My son Daniel has been fencing for almost a year. He loves his private classes with coach Mary and the group classes on the weekend. Truly and amazing sport and teaches kids a lot. It’s a fun challenge for them and if you were to bring your child… I can assure you they’d have a blast.

Finding Swordplay L. A.has been a great gift as an actor. I have been a swordfighter for over 10 years. When I moved to L. A.it was very refreshing to find a studio that solely focused on fighting classes for the entertainment industry. Mary and her team are top notch! I can't recommend Swordplay L. A.enough!

We parents, recently joined our 7yr old kid to learn fencing. The facility is conveniently located in the strip mall with plenty of parking. During this lock down, the classes offered are private/ semi private and price is reasonable. Ryan the instructor is very good. Right from day 1 the class fun and interesting. After 2 months my kid is still interested and looks forward to the class.
The place is kept very clean and the jacket used is washed after each use. There is free play time that is also offered for practice. Overall a good place to start a new sport.

Went here 2 years ago for the summer camp and it was an amazing experience. The staff made the experience extremely enjoyable and I would completely recommend this place to anybody that is interesting in learning how to fence.

Hi Googler.

First off: Health and safety protocols are strictly enforced at Swordplay. They’re all about the masks and the distancing and the hand sanitizer.

Now:
You know how kids outgrow things they were once obsessed with—like Minecraft or Harry Potter or the tuba or skateboarding or hula hooping? Our son started classes at Swordplay when he was seven. He’s twelve now. Nearly half his life. And he loves fencing more than ever.

Everyone who works at Swordplay knows their stuff, and every instructor is attentive and patient. Mary and Ryan run the place and they’re excellent people, and excellent fencers. Under their loving care the school has undergone a considerable upgrade. The fencing strips have electronic scoring, the a/c is kicking, and there’s no douchey gym vibe. You know what I mean.

One thing: the parking lot can get crowded at times. It doesn’t stay that way for very long though.

And if you’ve read this far you probably already know there are classes for all ages and skill levels.

Fencing is a sport and an art form. It’s beautiful actually. Swordplay is the place to do it. Highly recommended.

And you will love Sam. You will. Sam’s the man.

A Little Bit Of Everything

My 11-year-old daughter has been a student at Swordplay LA for a year, both in person at the Burbank location (private lessons with Ryan, group lessons with Tyler and Laelia) and throughout quarantine on Zoom (twice a week private lessons with Ryan, Wednesday night group with Laelia), and truly loves it. With so many of her after-school activities getting cut away due to quarantine (Girl Scouts, farm club, etc.), being able to continue pursuing her passion for fencing has been wonderful but also has added structure to our weeks inside, giving her something to look forward to. Also, with PE options fairly limited with school starting, it is also excellent exercise (seriously, it wipes her our after every class) which she likes. Ryan has always been incredibly flexible in scheduling and always mixes up the lessons to make sure our kiddo is constantly improving on what she's learned in the past while adding new moves each time. Group lessons with Laelia then allows her to incorporate these into bouts with the other kiddos to work further on her form. Ryan and his team clearly love fencing and pass on that enthusiasm to their students but also individualize their instructions to get the best work out of the kids. My daughter has flourished at Swordplay and I can't recommend them highly enough.

Great Place. Owners are very professional and friendly. They kept social distancing and all other steps to make my first training safe and comfortable.
