Sobo Ramen reviews
16 Like many other "Japanese" restaurants, Sobo is not run by Japanese, but rather Chinese, which is surprising since it's usually Koreans.
I've been coming here since the grand opening and enjoy their Agadashi tofu and various ramen. All of their ramen options are great! They also serve sake and Japanese beer.
The ramen broth is really good here, as are the noodles.
Their appetizers, though, need work. Gyoza is too crispy. Unfortunately, this applies to many of their other appetizers that are fried. So I recommend just coming here for ramen.
The space is nice, clean;however a bit dark as if they are trying to lower their PG&E electric bill. There is only one bathroom. So, oftentimes, one may have to wait. It's the cleanest bathroom in Chinatown!
The former business in this location is the long gone and missed ABC Bakery - Cantonese bakery that was open late!
Delicious. The ambiance was lovely as well! Would love to go again if I’m ever in Oakland.
The worst thing: it charges 4% credit card fee. Ramen are not that good and price is $$$. Never thought that a general ramen cost is at $25/bowl.
Comparing to Nagi this ramen quality is bad, not mention the location is at this area. No service as well.
On the side of the plaza, half barbecue duck coats $18, which is a more solid choice.
The Tan Tan noodles were tasty and just the right amount spicy. Nice spot in downtown Oakland
Best Ramen ever! I had the Spicy Mayu today it was amazing I will definitely be getting this again
Probably one of the best ramen spots in the East Bay. Really rich broth but not too fatty or salty. I like how they experiment with the ramen noodles themselves to create some fun flavours. Can't wait to try the other ramen options they have to offer
The Ramen was so basic. Not worth the cost. 3 out of the 5 people who joined our group order and eat. We where charged a service charge due to there being 5 people at the tabe on a slow day. Only three groups in the resurant the entire time.
I'll never return
One of my go-to places in Oakland for noodly goodness. The ramen is always rich and delicious. Staff are friendly and attentive. Give it a go if you have the time.
It’s one of our favorite ramen spots of Oakland! Excellent taste great service nice people.parking out front.super for a nice date. Oakland’s Chinatown area is special. We live here.
Definitely needs more than one waitress. Food is amazing and the restaurant is busy but just one person shouldn’t be waiting tables.
Decent flavors and tender meat however we were very surprised to have an 18% service charge appear on our bill. We had a party of 5 and none of us saw anywhere on the menu or signage that we would be expected to pay a double service charge/tip. Prices were already very high so this was a shocker.
Food and portion size was great but customer service was horrible. They are rude, they don’t check on you & they charged my boyfriend for two drinks bc the tea was nasty
Very clean with a excellent choice of dishes. It was cool to see the noodle machine in operation as well.
Definitely worth the stop.
I’ve eaten ramen here for a few years and it is always top notch. Spicy tonkatsu, black tonkatsu, spicy miso, it’s all great with in-house made noodles and fresh ingredients. Even the fried chicken side dish is on point. Soho is also good value for money and served piping hot, with togarashi available at tableside. If you desire very good and authentic ramen you will not be disappointed in the food.
The shoyu broth was extremely flavorful and the portions were large! Staff was very friendly too and facilities were clean.
Spicy ramen was delicious- all the ingredients come together perfectly- ordered crispy cutlet on the side as a compliment- Sapporo on tap!
