Square One Dining reviews
19One of my favorite spots in LA. Great for breakfast/brunch/dinner, amazing breakfast burrito
This place used to have the best French toast and eggs benedicts plates. The quality of their food gradually declined sometime during or immediately before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. We got a benedict plate that had no Hollandaise Sauce and the bacon was not regular Canadian bacon! The potato on the side had an insane amount of garlic on it and as luck would have it, we went there for breakfast first thing in the morning!: (This was our go to place and we are very disappointed.
Still great after all these years. Not cheap, but top quality everything. No wasted effort or nonsense. Just solidly great breakfast.
Below average. Coffee isn't good at all. No refills on coffee either, at least not for my friend, who kept his coffee. Order taker did simply that: take the order. There was no check back to see how our meals were or any other type of interaction. I've had better conversations at a drive-thru. Food was alright. Nothing to write home about. After wanting to try this place for several years being that I always drive past it, the experience was quite disappointing. Probably won't be back.
The food can be tasty but it's hit and miss. Got delivery. Eggs on Benedict were perfect one time and then smallest I'd ever seen and cooked solid the next. Pancakes were served with ketchup. Odd.
Very pricy. Overall, not worth the breakfast/ brunch roulette.
Great service and a very nice patio for a beautiful breakfast/lunch outdoors. Their service was also great. They don’t have a huge menu. I had their famous golden milk but it was kinda anti-climactic. With turmeric and cinnamon it was kinda powdery. I wish I had a stirring straw to mix up the foam on top. I also had the breakfast burrito with a side salad. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great. My friend had pancakes, which were more like silver dollar pancakes, but very fluffy and light. And the breakfast tacos. Overall this place is cute for a breakfast/lunch with friends.
If you want yummy brunch, sun and LA vibes this is the place! I had a great time eating brunch on a picnic style table with beautiful views of the big blue Scientology building (lollll) In all seriousness it was a pretty standard spot, BUT these potatoes are what will have me come back. The potatoes reminded me of garlic fries, but with all the love and comfort of home style breakfast potatoes.
3.5 stars. Cute neighborhood spot for breakfast, brunch, lunch and (now apparently) dinner. I came here for lunch and ordered the Cubano sandwich. I don't recall the price, but I know it was less than $10. It wasn't the best I've had, the bottom portion of the bun got soggy, but it came with a side salad which was not wilted!
Square One Dining is tucked away on Taylor Street, a place you'd probably never go to unless a) you're a cable car junkie, or b) you happen to live in the 'hood. What a great find! Pat herself is friendly and accommodating, as is Francisco, who meets and greets and even re-heats coffee if needs be. The cafe itself is charming, the walls adorned with art and painted in orange and yellows. The menu boasts a wide variety of cozy breakfast foods ("plain 'ol eggs" with bacon, ham or sausage, crepes, Pecan Pumpkin Spice Pancakes!), and salads and wraps for lunch, with a "Something Else? Just Ask for It! " policy.
The scenery was nice and so was the set up. It was a perfect breakfast spot and if I am ever int he mood for a good breakfast, not Mexican breakfast, I am sure to put this on the list to try and know the food is worth it, unless it is a failed attempt to provide mexican food.
Therefore, I have to give this place two stars SOLEY for what I thought was a false advertisement of Chilaquiles. Sorry pat, maybe you will think of relabeling the name of the dish from "Chilaquiles" to "An omelette with a side of tortilla chips and potatoes"
Can't believe I have never heard of or been to this place before! I ordered two meals because I couldn't. Both were amazing! Only reason why I didn't give them 4 stars is because they don't serve alcohol. A Square One Dining or two would've been nice but this place is incredible for brunch.
Riun Away! Stay away!
We were told wait was 20 to 25 minutes. An hour later still no table. They should be ashamed of themselves
Such a cute space! The California omelet was amazing and very filling. Great food and very friendly staff! We look forward to returning when we come back to LA.
Small place. Greattt food! Very healthy and fresh selection. Probably one of the best omelets I have ever had. A little understaffed but worth the slight wait.
Excellent service, inviting atmosphere, reasonably priced for the city. What more could you ask for? Real maple syrup? They have that too! You can tell the breakfast was made to order, and arrived quickly. I would come back.
I have traveled the globe in my Holy Grail quest for the perfect pancakes. Aruba, Toronto, Bavaria Germany, Constantinople, Ho Chi Minh, Rio De Jinero.they all have wonderful concoctions in their own right. But here.here in a quaint hole in the wall called Square One Dining
in LA California.they may make the most interesting pancakes in the world.
I have had brunch in more than 20 places in LA and Square One Dining is in my top five list. It's cozy, fast and delicious. If you go during the weekend, don't miss the weekend's Benedict specials. They come with hollandaise sauce which is awesome. For weekends, depend on the party size, you may have 15-45 minutes waiting time to be seated, but the area (North Beach) is nice to walk!
Dinner at Square is great food and a great deal - about 20% less than eating anywhere else in North Beach for the quality. We live in the neighborhood, and took some friends there Monday night. Sadly, it was almost empty. While breakfast and lunch are waiting lines only, more people need to discover Square for dinner or she won't be able to continue being open at night. We all loved the pork tenderloin, grilled calamari salad, and the garlic cilantro fries are great. The atmosphere is colorful and really delightful with all the original framed art - it's like eating in a gallery. Best of all, it's quiet - no high-ceilings, music blaring. You can actually enjoy the company of the people you're with.
Super friendly and HUGE portions. Definitely fresh food. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is it's a little pricey for diner style food. IMO. However, that being said we will return. So many other items to try. Did I say super friendly?
