A bit of a wait for lunch (went on a Tuesday, expect 30-50 min) Could have not been more impressed by the freshness and delicious nature of everything prepared. Got the Sashimi Deluxe and Sashimi lunch. The Sashimi Deluxe was more than enough for two people. Contained an assortment of sashimi. 10/10 in quality and quantity. Can't wait to come back as soon as I can.

We ate sushi at the counter for lunch. The sushi here is really good. It's no different from the sushi you get in Japan.

Really, really great sushi. Had to wait about 40 minutes, but it was worth it. Everything was very fresh, and service was quick.
My only complaint was that my beef teriyaki was slightly tougher than expected, but that's on me for not going for the restaurant's specialties.

Such a delightful experience in every way. The wait is a little long but it’s so worth it. The quality, the service and the price leaves you feeling like it was the best money you ever spent.

This place was very good except there are no pictures on menu. It made me a little bit confuse to choose menu. I recommend you to try sushi deluxe combo plate.

If there's an option of a 1000 star- review, I would give it to this beloved restaurant! Husband and I have been their patrons for 30 years. Food and service have always been SUPERB! Our fav sushi bar chef, Kashu San, always is attentive and accurate in getting our orders right. Sushi and sashimi so fresh, it's like they just jumped out of the ocean onto our plates!

We’ve been coming to Sushi Gen for years. My husband loves the sashimi combination, and I always have the Gen roll. The service is always spectacular…. The only problem I have is that the last several times we’ve been in, including yesterday, a sushi chef or the owner yells and hollers at the staff. This is incredibly unprofessional. It makes us feel sorry and bad for the workers! The poor girl that was our server was reduced to tears. We love the food but after yesterday I don’t know if we’ll be back.

Sushi is absolutely the best in town. However he prepared to wait an hour to two hours on a weekend night.

Like every review on Yelp, I am chipping in my praises for this Sushi establishment. Our friend asked us to meet them for lunch here and the food was so good that we immediately thinking about what other dishes to try in our next visit.

With the Delux sashimi been the most popular item on the menu, I ordered the set and immediately experienced why this is the most ordered dish. The tuna and toro were so fresh that melt in my mouth. The Uni was so sweet and tasty that wanted to order a second. The spicy tuna was well done with right amount spiciness. The whole set was fantastic.

Since my wife hasn't had eel rice for awhile, she ordered that for lunch. It looked very good when it came out and I tried a bite. It was excellent. The eel was grilled and seasoned just right. The reminded me of the Unagi rice we had in Kyoto, Japan.

Service was very good actually despite been very busy at lunch time. The line is a bit long for our seating, but it's all worth it. The restaurant validates parking at the lot in the shopping mall.

Some people cut in and got seated before us even they came in later than us.why?
The front desk told us 25-30 minutes wait but it ended up almost one hour wait.

Amazing sushi with huge portion but reasonable price. Not a long wait at all on a weekday night. Love their hamachi, negitoro and uni. Probably is one of the best sushi I ever had in contiguous US. Would definitely come back and hope to get a seat at the sushi bar.

I visited this restaurant for lunch just today! We have friends that came from abroad and we treat them here because I had the best and delightful menu with them before. The staff was very friendly and active. Our guest was having the best time here and promised they will be back and try some of the menus we did not order earlier.

Love their lunch specials (favorite is Sashimi lunch), and sitting at their bar offers one of the best sushi bar eating experiences in LA.

Probably the best sashimi in town. Good value in the lunch/dinner combos and specials, but not in the a la carte menu.

Parking is a pain here, as the little plaza it is located in had lots of high traffic stores for the small amount of parking available, but there's always other places to park (paid parking) in Little Tokyo so it's not that bad.

Be prepared to wait. We came at 11: 05 am on a Tuesday, 5 minutes after opening, and they were already full seated at both the tables and the bar, but had 4 groups already on the waitlist. We were told it would be about 40 minutes, but since everyone was just sat, it was just short of an hour. Similarly I saw a small takeout order start when we got there that took about 40 minutes to be ready. There's a big spike in orders upon opening, so unless you're here before opening by a bit (I'd say like 10 minutes?), consider doing takeout (call ahead of time). Otherwise you play the waiting game.

Also should note they don't take your phone number so you must wait there physically, and they don't add you to the waitlist until your whole party is here. Quite a strict policy.

Service people are very nice and friendly though.

Ordered a normal lunch chirashi, a sashimi lunch special, a small tempura (off a la carte), and a chicken karaage (also off a la carte).

Chirashi was really good. Fish and rice were good, but obviously since there is a deluxe version, the fish isn't the most expensive ones. The miso soup included is very good. Surprisingly good actually, very well seasoned, not too salty and not undersalted.

Sashimi lunch was very big, a variety of very fresh fish, both raw and cooked. The plain white rice is.pretty damn good. I wouldn't mind just eating pure rice if it was always this good. Miso soup also included.

Small order tempura - tasted god, and not oily, but for 6 pieces $12 is a bit too much to pay. It did come with two shrimp, so not only veggies.

Chicken karaage - one of the best I've had in terms of a balance between crisp-ness, flavour (just right to me, but might be a but light for others), and almost no oil taste, which makes it easy to digest. Only problem that for $8 it's 4 pieces. Considering there's pretty good karaage at Little Tokyo across the street for for less price and at least double the portion, only order if you're feeling special.

Overall, Avery nice experience outside of the long wait (which to be fair is very long). Their reputation is well deserved, even if it's a pain to go to.

The sushi is fresh but not worth it. Trying to get a seat at the bar for lunch and watch them seat several parties ahead of me to avoid having one empty seat since I’m alone. My 1 person amount of dollars isn’t worth their time apparently.
