Total scam! Few things to be careful with Sunpower & their contracts. I chose to lease my solar panels, was told that if I did automatic payments I will get a discount. Never received the discount & always got the run around on getting it fixed. Now that i'm selling my house, I asked for a release of contract & payoff since the new home buyers want to buy the solar panels. I was given a quote at the beginning of escrow, and now that i'm close to closing. They came back & said they made a mistake & are charging a 4k difference from the original amount. Asked SunPower for documentation on how that came about. Devon, the manager said, the representative that originally gave us the buyoff quote does not know what they are doing, and eventhough it was a mistake on their behalf. They will not honor the original buyoff quote. I asked for documentation on what was left to payoff & the manager said they do not know how they came up with their own numbers, but thats what it was. Be careful folks! SunPower apparently does not even have traceability of their own documentation.
Followed the "advice" the Sunpower owner replied with. Still nothing resolved & Sunpower can't seem to provide me with a detailed breakdown on how they came about the final numbers.

Don't bother. The office calls go to the Philippines - you can't talk to anyone - and if you can - you get morons that can only read off a script. Panels - they have lasted. Hardware to connect to them - not so much - they have been to my home a few times over the years - and never bothered to replace the antenna in their unit - it was on 2G - yes, 2G - what that means is - it doesn't work - and the morons have no idea what to do with it - they can open tickets - and nothing can happen. Find a local person to install - and you have their phone number and contact info - otherwise- you are screwed. Run away.

Horrible service. First and foremost their customer service is overseas.

Second the company is not unhelpful but they delay getting required paperwork to the electric company which delays the electricity provider allowing the user of solar panels.

Not a great company by any stretch of the imagination.

After two years of no service, they haven't been able to restore my service, and they expect me to pay anyway.

I pay Sunpower $200 every month. The solar panel has broken down and they haven’t repaired it for nearly two years. They are not afraid of me going to court to sue. If I lose, I have to buy it in full immediately. If you sell your house, the buyer will not buy the solar panel. The house cannot be transferred!

Stay away from solar energy, stay away from sunpower

solar energy company
The left hand defrauds customers of money (free installation is claimed to save monthly electricity bills),
The right hand defrauded the government of subsidy money
It is recommended not to install it. My house will have solar energy when I bought it. Now
The buyback rate is too low, as low as 1 cent per kilowatt (that’s funny). All the electricity produced during the day is given to the power company for free. Moreover, it costs $500 to replace a solar panel. The roof needs to be replaced, and the insurance company does not cover solar disassembly and assembly. Paying more than 10,000 out-of-pocket is really not recommended.change. Too much trouble in the later stage

SunPower just stopped by my home in South Orange County. I had an in-home meeting with them for a quote a few months back, and I panicked thinking we had an appointment I had forgotten about and I was already 15 minutes late for work. When I opened the door, I said, "oh my goodness, I don't think I had an appointment today. " The Sunpower representative said, "oh you don't. " I told him that I was so sorry, but I already had a quote from the company and that I was 15 minutes late for work. He interrupted me and said "Oh this will only take a minute" I repeated myself, that I was late for work and didn't have time, and he interrupted me again and said it would only take a minute. Honestly, I lost it. So dismissive and unkind. I called customer service afterwords, and they were equally rude and dismissive. Very surprising. Guess we won't be going with SunPower.

Thumbs down for SunPower panels and service as well as their warranty.
This company will try their best to ignore you once you buy their panels. Need technical support? You will be linked to a service hot line overseas!?
Just a big mess and unreliable company! Be warned.

Have a system. "Installed and shows as 3.2KW" was part of a condo complex and install was done so poorly, that we cannot identify our panels from our neighbors, 60% of the panels are in shaded areas. We never get over 1.8KW even over 100' direct sun days in SoCal. Not worth it. Customer support was lackluster (we bought, didn't lease) so they said, "You are on your Own" we don't support them if you own them. Not our fault they were installed that way (who the heck installed them then?). Overall, as solar goes, this is the worst I have ever seen in the industry.

