******WARNING****** If you are inquiring about housing, do not give these people your email address! They use an email service that is impossible to unsubscribe from and will continuously send undesired emails even when repeatedly asked to stop. I had to file a complaint with the FCC and still receive their soliciting emails. This tactic and their pricing both drove me away from their housing.

The toilet seat was missing on the first day; the staff said we have to wait 1-2 weeks for them to fix it. Saying we should just practice our “squat. ” Had to talk to the manager to fix it. Overall, maintenance is horrible. Parking (unassigned) costs $65 a months, and you cannot cancel it once you sign the papers.
These are the newest apartments in Davis which is nice, but very unclean. Spider webs everywhere, and the tub wasn’t cleaned when my roommate, and I moved it. At the end of my lease, they tried to overcharge me for parking even though I had paid it fully; had to talk to the finance guy to take care of it; took him a week to reply to my first email, and in total, took him 3 weeks to take care of this issue.
Printer tends to not be working most of the time, but you can usually fix it by unplugging and plugging in back usually. The study hall was very useful, but very loud too at times.

The staff in West Village are terrible. They do not know answers to anything and keeps abandoning questions. I would not mind them not knowing, but their attitude and service is just terrible.

If you're considering backing out of an upcoming lease that you prepaid for.good luck. The contract is ridiculously set and stone. Once you're in, it's hard to opt out.

Worst living experience I’ve ever had. When moving in, I had wires hanging from the ceiling where smoke alarms were supposed to be, this took 3 months to be resolved despite it being an “emergency” and against California Health codes. The room was not cleaned before I
moved in, so there were spider webs, dust, and dead flies all over the room, and the clean up they said they’d provide was never done after I requested it. There was a hole the size of a beach ball in my ceiling after it rained for the first time that winter. Maintenance requests I made when I moved in (6 months ago) never fulfilled. Locked in my room due to faulty door locks, and when calling the locksmith, they said they’d be a few hours, so I had to take the hinges off the door myself and missed my classes. I was wrongly charged for a month that I wasn’t even here for, which took weeks to take care of, despite my contract clearly stating otherwise. Vents are connected so if your roommate smokes, it’s coming into your room. My power went out in my room only, and this emergency was put off until the next day and maintenance refused to talk to me when requested. Parking lots are unsafe, my car was broken into and my window was busted. Due to all of these problems, I’ve been trying to get out of my lease, yet they are persistent with keeping you locked in, despite them not doing anything that was promised.

My bike was stolen from right bellow my apartment. I bought a new bike with a stronger lock, but now the piston has been stolen from it and it is now useless.: (
On another note, there are so many abandoned bikes clogging up bike parking. They used to remove some, but now they are everywhere!

I have been emailing left and right to get my deposit money back which I have been promised I would receive in 3~4 weeks in January. I do not understand why it is so difficult to get in contact with them and I keep getting automated responses that the email inbox is no longer being monitored by everyone I've been contacting. I had to pay 2 months rent for my deposit and I can't even get an update to what is happening to my money at all. I've already left for my home country and this has been stressing me out for the past almost now 3 months. I opted to leave this review because it seems to be the only means and my last resort to contact Sol at West Village at all.

Everything went well while you live there, but when you move out, it is gonna be a disaster. I moved out Last August, and I still can’t get my deposit back in February. They lost my deposit at the first place, and when I try to contact the staff there to demand a new one, the manager, Marshall and Kiara, didn’t even want to respond an email.

Sol at West Village (Former West Village at UCDavis) is a nice and high-quality alternative for student housing. It offers a variety of amenities on-site, more importantly, interior places in sol at west village do look like the pictures that have been presented over the website. However, I wish the staff and overall management performance were as nice as the place. The staff at concierge don't know how to resolve the issues on spot or after business hours most of the time. The level of service also gets worse at the pick time of the year such as move-in dates in September, or the final exam weeks.   The assistant community manager usually has a significant delay in getting back over emails and is not easy to reach.

It took a while for me to realize how the penalty policies make Sol a stressful complex to live. The base rental fees are expensive and the base rates will increase at least 5% each year. In addition, they are highly sensitive for receiving on-time rent payments in full every month, also there would be consequences for you if you don't follow the dates, because you would then have to pay a significant late fee on top.

