The instructor, Can Akkaya, is amazing! He is an expert and is a highly skilled rider. He explains things very clearly and patiently. I had an amazing time in his beginner's 1 on 1 course! And I plan to enroll in more of his classes. I highly recommend the Superbike-coach classes with instructor Can!

Why did I sign up? For years, I rode my motorcycle to California, and for that ~1600 mile round trip, a sport touring bike was key to enjoying long days of triple digit sightseeing. After moving to California, I decided that a different bike was needed for weekend canyon carving, and the day after I bought that bike, I signed up for Cornering School Days 1 and 2.

Why this school? A go-kart track is ideal for getting lots of cornering practice per lap. It’s ridiculously cheap for a full day of riding and coaching. This school was recommended by coworkers, friends, and fellow reviewers.

Why Coach? Coach Can has a racing pedigree that is enviable to many racers, not just mere motorcyclists. In addition, his passion for teaching is evident from the first minute, where he draws people in with interactive conversations while also being completely self-deprecating about non-motorcycle life. He is also incredibly observant and detail oriented. As he interacts with each person in class, he begins to know the person long before he sees them sitting on or riding a motorcycle. He coaches the entire group just enough prior to the riding session, he coaches from the side of the track, he coaches the students watching from the sidelines, and he coaches the entire group after the riding session is over. Later, you might get a chance to ride behind him, and lo and behold, even if you are not riding directly behind him, you’ll get feedback on your riding!:)

Cornering school day 1: this first class can be summarized as brain rewiring and motorcycle mythbusting. There are so many fears in motorcycling from yourself, peers, family, and culture. And that fear can be so detrimental to street riding. So, he brings logic and physics to the forefront. The logic focuses on the mental aspect of riding, where he retrains your brain to counter fear. He shared many techniques that are helpful to reducing and eliminating fear.

Then he breaks down the physics of motorcycling to fundamentals: how to choose the right gear and how you know that you’re using the right gear (simple physical motorcycle cues that I hadn’t paid much attention to before), how and when to apply throttle to change lines (even without steering input), how to pick lines and why even street riders need to care about lines (cattle guards, turkeys, rocks, cars, pedestrians, etc.), how and when to use brakes (he summarized MotoGP as an hour of emergency braking).

By the end of Cornering Day 1, there had been many motorcycle myths that were busted, and he knows that there’s some settle time / bake time needed to grok All The Things. This is where brain rewiring starts…

As a relatively new rider, I highly appreciate Coach's teaching! First I took a street rider 1: 1, which fundamentally changes the way I ride, in particular in terms of line selection and controlling my vision. It made riding so much more enjoyable! The cornering school helped me solidify that knowledge, and gave me some first experience on a small track. I love Coach's no BS approach to teaching, and his focus on mindset! I can't wait for the next cornering school, and I'm certain to take more 1: 1s in the future!

I have taken the Day 1 and Day 2 cornering class, and plan to sign up for Day 3. Coach has really helped me become a better and more confident rider. The classes gets all types of riders and are broken down by skill group, so dont worry if you are a newbie. There are predominantly sport bikes, but there are also cruisers, sport tours, and adventure riders peppered in.

I am also doing my first track day too, something I thought I would never do. But as you take Coach's classes you realize these are the best and safest learning environments.

These classes are an investment in myself as a rider. As riders we can easily spend $200 - $400 on upgrades on our bikes but rarely do we spend this money on our own training. If you are thinking about taking a class, do yourself a favor and just signup.

Wanted to provide an update. I signed up for the 9/8/18 track day, first track day I have ever done. Will say that Coach Can's enthusiasm and emphasis on maintaining a respectful riding session made the track day an excellent learning environment and a ton of fun. Highly recommend Coach's cornering classes. He encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone and sign-up for the track day - glad I did.

This is an update from the 4/29/19 Day 3 cornering class. I am glad I finished the cornering class series, a level of accomplishment. For me, the skills that hit home were trailbreaking and breaking while in a lean, which could be utilized in an emergency. If you have a desire for more track work there are additional advance skills taught in Day 3, but honestly my brain for the day was full.

Although i have completed the cornering series, I will re-take Day 1 and 2 classes as refreshers. I think the wheelie course will be fun too!

Update from the 12/5/21 Day 2 cornering class. The new addition was Coach walked us through the course giving us markers/ way points along the way. Really helped with the perspective of the track and connecting the different corners to see how the track flows. It was great to retake the course, which focuses on counter steering. Made me realize that I need to practice these skills more and focus on how the bike is reacting to my inputs.

Ready to take your riding to the next level? How about knowing what your bike is actually capable of? Want to learn what your bike feels like in a "emergency braking situation" but in a controlled environment? Superbike-Coach classes are for you. Coach's no nonsense approach will help you understand the what, why, how, and most importantly the feel of your bike handling. Classes are great for someone wanting to get started in racing and even more so for someone wanting to improve their road skills. Knowing what to do and what your bike is capable of will help you not panic in an emergency situation and could possibly save your life or someone else's. I had a blast and Highly recommend!

