Sycamore Canyon Falls reviews
6I love taking the family here for hiking. The view is breathtaking. I see a lot of people taking their dogs for walks/run, families with kids, older couples just out for a stroll, etc. There are a lot of trails to choose from. I recommend to park at wendy and Potrero. There's a map of all the trails there.
Easy to get to from fwy.
Easy to park.free!
Friendly hikers, bikers, and runners!
Went in mid-August. Not much shade at the beginning of the trail, i.e, not much on your return journey, so be mindful if you are sun sensitive!
Lots of overgrowth on the trail to the waterfall.
**Beware of Ticks!
My dog came out without a hitch. Unfortunately, I had one attached to the bottom of my neck/shoulder! Had to go to Urgent Care to get it removed because I couldn't reach that sucker!
Hope this helps!
Overall a pretty flat trail minus the bit of climbing on the rocks at the end… if you want to get to the highest water pool. Most of the pools are green w/ algae & surrounded by a bunch of poison oak. Lots of lil critters (pincher, bugs, scorpions, centipedes, frogs, snakes, etc) at night.
Lucked out to experience a replenished and full waterfall on a sunny clear day after a series of rainstorms swept Los Angeles - the landscape was flushed bright green and the California poppies were just peaking their heads out (March 2023). We parked at the Wendy Trailhead off of Portrero Road. The trails are very moderate and very do-able for families with younger kids. Some water crossings are needed to get to the waterfall but nothing too complicated using stepstones and branches. You also get phone reception. As there are many branching trail paths, we just looked up how to get to the waterfall using maps.
Absolutely gorgeous! Due to all the recent rains the streams flow with water and the waterfall has lots of water making for a beautiful sight! The trails are muddy in places and you will find poison oak along the trail, especially by the waterfall and streams. I suggest bringing a picnic lunch, sitting on a rock and enjoying the beautiful sounds of the waterfall.
