel, based on the other reviews this place has. I say, go ahead and sue. This is my honest opinion and a true account of what I experienced.

Good equipment, reasonable prices and good advice included free. We had a great time trying out cross country skiing thanks to Snowshoe Thompson’s!

I give 1 start because this is a dangerous and irresponsible ski shop. Below is what happened in detail if anyone is interested:

The ski rented from this place was not properly set. Even though I stated clearly that I am a beginner, the DIN wasn't set properly. The ski didn't release when I fall and twisted, and as a result, I broke my leg. The ski resort had to rescue me, and I spent my Saturday night in a hospital. When I returned the ski, the tall White dude working there refused to refund me and didn't show any caring about what happened. He was even trying to put the fault on me.

Rented three pairs of snowshoes for visiting family. The bindings were super easy to use. Click and tighten the knob.

Prices are very reasonable, lower than others I called. They were very understanding when I had car trouble and couldn't return them on time. Would rent here again!

This family run business is the best in the area. Extremely knowledgeable and super helpful, plus they were kind, personable, funny, and warm people. The equipment was superb and it was incredibly easy to pick up and drop off. They were flexible with some schedule hiccups on our side due to weather and were gracious and understanding! Couldn’t recommend more highly!

I absolutely loved this family owned business. The staff was so friendly and sweet! They were very helpful and the price was a 1/3 of the cost from the resort! Most definitely recommend renting here!

Rude and impatient lady got very upset when we didn’t get the right size and decide to leave. Will not recommend and definitely not go back.

Great deals on snowboard + ski rentals. Very courteous and patient people running the shop. They let me pick my gear up after 2pm the day before. I paid $35 for a one day rental of performance snowboard, boots, and bindings. Helmet rental was $7. They don’t rent goggles but have cheap options if you want to get a pair.