Moreover, they would charge you for any minor mistake you might make during or after your lease such as loosing your apartment keys. Also, the leasing office doesn't provide the cash or card payment at the front desk, and you would have to choose to pay rents online or in-person by checks. However, if you choose to pay with your debit or credit card in your resident portal online, there would be an additional 3% service charge on top of the rent! Another naive policy is when a community assistant let me knew that there is a policy not to put the business cards on the counter, and you would need to inquire for a person contact information, to get his/her card. Another policy is that residents will be asked for collateral (such as apartment keys) to get the billiard stick, the ping pong balls, the board markers, etc.at the clubhouse.

I would give 2 stars mostly because of the overall community management performance, and the existence of penalty policies for residents that make people less motivated to stay in the community, and make it a barrier for maintaining a friendly environment.

Construction has been annoying so far, same with the wind making the bedroom windows bang against each other

Living at West Village for me was a great experience. Met a lot of great people and I still miss the hot tub.

Do you know how much desposite they asked from me? $2,750. My roommates were only asked for $1,300. Since I have a decent credit score and had no history of concealing, I really can't understand why I am treated with this sort of discrimination.

DO NOT choose this apartment! You'll never get your deposit back. When I call them, send email, or go to the office, the only thing they say is I need to WAIT. Now they never respond me. They don't care about the 21 day returning deposit law, and this means you have to pay 14 months rent for a year's room.

Lack of communication. The office is never open, you never get a live person and NO ONE returns message after message being left. This is unprofessional as well as rude!

We showed up on moving day for our daughter and the apartment was never cleaned. The manager sent over a cleaning person to clean and sent a carpet cleaner person over to only clean my daughters room not the apartment. The rent we are paying is higher than the advertised price. The experience has been horrible. They take advantage of college students. Honestly if you are planning on a double up room, it's not even a possibility of being comfortable. They have 18 inches between the two beds and you have climb over one bed to get to the restroom. This is our second student at Davis and our daughter never had an issue at the other properties she lived at. In addition to the horrible move in conditions we were told to keep the blinds closed because the construction crew next to the building liked to look in the windows.

Pretty looking and nice amenities BUT cockroaches, mice, and the absolute WORST if you need help from staff. They will NOT return calls, emails, and they MIGHT get around to maintenance requests in a month or two. Quick to charge you for every little thing.and slow (NEVER) will respond to your numerous calls and emails.

Please read this before signing your lease!
My experience living there was okay, our apartment was nice and amenities were okay (expect the dirty, "dust bunny" filled gym). My issue with West Village started when I moved out. On the night before move out day, my housemates and I spent 6+ hours cleaning the apartment, it was cleaner than when we moved in. After speaking to my ex-housemates (who actually received their deposits back), they said most of the deposit was taken for "cleaning expenses. " Lets just say KISS YOUR DEPOSIT GOODBYE! And I say "who actually received their deposits back" because I NEVER RECEIVED MY SECURITY DEPOSIT BACK! It has been OVER A YEAR since I moved out. I spoke with Marshall Walters (who ignores my emails) and he assured me that my deposit would arrive 2 months ago. I still haven't received it, I call 2-3 times a week just to be sent to voicemail each time. This "business" is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!

Worst apartment EVER. They won’t give your deposit back, never respond your email if it hurts their benefits. DO NOT choose this apartment if you don’t want to be disturbed by the construction every morning. It makes my head explode. Some of the front desk assistants are extremely rude and disrespectful. What a waste of money.

You know the frustrating feeling that occurs when you’ve been living somewhere for some time and you pay a lot of money to the landlords with the expectation that they would ensure the renter’s happiness to stay there. But they create a new problem that ruins your quality of life and when you contact them, they don’t reverse the problem they caused, because they won’t admit that they are in the wrong and tell you to find ways to adapt to their problem that they impose on you to deal with. A week ago, West Village had changed their outdoor lights to be much more brighter than they need to be throughout the night and what’s worse, one of these new bright lights is outside my window. Even with my blinds closed, (the best that they could be) light still pours into my room. Causing me to have a frustrating time trying to go to sleep during the night. Consequently, making me to feel tired during my work in the morning and possibly will cause me to create a big accident of some kind due to the lack of necessary sleep required for your body to function normally. As their are scientific studies on how light negatively affects the persons health during sleep. I find ridiculous that West Village would handle their problem with such neglect for their renters’s welfare. I just wish West Village could see the error they are imposing on my well being and reverse the enormous problem they caused on my livelihood. I’m fine with everything else West Village does, but if they interfere with my entitled pathway towards sleep then I am reasonably angry at them.
