Don't call after hours, the lady was very rude. She said I wasn't on my dads " contacts", I asked who made up the list of contacts because I wanted to see how my dad was doing. I told her he didn't have much time and she interrupted me and told me SHE didn't have time either and hung up. Wow, frickin unbelievable, real professional to treat family member who's dad is dying. I called back, spoke to Melissa, very empathetic to my situation and got me her supervisor, another Melissa. Both Melissa were very NICE and informed me of what I needed to do. That first gal needs to go, she has no empathy and with this job, you need to listen and understand the situation and direct. Don't EVER compare my dads time in life with her time at her job. SHAME ON YOU!

So, I've waited over 2 years to leave my review thinking i would see things more clearly or perhaps i missed something during all of my grief, but I didnt, and I STILL cannot shake the fact of how incompetent the nurse was that they sent out. My family member came home from Sutter hospital on hospice and once past the initial meeting with the hospice nurse that was assigned to my family member, (a male nurse, and I had no problem with that) he would NOT return to do a check on my family member, even though I called him and I was frantic. His response when I requested him to please come check my family member was a heartless "NO" nothing else, just no. I was LIVID! And he claimed to only live about 5-10 mins from our home. Absolutely heartless, uncaring, incompetent, I wouldn't wish this hospice on anyone. When you have someone on hospice, and need help and request a visit from the nurse assigned, that nurse should come out to check the patient, REGARDLESS of what the final outcome is going to be, which we all know what that is, death. Isn't that part of the job of the hospice nurse to come if needed/requested, isnt that what hes being PAID to do? ! Afterall he made NO visits other than the initial "hi I'm nurse _" visit. Unacceptable, incompetent. I am still mad about this 2 years later and I don't think anything can be said to make it better. In my opinion, If you're looking for compassionate care, keep looking because this is NOT the place, you wont receive it. And in my opinion, the nurse was only out for his paycheck at the end of the week. He couldn't care less. Disgusting.
The aide that came out to bathe my family member was compassionate, caring and sweet. I hope she went on to work for another company by now, she's too good for this place. Bottom line:
If you're looking for caring compassionate hospice care for a family member, do yourself and your family member a favor and keep looking.

My dad was placed on hospice with Sutter Care at home and we had an awful experience. His main nurse was incompetent. Our whole family watched my dad suffer horrific pain for 7 days straight at the end of his life. I am a nurse and I had to request medications to help make my dad comfortable. I did not want to be a nurse at the end of his life. I wanted to spend as much time with him as I could before he passed. On a positive note, the aide was wonderful, as was a nurse we had visit in his final 20 hours of life.
