Greg was great and has a lot of experience. We are absolutely happy and thrilled with the project he completed for us. I would recommend Greg to anyone.

The only issue I had was the place he recommended to get all the hardware and BBQ. I would recommend doing own research on personal taste items.

Greg respected my time and my money, and was transparent and honest throughout the entire process. As a first time homeowner, I was unsure about many things. Instead of trying to take advantage of me, he treated me as a friend and gave honest advice on what would be best for my home. The results turned out better than I could have imagined, and I am so glad that I found this company! In this day and age, it seems people are often just looking to make a quick buck, but Greg has the traditional values of character and integrity that was very refreshing. Highly recommend!

Greg was amazing to work with. This isn’t the first time we’ve built a patio on one of our homes, but this was by far the most amazing experience. From helping guide me through the permit process to staying in communication of when materials would arrive and be built, working with Greg and his team was effortless and enjoyable. We love the quality of our patio and appreciate Greg’s recommendations to make sure it was right for our home.

We are very happy with how our new backyard entertainment area turned out. Greg designed and installed a beautiful water feature with a fire bowl and built-in seating, a covered patio with a ceiling fan and lights, a pad (with rebar) for our new spa, and connecting walkways. We started out with some rough ideas about what we wanted to do in our small backyard, but Greg’s suggestions and design drawings really helped us to decide on an attractive design with an end result that has really exceeded our expectations. His detailed estimates allowed us to select a design that fit within our budget. Greg and his crews moved backyard drains, ran gas and electrical lines, and poured concrete that they cut with diagonal lines and then brushed in alternating directions with precise attention to detail, giving us very attractive pads and walkways that look much better than plain concrete. The stonework that they did on the water/fire feature was also done with the same attention to detail, and it looks great! They finished up with a patio cover with a fan and lights (and a gutter) that not only looks great but is solid and well-built.
Thanks to Greg/Sunset Construction we have an attractive and enjoyable outdoor area that we are looking forward to sharing with family!

Professional and Detailed.

Having Sunset Construction (Greg and Crew) build our outdoor kitchen, fire pit, and covered patio was a great decision. The entire process was painless and we could not be more thrilled with the final product. Of all the contractors, Greg was the only one that provided a detailed, itemized bid that was easy to understand, which led to no "surprise charges/change orders. " The bid also included plans that were easy to understand/visualize, and Greg spent considerable time taking in my input and answering questions - again, leading to no surprises. Greg even spent time with me to draw the plans out on my concrete using chalk so I knew exactly where things were going to be situated once built. Whether it was a phone call, email, and/or text, Greg made himself available as soon as possible, and this was even before we signed a contract.

The bbq island turned out better than we could have hoped. The workmanship of Greg's crew is obvious - please see picture. I can tell the Crew takes pride in their work, and the attention to detail was obvious. Whenever something unexpected came up, Greg and/or his Crew immediately reached out to me for my input so that the issue could be addressed amicably. Again, take a look at the picture and the masonry work on the bbq island is darn near perfect.

The covered patio they built was put up in a day, and this is a 15' x 32' structure. But the efficiency at which they built the covered patio matched the quality of their work. The photo only shows a small portion of the covered patio but it looks immaculate. The two tone look combined with the canned lights and fan really brings the whole project together.

The fire pit is not shown in the picture but is another work of art Sunset Construction built for us. It is a 3'x5' fire pit with the masonry to match the bbq island. It looks fantastic and has already been used a few times now during this chilly nights.

Sunset Construction is highly recommended. Greg and Crew are responsive, professional, and take great pride/care in their work.

I highly recommend Greg and his team for all your backyard and patio needs. He is attentive to detail, professional, and provided updates along the way from start to finish. He helped me put together the right patio for the size of my yard. I am already planning ideas for my next project and will definitely be contacting Greg when I’m ready.

I recently received a quote from Greg at Sunset for a decent sized (2,300 sqft) concrete project. After reviewing the estimate I asked him how much it would cost to add in some expansion joints. He then questioned me on why I think I need expansion joints. I responded nicely and told him why I felt like it was important. Granted I am a Civil Engineer, so I know a little bit about concrete. This was then his response:

“Thank you for your Google information. I am well aware of what expansion joints are for and know that they are totally unnecessary in our California climate. You should research what part of the country your information is coming from to know that you don’t need them.

Secondly, we are not pouring concrete during the heat of summer unless you’re procrastinating your project until then. This is an excellent time to pour concrete and give it plenty of time to cure. ”

Everyone should be aware of this customer service. In addition to this lovely email exchange he felt the need to smoke a cigarette while he was at my house discussing and measuring for the estimate.

