Look at all the terrible reviews they have before ordering and take your business elsewhere! Plenty of well deserving local bakeries out in Bakersfield and this for SURE is not one of them. Their cakes don’t even taste good to begin with but we were left with no choice for a last minute occasion, and the ladies there are incredibly rude and condescending, not to mention childish. Who hangs up on a paying customer mid call and then hangs up immediately after answering 5 times straight right after? The Karens at sweet surrender, that’s who. Haha nope.

We always get all our Birthday cakes my favorite is lemon and my sister is the matterhorn which we will be having this weekend

I was expecting better. My wife and I tried this place for the first time and everything looked promising but nothing was much better than you can get a some grocery store bakeries. They did a decent job at keeping the cake part of our cupcakes and cakes moist but the icing is where things fell apart. It seems they use the same, mostly flavorless, simple sugar icing (some of it rather gritty) on several of the different cupcakes and cakes we tried. I tried a slice of pumpkin roll, Italian cream cake, red velvet and birthday cake cupcakes and all had the same flavorless gritty icing. If they worked on the icing then they would have something worth going back to because the store, presentation and service was very nice. It needs to be a few steps up from a grocery store bakery for me to come back.

Sweets are always great. Most employees are wonderful. One employee behind the counter was putting my peice of cake in a bag. I said that mine was a separate order and that I hadn't paid for it yet and my friend said if looks could kill I would have been dead. Next time you can put it in the bag and I guess I get free cake.

I called today to place an order, without even exaggerating I called 8-10 times back to back, every time they’ll pick up and hang up. Finally someone picked up and she RUDE as can be, and mid sentence I hunged up on her and called Smiths Bakery?

Go in there and try the cookies the salted caramel chocolate chip cookie is to die for. The snickerdoodles chocolate chips and triple chocolate cookies are worth the trip alone.

Every time I visit Bakersfield a visit to SS is necessary. You won't be disappointed.

Amazing just amazing! But. Their prices are highway robbery sad to say. 1 slice of cake is now almost 7$ may have to take a break from them for a while?

TOO many decisions. Everything is great. Best cookies, cupcakes and cakes around. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

I cannot say enough about this little gem of a Bakery store & gifts. The cookies are to die for. I've eaten a lot. Here is a photo of my LAST DELICIOUS COOKIE that I have The cupcakes? Come in so many flavors to choose. Your eyes will roll & DELICIOUSNESS in every bite. Chocolate pretzel sticks to candy & caramels & gifts & toys? & stuff animals & children's books. Even goodies for your doggy if you want. They also make some KILLER Rice Krispy treats as well. The staff is always nice & friendly & pretty fast on serving & helping you with anything you want. The cakes are even better at this place. I always love the cake with the sprinkles it's wonderful. Brownies & other baked goods depend on which day you choose to stop by. All in all its a wonderful little shop. I even managed to get my mom some really beautiful smelling perfume there as well. You gotta stop by & get some goodies.

The woman that was supposed to help us was VERY rude. Didn’t try to hide it either. My daughter and I went in there so excited because it was her birthday and ended up leaving there so upset. And to make matters worse, the limon cupcakes gave me food poison. My daughter thank GOD didn’t have any because of her experience there. Don’t plan on going back

At first I wasn’t sure I could trust the reviews I read. So I did what anyone that likes to make their own mind up would do, I bought the entire German chocolate cake. Sure, It’s pricy. Final verdict: it is worth every penny. First of all, know what you’re getting into. You don’t like overbearing chocolate flavor? Get something with some vanilla mixed in. You don’t like pecans? Stay away. Not a fan of coconut? Get something more plain.
If you answered no to the above questions, this is the closest thing to a homemade German chocolate cake you can get! Do note there is a fee charged if you want them to write on your cake. Alternatively, you can get your own colors from the store and doodle away. I saved a slice in the fridge to see how it would taste later. It doesn’t lose flavor or texture, but I recommend letting it reach room temp before you dig in.

Bad customer service today 3-16-2022. I called 10 times they answer the phone
and ang up. I was calling to order a couple cakes I guess I never order from this place.

Those days I'm having a sweet tooth, Sweet Surrender is my go 2! Great customer service and the most delicious EVERYTHING!

Asked for a gift wrap upfront said it would be a dollar, wrapped in clear bag and ribbon, asked for a bag to carry in (which we usually get without any charge) after I was charged for the cupcakes I was told the bag is 25cents. Very disappointed they would rather loose a customer over a 25cent bag. Very few people carry cash it wasn’t about the 25cents. Very poor customer service.
