Sol Food reviews
21My son (21) LOVES this place and has been eating here or ordering takeout for many years. Not my favorite cuisine, but I did find that the Veggie Deluxe sandwich was quite tasty and the Pique sauce is a winner!
The food is delicious but, I ordered Bisteca with onions, the dish is rice, beans, beef, and or french fries or banana…And onions, but man, I’m sure there were maybe 2 full onions, and just a tiny bit of rice and a tiny bit of beans, a bunch of french fries…super overpriced for a bunch of onions and french fries, Used to drive from SF to eat, but definitely won’t anymore! Disappointed
Great spot and friendly service! Authentic, well executed Puerto Rican Food. Order at the counter, get a number and receive your order while sitting down.
I am part Puerto Rican and have never been to the island myself. My father tells me stories about my grandparents who immigrated to the United States from San Juan. He has shared many about his growing up in Spanish Harlem, and the food his mother (my grandmother) used to make. I get so excited to go and be in such a lively, beautiful, and culturally relevant space I connect me to my roots. I have eaten here many times; the first thing that I tried is a famous Cubano sandwich, the Papas Fritas, and their sweet desert plantains! To finish it all off with a nice tall glass of cold limeade. I have also tried the rotisserie chicken, which is fantastic; great portions of juicy, tasty goodness! Sol Food’s staff is absolutely delightful, and it is no wonder they always have a line and a wait to get in, which is obviously well worth it! I'll share some pictures the next go around!
Oh my goodness! The aroma? Of black beans hit me a block away! Hot open oven of chicken [Rotisserie] juicy. Delicious smells from the open kitchen is just INSANE!? The SHRIMPY BURRITO IS A MUST IF YOU LOVE BURRITOS!?
Love the food but rude customer service twice now and trying to charge for extra pique sauce when paying 40$ for two sandwiches….
Delicious I have been eating at this restaurant for over 10 years and the food is still just as delicious as the first time. A little pricey but it is delicious. The limeade is really good a little sweet but I just water it down some.
I love this spot never disappoints. Food is always consistent. It's a must go, whenever your in the north bay whether it's lunch or dinner. Currently correct me if I'm wrong, but you can go inside their main restaurant to sit down and eat but you can also order to go. Best to order ahead of time and pick up. If you do
Repaint your building! Haha! I love it. If you've never eaten here you're missing out. Moist chikin like you've never had. The vinegar based hot sauce is on par with any I've had; which they sell bottles of, I suggest getting one. Although the sandwiches are amazing I wish tortillas were a Puerto Rican thing. But until then I'll just continue to shovel your food into my face with whatever utensil I grab first. When you go read the letter posted at the entrance of the green restaurant. Eat here, You're welcome.
I love this place so much! I really miss sitting inside and taking my time but they are killing it with to-go orders and keeping their staff safe. Was able to grab food quickly and go to a local park. Can't wait to be back in person but the food is still as good as it ever was!
First time eating from here. Ordered two combination dinners. Lots of food, salad, protein, rice, beans, plantains. Chicken thighs were good. Pork chop was salty. Food wasn't great. But wasn't bad. Would definitely try again and try other items.
Wow! If you're looking for a completely satisfying meal, this is the place to go! So delicious I forgot to take a picture of my meal. I had the half rotisserie chicken, the meal comes with salad, rice and your choice of pinto or black beans, tostones or maduros or French fries. Again, so delicious and satisfying. Not to mention the refreshing ponche and JAMAICA iced tea (aka sorrel).
What can I say about Sol Food, it is one of the best P. R spots in the bay! I drive across that bridge in 5pm traffic for some their goodness, round-trip an hour plus. The daily specials are always on point like a sharpie! If you're in the mood for something deliciously decadent for dessert, check out the Pina bread pudding with that mango glaze or the flan de coco orrr coconut pudding. Your pallet will do the happy. Buen provecho
I have been here a few times to try a few different things before writing a review. I am Puerto Rican, grew up in NYC, and grew up eating at different Puerto Rican restaurants around the country. Although this isn't the worst I've had, it definitely comes close when it comes to service, price, and quality. The best thing I had at Sol Food was the café rico.
The Cubano doesn't use lechón or pernil. The pork is dry, the bread does not have enough ajó nor do they give you any on the side.
They do not serve yellow rice or empanadas.
I ordered pan con ajó and it barely had any ajó if any. It just tasted like it had butter and the bread was soft, not toasted.
The chicken wasnt bad apart from the price. It was about 5 times more expensive than the average prices of what I've had in other restaurants around the country.
The server that brought out my food seemed to be in a bad mood and was impatient and rude with me and other customers.
Overall, I am disappointed.
Delicious, and I loved the letter framed in the menu box. Crack me up!
Picked up some sauces and two sandwiches and we will absolutely be back for more. Sandwiches were awesome.
DELICIOUS! GO NOW! Usually open late, music out front occasionally, killer service, they'll walk you through the menu to what's appropriate. Myself and everyone else just loves this place!
The BEST restaurant in the Bay Area. I must go every time I come up to visit. The garlic plantains and their hot sauce are legendary. Can’t say enough good things.
This place has the best pasteles I have ever eaten. My own grandmother never made them this good. Pricey, $48 a dozen frozen, but I will drive from Folsom to Sol Food in San Rafeal again to buy them again when visiting from Arkansas! Love, love loved them!
It was the first time I tried Puerto Rican food, and I was glad that I tried this one because it was absolutely delicious. The coffee though, was pretty special that I wouldn’t say I love it. It was not too easy to find street parking, but you could call ahead of time to pick up without parking.
Food is great! Only went down a few stars because the prices have noticably increased (kinda understandable.). My biggest problem is the tostones seem to be old everytime I order them. Very hard and almost inedible. Sad, but a big let down for me.