I’m currently in middle of having a Solar System and Main Panel upgrade by Sunpower. I signed the agreement with Sunpower on 12/16/2023. I was inform via email and phone call that both the Solar Panels and the Main Panel upgrade work was scheduled for 3/9/2023.

On 3/9/2023
Only the Solar System was completed. No work for Main Panel was started or completed. First payment was made on 3/13/2023.

On 5/12/2023
Sunpower’s Subcontracted Electrician worked on the Main Panel upgrade and left the property without informing me. The installation of the main panel was NOT Acceptable. I work in the Utility Industry and it is the ugliest Main Panel installation I have ever seen. Additionally, one of the circuit was not complete. I called Sunpower and the earliest Sunpower could schedule their Electrician was for 5/15/2023.

On 5/15/2023
Sunpower electrician saw the Main Panel installed by their Subcontracted Electrician and told me that the Main Panel was installed poorly and will not pass inspection. Sunpower electrician said they will not reinstall my Main Panel because the Main Panel was originally installed by their subcontractor and that the subcontractor have to come back to fix the poorly installed Main Panel. Therefore, the Sunpower Electrician only completed the previous uncompleted circuit that was missed on 5/12/2023. I informed Sunpower Project Coordinate of my dissatisfaction and the main panel needed to be install correctly.

On 5/22/2023
Sunpower still requested a rough inspection by Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS). LADBS sited multiple violation. I continue to express my dissatisfaction and frustration to Sunpower Project Coordinator. Sunpower did not provide timeline or solution.

On 6/9/2023
Sunpower requested a second rough inspection by LADBS and their subcontracted inspector. The LADBS Inspector saw the Main Panel and noted no correction was made. The subcontracted inspector also acknowledged that the installation is poor. I requested the Sunpower Project Coordinate for a corrective action plan.

On 6/29/2023
The Sunpower Project Coordinate said their electrician was able to address the corrections with the inspector and will be holding an inspection on 7/5 and then stucco repair on 7/6.

On 6/30/2023
I emailed Sunpower back asking how is it possible for their electrician to address the correction when they have not been back to house to physically fix the multiple violation sited by LADBS. Both the Sunpower Project Coordinator and Sales Person stopped replying to my emails.

On 7/5/2023
A LADBS inspector (scheduled by Sunpower) showed up at my house to inspect the Main Panel Upgrade correction. The inspector again noted no correction were made. I asked him why he was here, he said he was requested to inspect the correction by the electrician.

I am extremely feed up with Sunpower Project Coordinator and their subcontracted Electrician. I have requested Sunpower to provide a clear corrective action plan and to physically correct the inaccurately installed Main Panel upgrade multiple times. It seem like Sunpower only want wrap up the projects, collect my money and move on. Ultimately leaving the customer with poor quality product and service.

After my review on Trustpilot and ConsumerAffair, Sunpower Escalations Specialist contacted me via email on 7/7/2023.
On 7/10/2023
I provide all the previous emails and information I had to the Sunpower Escalations Specialist.

On 7/11/2023
Sunpower Escalations Specialist emailed me with the BS. They did not provide any details on the resolution.

On 7/11/2023
I replied to the Sunpower Escalations Specialist email and request a detail corrective action plan.

After another 2 weeks, on 7/28/2023.the Escalations Specialist again replied back with the same BS. They did not provide any details to address my concerns. I have already paid 40% of the total project (Back in March 2023). I have Solar on my roof, but it's not connected to the grid. It has been 100 degree and I can't run my A/C with Solar.

Been trying to get payment back for when the system wasn't working. The company keeps emailing that they will get back to us at a certain date or will call back and they haven't. We have been emailing and trying to get this done for over half a year. I am getting ready to call a lawyer or send it in to Let Joe Know so something will actually get done. We have given them all the information they have asked for and they still won't do their job and get us the payment they owe us.

They do not honor their supposed 25 year warranty. I have a solar system down due to a bad inverter. They keep saying the part has been backordered for the past 4 months! I don't get any updates unless I call them and even then it's the same message. I have not been offered any alternative solutions to get my system back up. Please go with sunrun or Tesla. At least they will honor their warranties.

