Su-Beoreg & Monta Factory reviews
19Tiny Pasadena gem! The sini-monta are delightful bites of meat and dough and su-beoreg is an awesome version of mac'n'cheese (or sauceless lasagna if you will). These descriptions fail to describe how good this food is in its simplicity.
They serve the tastiest salmon sandwich I've had in my life! Their homemade sauce, bread, and flavor is either love or magic. Regardless its a must try, along with their monta and su-beoreg. Support this local gem for their delicious, one-of-a-kind food, and fantastic customer service.
Nice variety, beautifully cooked Shish, but the seasoning was not really there. Pasta salad is on the oily side and the Hummus is excellent. Update to come with a few more visits.
ARMENIA
Excerpt from Eat the World Los Angeles:
It is not until you get inside of this tiny shop that the word factory comes to full fruition and the trays of yet-to-be baked sini-monta can be observed. Stacks of variously-sized pizza boxes are also ready to hold orders of su-beoreg and trays of those monta that some people want cooked before leaving. Framed articles from Eater and the Pasadena Star-News share the leftover space with the menu.
Nowadays you order from outside the door of course as even two customers would make the little storefront crowded. A table in front allows for sitting and eating, but it appears most people load their trunks and disperse to their homes near and far. If you come for the first time, proper heating instructions are given in detail to make sure everything comes out just right at home.
What seems to be an indication of the confidence of this kitchen is the phrase "Better than your grandma's - she'll agree! " which is challenging the vast numbers of Angelenos who do have Armenian grandmas. If you do not have one to compare with, you might just have to trust them.
I must say, one of the good things that happened during Shelter-in-Place was that I was able to FINALLY try Howlin' Ray's. I couldn't bring myself to wait in line for 2 hours long (although my fellow Angelino friends say that it is WORTH the wait) but I always wanted to try it. When they announced that they were working with Postmates, I hopped on it.
We ordered delivery via Postmates:
We ordered two Carbonara pasta dishes and the Margherita and Four Cheese Truffle pizzas. The food arrived decently warm for delivery and on time. So that by itself gets a star. The pizza was delicious, the bread was a little too chewy for my taste but my family loved it. The Carbonara pasta was so good! I would definitely recommend this dish. However for the price you pay for the pasta, the portion was very small. I would love to have the pasta again, but price to portion sizes would keep me away. Sorry no pictures, we were hungry and ate everything!
Having tried this restaurant on a whim, I can say I was pleasantly surprised. I have a couple standing favorites for when I'm looking for some good kabobs, and I may have just found another.
Good value when you're just purchasing the meats a la carte as you get almost a lb for your choice. The food seems very fresh and you can even buy it to cook at home yourself, though for the $1-2 price difference in most cases, not sure why you would except maybe for the higher end meats since they are marinaded for you.
Overall, definitely worth a try if you haven't had it before, just expect a small wait after you order since kabobs are made fresh for you, so worth the wait not to have meat that has been sitting around.
This spot is worth giving a shot. They have big portions for reasonable rates. Constantly well organized and with excellent vibes. Will come visit again.
Picked up a couple of large frozen trays of monta and also some su-beoreg. Everything was delicious and the heating instructions were super easy. We liked to dip in the sauces or pour over right before eating to keep them crunchy. We will be back soon!
Wow, the food is amazing! I came with my mom, and we both have tiny appetites. I figured we'd eat 1/3 and take the rest home. Nope, she polished off almost all of it just by herself. I was glad we had gotten another order to-go! The monta tastes like little treasures of crunchy-yet-soft dough with perfectly seasoned balls of meat. The sauces are so yummy. I recommend getting all three, but the spicy tomato sauce is pretty darn spicy so get that one on the side if you want to be cautious. If you like garlic, you will LOVE the garlic sauce. The su-beoreg was perfect. Like the monta, it's crispy and soft at the same time. The cheese filling is creamy, but substantial. I can't wait to come back.
Family-owned restaurant with warm service and nice staff. Salmon sandwich was delicious and a good value.
Wonderful people and wonderful food. Everything is made fresh to order, with love. Healthy salmon sandwich beats getting a burger down the street. Fresh baked cheese pastry is out of this world savory masterpiece. Armenian lasagna is unique - spices like I’ve never had cooled with white sauce.
Im from San Diego every time we come to LA we have to stop by. I love this place! I dont have to make manta anymore! Thank you!
First time having monta and it was great. The service was amazing. Be aware that if you choose to dine in there is limited seating.like 3 tables.
Another great mom and pop food place in the area serving authentic food. Great service and you can get them frozen to bake at home too.
This tiny place offers huge flavor! The Manti here is amazing. I had the Manti soup which was very flavorful and just perfectly executed. Then had a large order of the Manti with the garlic sauce and the tomato sauce, it was amazing. I haven't had Manti with mint before but it worked and I ended up taking 3 more boxes home for the rest of my family. They also sell frozen Manti for a great price and precooked trays of Manti. I definitely recommend this place to everyone.
The hummus here is amazing, but most people already know this! I ate from the location in Whole Foods on Philadelphia Ave. You get a huge portion of hummus, some salad, and fresh pita bread. So fresh! The hummus is extra creamy so it must be loaded with olive oil. Very good.
Salmon sandwich, excellent. The Tahini i sauce and lemon really add to the flavor. Thick cut of salmon. Monta dish was incredible, crispy on the bottom and this time I for the white garlic sauce and hot sauce all together excellent. Tasted like Armenian lasagna to me. Cheese beoreg is the best in town. This place is a hidden gem, with nice friendly folks the owners I assume running it. I'll be back!
Sooooo good!
Homemade Armenian dumplings with garlic mint yogurt and hot chilli sauce.
My mouth is watering thinking about it.
Eat here now.
