Sylvan Learning of San Jose - Westgate

My two boys (7 & 10yo) really like taking writing classes at Sylvan. The kids are great students but Sylvan gets them excited. The system Sylvan uses provides rewards and positive feedback for them in a way they enjoy and we can see the improvements in their writing. Writing is so dependent on the process that I’m glad we found a place where they can get consistent practice without the regular pressure of school grades.

Our son enjoys Sylvan thoroughly. The teachers are patient and know exactly how to nudge each student. Highly recommend them

My son really love coming here. He was 3 levels behind the grade reading level when he started, after three month in Sylvan, he was making great progress and his reading level reached grade level! We also add writing classes here too. I really appreciated tutoring help from Sylvan, big life saver

We started going to this location for help with math, but what we got from here has been more than just learning about the subject. The confidence that resulted in learning has been so wonderful. The team / staff have been helpful, supportive and flexible to our family.

We enrolled my son in Sylvan after my son skipped Kindergarten due to Covid and had not learned the fundamentals of reading before his school decided he should be enrolled in first grade. In a few months at Sylvan, my son went from not being able to read at all to reading almost independently and at grade level. Abhishek, the leader of the Westgate site was patient and kind, his tutors were great, and my son always looked forward to going (it helps that they are incentive based). It was exactly the experience we were looking for him in order to build a foundation of joy in learning. When we shared that my son was at Sylvan, his school teacher was overjoyed to hear that as she mentioned her own son had also participated in Sylvan and thrived after as well. We would highly recommend based on our experience!

Our daughter loves coming to the center to learn. Teachers are very friendly and welcoming. We noticed a difference after the first couple sessions her improvement in her learning. I would recommend Sylvan Learning center in SanJose Westgate, for other families seeking improvement in these child's education.

Within just two months, our child has really improved her reading! The pandemic set our child back last year and we are overjoyed at the progress that has been made. Our kid enjoys going and doesn’t complain about it and in fact has made friends. We see a huge difference in engagement compared with kumon. Sylvan has a fun reward/point system where students can choose prizes. They have fun riddles and theme days too. Really a nice healthy and fun environment to learn. The director there, Abishek, is very communicative and nice. He keeps me informed on my child’s progress and sees the importance of growing a child’s confidence too. We plan to stay with sylvan for help with other subjects too!

I like how sylvan has multiple subjects like english and math. I also like how sylvan helps other people with a question that you're not certain of.

Abhishek the director is amazing as well as the staff. The tutors consist of experienced teachers who are retired or are still working as teachers. Abhishek communicated with me very well how everything works at Sylvan. He went over my son's assessment with me and gave me piece of mind with his scores. Even when it came to the cost everything was explained well. The days/times my son would attend was worked out perfectly. My son has been there for 6 sessions and I already see an improvement and higher confidence in his learning. He is currently there for reading and is doing great. It saddens me we will be leaving due to us moving, but I recommend this Sylvan one hundred percent!

The teacher are very friendly and motivated. They make sure the child understand where they need help and guide them to improve it.

We've taken two of our children to Sylvan for extra help with reading comprehension, and have been very pleased with the fast results. After only six weeks in the program, we noticed a huge improvement as measured by test results, improved grades in school, and perhaps most important, confidence. The Sylvan method and teachers identify learning deficiencies, areas that were either not presented or not well understood, and work to fill in the gaps. The results are amazing! We took the recommendation of the Sylvan evaluator for number of hours per week and program length to achieve desired results, and would recommend doing the same.

The people at Sylvan are all very friendly, my son loves his tutors, the program has been very effective in improving his reading scores. The staff is well informed and are helpful in answering my questions and addressing our concerns.

My daughter is in 3rd grade. When she received her final report card from her 2nd grade year it was evident that she needed some extra support. She has shown great improvement in her writing abilities in just 3 months of tutoring.

My daughter has been coming here for more than a year. She had been struggling with comprehension and writing. Even though she is an avid reader. Working with Sylvan has allowed her to become far better at comprehension and applying to science and math. She has become so much more confident in her abilities. Our son was a reluctanct reader, rushed through sounding out words and guessed, and would skim text. His comprehension and confidence was very low. He would say phases like I told you I am a bad reader. In less than 15 weeks, he has gained a ton of confidence and is proud of what he can read. He is even starting to pick up books like comics to fun read. He never would have done that a few weeks ago. We are very happy with Sylvan and are excited for what is to come in our sons growth.
