Food is a unique mix of Japanese and Jamaican. The grilled salmon rolls are different from whatever I've tried before. Great price for the quantity but 1 star for service. The elderly lady that was our server was rude, impersonal and lazy. Made our experience terrible despite the great food!

Super cool, reggae, Bob Marley, island style inspired place with high marks on everything. It can get kinda busy so plan ahead. Highly recommend.

I've been to many sushi restaurants in the area and this one by far is my favorite hands down! I LOVE the specialty sushi rolls.seriously they are very fresh and taste amazing. My husband and I frequent this location because of the good food, good vibes and reasonable prices. If you come on the weekend expect to put your name on the waiting list. It usually doesn't take too long and the food is worth the wait.

We got moved in our seats because they wanted to set up to do paperwork. I guess paperwork is better and more important than customers. Good luck with your paperwork.

I have been coming here for the better part of a year and it is my favorite sushi spot! The service is always incredible and the food is always high quality and delicious. I would name a specific server/worker but they are all always so amazing!

Got here around 2: 20 and online stated that they didn’t close til 2: 30. I called and no one answered the phone, I was at the door and saw two people in there. If they had already closed all someone had to do was come to the door and let me know. Definitely terrible customer service, will not be giving them any business.

The sushi here is excellent, super fresh, and the staff is wonderful very attentive to us. Awesome family vibes and Bob Marley Try the smokin' Jamaican, the black magic mushroom are both so bomb!

Love this place; great vibe with island decor and Bob Marley playing, nice open and airy space, friendly and attentive staff, great rolls, bentos, gyozas, sides.everything -haven't had a single bad or off item in my many visits.
Even when they are super busy, staff is amazing and on top of drinks, food flow, and whatever you need!

I have dined here 4 to 5 times. Lightning-fast service and great lively atmosphere. While I was impressed with the quick seating and friendly service, the quality of the food was a bit inconsistent.

On my most recent visit, I found that all of the sushi rolls had too much rice, which affected the ratio of filling to rice. However, the nigiri was fresh, and it's what I would recommend ordering if you decide to dine here.

Despite the fluctuating quality of the food, the restaurant is always packed, and I've never had to wait too long for a table.

I love this place and atmosphere inside it. Also the food is delicious. I am sushi lover. However, today I ordered Julian combo, I thought it would be very nice to try something new. Order was for pick up. When it was ready, I have noticed that inside my sushi there is meat inside, I asked lady at the reception and she said that this is ham. I told her, this is my mistake that I did not check the ingredients, but can you please change it because I don't eat meat and all that, except fish. She said it is your problem and you should have check the ingredients before ordering. How I am supposed to check everything, if it is sushi, I thought it is only sea food‍️

Came in for a late lunch, totally forgot they close in the afternoons but they still had their lunch specials going. The portions felt a lot for me, I've been controlling my portions for a few years so that plays a big part in my personal dining experience. They're very inviting, felt like the aloha spirit! The food was quick, hot, fresh, and so ono (delicious)! Definitely will come back, mahalo!

Absolute favorite sushi restaurant in San Diego! Can't beat the value and awesome sushi specials! If you can make it for lunch their lunch specials you cannot beat for the price.if you can't make lunch their normal specialty rolls are a great deal as well! A smaller restaurant but I've never had to wait more than 30 minutes. Staff are always super friendly and very helpful if you have any questions about the menu.

Been to both locations. Both locations the sushi was great. Always fresh and flavorful. This time we got the Spicy Tuna Poppers, spicy crab roll, crunchy roll, the Bob Marley roll and the Wailer roll last two were both 20% off making them 7.95 each. We made it in time for Happy Hour (served till 7pm) a series of items only $0.99 with a purchase of Japanese beer. Went will the Panko Fried calamari. The Bob Marley and Wailer roll were both top notch. Will definitely get again. The popper was the least favorite of the bunch. Over all great food at a great price. Good sushi in an awesome atmosphere. Reggae always playing, lots of Bob Marley and reggae decor. Clever names for their rolls. During happy hour, you can get an app for $2 with beer or sake purchase.

I always love stopping by for lunch when I'm in San Diego. They've expanded, but it's still a pretty small place. I love the Sushi Roll Combos. They are around $14-$18.00 & include 12-18 pieces of 4 different rolls. That's a great price and you get to try a few different rolls that you would not normally order. The food is super good, but Summer is rolling in. They didn't seem to be using the AC on the day I was there. But I powered through.

The Sushi Diner restaurants are the best sushi places in San Diego! The service is excellent and the theme in both restaurants is rastafarian and they have a quirky environment with Bob Marley art all over the walls and they play reggae. The quality of the food is impeccable and the prices are so reasonable. My favorite roll is the smokin Jamaican but the baked crab roll is also good, super rich and decadent. I recommend this place to all my friends and it's a place that's special to me and my sister as we sometimes get dinner here together and both love it. Never change, Sushi Diner! We love you!

Prices are good for decent/passable sushi if you want something casual. If you're looking for quality fish and diverse flavor though, don't let the high ratings fool you - it's not a "must try" or even among the best in San Diego. Quality-wise it's like a great "fast food" version of sushi rolls.

This isn't like a high-end/fancy date night spot, but good for a quick fix if you're craving and in a pinch. I'm not sure how this place got such high ratings lol

The older, Caucasian waitress was rude to my spouse and I am livid. It was my wife's birthday and the waitress was dismissive from the start, towards my wife and her special ordering of the sushi roll. My wife couldn't finish the first incorrect roll and stated it was wrong. The waitress had the audacity to tell my wife "let's be honest. " and made my wife feel like she messed up. I put 3 years ago that this was my fav sushi spot, but this was an experience I never want to relive, especially when I'm trying to provide my spouse with a pleasant experience. Never again. Food was fine.

NO! Just NO! I've been a couple of times because I really wanted to like it because its so close to home. But, NO! The food has never been good and the price should be cheaper. Every single time I get a baked roll, its burnt. All the rolls I've ever ordered had something wrong with them. The fish is fishy and shouldn't be. Good sushi is never fishy. Need to get out of mh bubble because this place is not going to cut it. The staff is nice enough but thats not enough to get me to go back. Very dissapointed, especially because we spent 140 bucks last time we ordered and it was terrible. Go to Chiba or the kuchi at least theirs is a better. Not amazing but not terrible. Do not go here.

This place is amazing! I just happened upon it due to my usual place being closed, and I'm so happy I did! The rolls are huge and the prices are fair. There are many different rolls to choose from with many unique choices. They have the usual rolls like Cali, Philly' Rainbow, etc along side their more unique choices. I would recommend the Smokin Jamaican roll as it has a very interesting smoky taste to the fish, hence the name. Additionally, there's a real neat Bob Marley/Hawaiian vibe to the restaurant makes for a nice place to dine in at. Overall an amazing gem of a restaurant!