I have taken two classes so far with Coach Can Akkaya and I have already gained valuable knowledge and experience. His classes have helped me understand important key points to make me a better, safer and more confident rider, have provided a great space to do drills and receive coaching to practice what I have learned in a safe environment (pretty cool small track which is great to practice cornering), and have set me up to go out on my own on the streets and continue to practice what I have learned. Coach Akkaya is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches, and is full of heart. I am already signed up for several more classes and intend to continue practicing with Coach Akkaya, soaking up as much of what he offers as possible. Highly recommended!

Hi everyone, I recently took the wheelie class and it was great. I came into the class with no wheelie experience at all. When coach saw the footage of my first attempts he announced that I was not only a disappointment to him and the class but to my father as well, I must admit he was right. He also asked if I had left my balls at home, after a quick check I confirmed that I had in fact brought them with me. Before my bike had succumb to a catastrophic failure I was actually able to get the front wheel off the ground. The class is a blast, the coach and staff are awesome and hilarious. You won’t regret any class you take with these guys. My recommendation is that you bring your balls and stop being a disappointment to your father. I will definitely be going back for more abuse/instruction. Thanks to everyone involved for an awesome day.

What an amazing day! Head coach Akkaya is a wealth of knowledge. I feel very fortunate to have found him and to be able to benefit from his guidance and instruction.

We all want to be faster, and you will become a faster rider, but as the coach stresses, it's about safety, control, and confidence. This class is about gaining the tools you need to be a better rider, a more confident rider, and a safer rider. Whether you have years of experience, or are a new rider, there is plenty to learn from coach Akkaya. Really looking forward to the next class!

Coach was amazing and really took the time to walk me through every aspect of getting to know the bike and how to properly operate it. Being a beginner, he was kind and really focused on any hesitancy and questions I had to ensure I felt comfortable moving on to the next task of learning to ride. Within 10 minutes I was driving around the course and felt confident doing so. I was really lucky to have found him and I highly recommend anyone wanting to learn how to ride (or even those who already ride and want to be better) invest in his program. Thanks again!

I came for the Wheelie class program, but stayed for the whole Cornering program and then some. I think all this us a tremendous value especially if you’re starting to tip your toes into track riding.

I like the way Coach explains things and every class I come back a little bit smarter. Sure, there are a few f-bombs in there once and a while, but I like the unfiltered feedback.
A friend of mine said my riding skills have improved quite a bit, so that’s a testament to the cornering program actually works.

I’ve mostly been riding a 790 Duke around that go-kart track, which means I can zip around much faster that all people on the bigger/heavier bikes. But in the end it’s just good practice, doesn’t matter if the track have some slick corners etc.

The fact you have Dean around the track taking pictures of you all the time is a great bonus as well. Got a few awesome pictures out of it.

Looking forward to join Can with some 1-in-3 track drills next year… or maybe some Supermotard.

A very passionate and thrilling is one of the many words to describe Coach Can. I had a very exciting day with the 1st Cornering day program. We were taught to unlearn many bad habits and start from scratch, and he woud explain the hows and whys to it also, which made it simpler to understand and put it onto the little track. Overal, a very positive experience and I can't wait to book more classes with Superbikecoach. Not to mention each and every staff there are awesome! They only want to help you improve and learn.

I took Cornering School Day 1 a few weeks ago, and can't wait to go back for more. After just one session I felt like my street riding had really improved. Coach Can is passionate and honest, warm and funny.he handles a wide range of abilities managing to have everyone feel like they'd improved.and he explains the reasons behind his tips really well. If you show up to class with a good attitude and willing to learn, you'll have a great time.

I loved Coach Can from the first few minutes he spoke! Coach Can brings his professional knowledge and experience from the highest level in the sport. He is very passionate and honest, does not hold back. He expects your undivided attention and effort in practicing what he teaches you, DO NOT WASTE HIS TIME! What he offers, for the price, you'd be a fool not to attend ALL his classes.

The first class I took was Suspension, and the second class was cornering, with more to come. Coach Can is extremely passionate about motorcycles and it shows in his personality and coaching. I thoroughly enjoyed each class, and can’t wait for the others I signed up for. Coach has helped me with my confidence, as well as identifying things I need to improve on. Leave your ego at home and show up to class with an open mind. I guarantee you will learn a ton of new things.and become a more skilled rider.

Coach Can did a great job of explaining cornering techniques, giving us practice to implement then, and giving feedback on our technique. People say he's a tough love kind of guy, and I can see why they say that, but he's really not intimidating. Come to class with a will to learn, check your ego, and you'll have a great time. The track is a ton of fun to play and learn on.

I have taken two classes with Coach so far and have signed up for 3 more this year, which should be a testament to his teaching all by itself.
To find someone who is willing to share what they spent years of blood and sweat learning is a rare thing, but Coach is so passionate about teaching and sharing what he loves. His happiness and enthusiasm when he sees you "get it" is awesome.
I love to learn I have taken lots of different classes in lots of different things and Coach's classes are some of the most fun and most involving classes I have taken, it really does feel like a family. So my recommendation is go sign up for a class and see for yourself. Coach's teaching has definitely made me a more capable and confident rider.