Update 6/8/23 - If I can go down to a negative start, I would. An escalation specialist reached out to me to say the same thing as before and promised an update on 6/1 and of course I have not gotten a response. So now it's almost half a year without solar service. I don't think I have a choice except to consult with a legal counsel.

I feel like I got screwed for trying to expand my system before the 2.0 to 3.0 change. I had 9 panels previously installed bought and installed by SunPower, then they sold me 15 more to max out my back roof. Little did they want to mention that it would be a completely separate system where they wouldn't integrate it with their existing system that had wiring within my walls, they instead installed ghetto-rigged long twisted conduit up the side of my house for the new panels and new breaker boxes and another SunPower box outside of my house where my existing 9 panels is on the inside. The panels are also installed differently where their existing ones are flush with my roof and the new ones are on a bracket that requires some type of chicken wire underneath to keep birds out. Ghetto rigged and rushed is the simplest way to put it.what a mistake.

Door-to-door sales in most cities require a licence from the city, Sun Power does not respect the local laws established by our community.so i don't respect them.

BUYER BEWARE! I've only been "online" about 2-3 weeks and already I've had issues twice with my panels. When I call Sunpower for assistance, I have to wait a minimum of 20 minutes before I get someone. Then they have to transfer me.another 20-25 minutes on hold. "Fortunately" they have been able to fix the problems remotely. But already having multiple issues in the first couple of weeks! Not too confident about the quality of the system. Like the other reviewer said.once the system is installed the project manager seems to "disappear" and not respond to emails. Not a good impression of Sunpower.

Update: 10/11/2022
I had another issue with my solar system that Sunpower "escalated". I had not heard ANYTHING from Sunpower in 5-6 days so I emailed their "customer support" on 10/03/2022. AGAIN, NO RESPONSE IN 5 DAYS! I emailed them a "second request" on 10/08/2022 as to the status of the "escalated" case. STILL AS OF TODAY 10/11/2022 THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED. GREAT CUSTOMER SUPPORT AFTER THEY HAVE YOUR $$$$$! I spent OVER $40,000 on my solar project and Sunpower did not have the decency to even reply to my phone calls and emails (I estimate at least 20 attempts to reach them).

Update: 10/25/2022
FINALLY GOT A RESPONSE FROM SUNPOWER ON 10/24/2022! It has been OVER 1 month since I originally contacted them and MULTIPLE REQUESTS FOR UPDATES. Then they have the NERVE to ask me to fill out a customer "satisfaction survey"! They advertise heavily on TV, but once they sell you their system, you are no longer a priority for them! LEARN FROM MY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, I REGRET PURCHASING FROM SUNPOWER!

Update: February 2023
The above mentioned "response" from Sunpower on 10/24/2022 got NO ACTION! Finally on Dec. 10/2022 I got feed up dealing with Sunpower and their "escalated cases". I turned to the BBB. They contacted Sunpower on my behalf and gave them until Jan. 05,2023 to respond and resolve my issue. Well needless to say, 1/05/2023 came and went and STILL NO RESOLUTION from Sunpower. Ask yourself, is this the kind of company you want to deal with? They can make any kind of promise and guarantee, but if they don't respond to your needs.what good is their promises and guarantees? I know my review is approaching 1,000 views so hopefully I can help some of you from the headaches I am dealing with.

I want to say I am completely dissatisfied with this company. They reached out to me regarding going solar back in august of 2022. After reviewing their proposal and that of others, I decided to go with them due to their pricing but clearly their customer service and response is an indicator of their lower cost. After doing a site review and proposal, they realized some roof work may need to be gone post their initial inspection. The roof work wasn't an issue it was just 0 communication about what needed to be done, how much or when. Just several emails about being notified about it and that I should be contacted by their employee Sanjay who must've quit or was fired because he never messaged me since his original sales call. I have since went with another company and still hearing I should have an update and it's January 2023.