We had a beautiful Alumawood pergola built as well as a cement patio and rock work. The flagstone pillars are absolutely gorgeous! Greg Perger has great attention to detail and has quality craftspeople working with him. Everyone was very professional and we were kept informed thru all phases of construction.

Extended my drive way, installed a side walk from front yard to back yard and installed cement patio. Ensured that my drainage lines were moved to a better location and did not get covered. Super fast and convenient. Really impressed by thier quality of work and ensuring I was satisfied. Highly recommend Sunset Construction for all your home projects!

Greg and his crew did a great job on our backyard BBQ and bar top area (work included concrete demo and re-pour, electrical/lighting, natural gas addition and a small pergola-type structure). Greg was prompt in all phases of the job, even starting the job a few weeks earlier than we had originally planned. I generally knew what I wanted, but Greg was more than willing to provide guidance on the various design/construction elements. His masonry/concrete guys (brothers, Felix and Jose) were awesome.they worked extremely hard, paid attention to all the details and were very courteous. My family is very happy with the final work product and would definitely recommend Sunset Construction.

The worst customer acquisition skills and he will even talk down to you as well.

His ability to treat some decent over the phone was piss poor at best. With constant corrections on verbiage, and extreme attitude. Then he didn't bother to listen to what I needed or wanted, then tried to up the size of the base building, before he even realized the stone work or money it really would of costed to get me what I needed. So Greg may of been good at this one time or another. But I'd be wary of doing business with such a person.

He not only demeaned me as a person, he then tried to bilk me for a larger structure:

"I can't pull my guys off another project to make a litte building. " I Responded, 12 x 16 larger if it will fit, told him I still need to get over to the new property, to really scope it out! I then made it clear I was looking for a higher fit and finish: Stone and wood, like his website showed, yet he was more interested on correcting the name I was calling it "Gazebo" Okay cover patio then, the fact of the matter is if he starts with this kind of condescension, how does it progress, and what little care would such a person have for you after your project is finished, my guess is even less than I was shown during the first phone call.

He responded with more condescension, than most would endure. He failed to take the time to listen to the fact I wanted a nice stone and wood structure, like his main picture shows. Instead he carelessly said: I do 25k - 100k projects, (my thought exactly that was in fact my budget for this 'Cover Patio') He failed to even mention his minimum size project anywhere on his site, nor is that minimum reflected half the picture he displays, for what he can do for you.

So basically if you don't have a 25k project this guy doesn't need your business. He didn't even need my business, at it was in fact in the criteria he is looking for, a way to scam you for his main money makers.

Meanwhile half of his construction picture are off the exact size I needed made. So what is it?

The end conclusion I was left with: go with the dozens of real construction companies that are capable of having crews for all sorts of projects, no matter how small or large your project is, someone else will take care of you much better. Nor did he bother to listen to me, he judged me and then disregarded every single word I said after that. Kept trying to push a patio extension when I said very clearly at the start of the conversation I need a Gazebo" you mean a free standing structure, condescension, condescension. " He was more perturb and perplexed by by the name I was calling it, then the job at hand, when is pleasing people and making money.

Fresno and the central valley is filled with quality builders, pick another one, this one seems to be nothing but problems.

Greg was very professional throughout the entire install of our pergola and built in bbq island. He came back multiple times to work with us when we couldn't quite figure out what we wanted. He talked us through the entire project and always kept in contact. What I liked most about working with Greg, was his punctuality and communication, if he said he or his guys were going to be there, they were there. I highly reccomend Greg if you're looking to make your backyard better!

When Greg first came out to measure and bid on my patio project we discussed the slope of the new cement pad and how it would extend the existing pad and slope away from my house for proper drainage. I failed to have this detail written in our contract with instructions to consult me if there were changes.live and learn.

The new cement work turned out beautiful, however the new pad sloped towards the existing cement instead of what we discussed earlier. Greg explained why it had to done that way, but I wasn’t consulted before hand. If I was I would have suggested adding a proper drainage system and would have gladly paid for the additional cost.

After it rained, water puddled in the middle of the patio and it was clear that the existing cement joints were insufficient to carry water off the patio. Greg and his cement crew responded quickly and increased the depth and slope of the joint where it was needed for proper flow.

In addition we discovered a pre-existing issue with a roof bird-stop which caused rain to leak between the facia and the gutter and on to the patio. I will need to pay for the repair myself since the issue is pre-existing, however I should have included in the contract that any pre-existing issue that could potentially adversely affect the project be brought to my attention. If the patio installers had recognized the potential issue and brought it up we could have fixed it then.

I gave Sunset 3 stars because of the issues described above. I realize I should have included specific details and protections in the contract so some of this on me. I would recommend Sunset to others with the caveat that you include all the details in the contract and stipulate that you be consulted when a deviation is needed. Greg is easy to work with and his workers are professional. All in all the new patio looks beautiful.
